September Gurls was written by Big Star's lead singer Alex Chilton in 1974. Alex was also the lead singer of the band The Box Tops who had a big hit with The Letter when Alex was just 16. By the way, Alex was a December boy, born on December 28, 1950. Sadly, he died of a heart attack in 2010, aged 59.

When she sings "ooh when she makes love to me" she is singing and keeping with the original lyrics written by Alex Chilton and performed by his band Big Star in the 70's. Sure she had changed it up in earlier days, changing it to "when he makes love to me" then I suppose because she was making the interpretation to her gender preference. The thing is that what a person sings in a performance does not mandate ones sexual preference.

I love Big Star, but I think the Bangles, especially Michael's lead vocals, steal it and make it their own and make it better. Few bands can pull that off. Note, they did the same with Hazy Days of Winter. (Im trying to identify other examples. 1) Aretha Franklin - Respect (Otis Redding 2.) Jimmi Hendrix -All Along the Watcher (Dylan) 3) Manfred Mann - Blinded by the Light (Springsteen) 4) Beatles -Twist and Shout (Isley Brothers) 5)Eric Clapton - Cocaine (JJ Cale)

@@ullischuster1263 I think what you mean is not bands that are known, but bands that have international fame and a large following, selling lots of records etc. Also I guess what you mean by "guitar" as "heavy" or "hard " rock, which was previously done mainly by all male bands. Alles ist wohlauf!
@ullischuster12635 жыл бұрын
@@jeffwilliams789 yes, there are reasons, why some bands are known and others not. but of course this doesn't say anything about the quality!! the difference between fanny and the runaways might be comparable to the difference between (for example) deep purple and ac/dc. both are rockbands, but there is a difference in their music... your german is better than my english :-) ok

It's a song about a summer romance "Touched" is a euphemism. A teenage girl (or boy depending on the version) on summer vacation with their family become interested in a local teen. September is the end of summer so a "lets touch" attitude prevails. The other kid catches feelings and melody ensues.

In their.80s version they altered the lyrics from Big Star's 1974 original. Now she sings it with the original lyrics "I was ypur butch..." and "..when SHE makes love to me..." I guess maybe that's a statement of the times? Their 80s studio version was more layered with melodic guitar but this version is still awesome live. Forever such a naturally talented and naturally beautiful sweetheart of a band from an era that never needed auto-tune.

@DaveHayesMusic2 жыл бұрын
maybe because they were having fun?
@michaelcottle62702 жыл бұрын
"Unneccesary hyperactivity" - where? They're playing their instruments, rocking back & forth a little & hitting all the harmonies. If that's "hyperactive" I can't imagine what you'd have thought of the band when I first saw them on the UK leg of the "Different Light" tour. Pete Townsend style scissor kicks, running around the stage & putting on a fantastic show were the order of the day. This is comparatively sedate.

@michaelcottle6270 Жыл бұрын
@@1969rockers depends on the performer. I've seen people sit or stand on stage absolutely static with no audience interaction. If you're as good as Alan Holdsworth, you can get away with that. Early 80s Bangles were a garage band and when you're doing that, you need to pump up the audience and boy did they deliver. They were an electric live act - and I'm not just saying that because Debbie winked at me 😍
