Another great one from Night At The Palladium 1976.

I saw the Band play in Austin Texas circa 1975 with about four other big players, Steve Miller, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, etc. The Band blew the others out of the water.

I saw the Band on this tour in Charlottesville, Va. at University Hall. Maybe 200 people there, everybody dancing and cheering right in front of them like a house party. Great memory.

He's not even close to right. They were super is concert. They never screwed around like Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) who would take a flute solo riff that was supposed to be 10-15 seconds and make it 2 minutes and then stop and talk to the audience before resuming. They continually worked at making their songs better; like adding an extra musical line in Don't Do It to each stanza. More importantly, by doing the Night They Drove Old Dixie Down in a faster tempo. They were great musicians.

I have no problem believing this.

@SHAMROCK2982 I was reading the book , accross the great divide. Barney hits on a theme that the band never could master live preformances so in your opinion is this right? what was the live experience like?

They were basically a live band, they never did alot of overdubs in the studio. I assume they mean stage presence which, to be honest, doesn't matter with a band like this. I'd never go to one of their concerts to see Richard jump on his piano like Jerry lee Lewis, I'd go to listen to Richard sing his damn heart out.

I can hear organ on it (subtle in the mix, but I hear it in open spots), so it can't be Garth on sax. Must be the saxophonist in the horn section (I never know the horn players' names.)

Could be Richard, they usually turned him down in the mix and Garth is always loud and clear behind the organ.

Yes, but having seen them 27 times there were plenty of other great ones. Central Park summer of 1970. 2 shows. $2 each. Was about 30 feet from them.

yeah, the sax is definitely not garth. too bluesy, imo. garth was always more bachish in his approach.

Listen to Orange Box Blues and the 1983 lice version of Milk cow Boogie. Garth could play anything he wanted to.
