I'm 68 yrs old, and I absolutely adore every one of these incredibly talented girls. Yes, they are still "hot" girls to me, their attraction comes thru not only their beauty, but especially their music. The sideways glance, the mastering of their instruments, and the incredible emotion they convey. I love you girls!!!!

Yes, comparisons between the personalities have also been made: John/Vicki = Quick wit, edgy song lyrics Paul/Susanna = Cute, popular, gift for melody George/Michael = Introverted, soulful, unique writing style Ringo/Debbi = fun loving, most down to earth

I think Susanna has always felt badly that certain members of the management team wanted to promote her as the sex kitten superstar and the others as just backing players. Needless to say the others were not happy about this and it contributed to the breakup of the band.

After a brief run with the all-girl Runaways in the mid-70's, Micki, er, Michael Steele, joined the Bangles in 1982 after original bassist Annette Zilinskas left. She brought an additional alto to the harmonies and solid bass playing throughout the hit-making years. It's come full circle; Annette is back and playing again.
@Cicilo19833 жыл бұрын
Such a shame that Michael left. The other three are awesome musicians and songwriters, but she brought something very different to the table. Her vocals, bass playing and songwriting were sorely missed on "Sweethearts of the Sun". She just slipped out of the band without any explanation to the fans, for which she certainly had her reasons, and was never heard of again, which is just heartbreaking...
@kencooke8139 Жыл бұрын
Yes it was strange. I think it would have been stressful to be in such a successful band, then break up for whatever the real reasons were...then make a comeback where music styles and the business had changed so much. I think it would've been hard to get their new music on mainstream radio too.
@jamiethornton6101 Жыл бұрын
She didn't really want to come back. She just got tired of everything and wanted to become a hermit. Annette (the original bass player) who came back is a fine bass player. But she isn't spectacular and she can't harmonize. Those four part harmonies is really what made the Bangles, have so much success. But hey, if that's what she wants to do, it's her life.
@kencooke8139 Жыл бұрын
@@jamiethornton6101 yes exactly. As she's said many times in interviews, she was already in a LOT of working bands before the Bangles, and she was over the whole Showbiz life by the late 80s. P.s. I agree with the above comment about the Sweetheart of The Sun album...some good songs but without M.S.'s input it lacks something.
@jamiethornton6101 Жыл бұрын
@@kencooke8139 Life is about what you want to do. I mean the only reason Annette left to begin with is she had her own band as lead singer (Blood on the Saddle) while playing bass in the Bangles. Both bands were being signed to a record deal. There was no way Annette could stay in both bands at that point. It just so happened while this was going on, Michael was Vicki Peterson's roommmate. So things work out for a reason. We were so fortunate things not only went the way they did, but the artist have to enjoy doing what they do. Micki has all kinds of chronic back and shoulder pain issues as well. If it's not fun anymore, it's time to stop doing it. So when the Bangles released their old stuff again on "Ladies and Gentlement the Bangles" in 2014, they asked Annette if she would come and play some songs. She accepted and one show after another the chemistry was so great, Sue just asked her if she would join them again for all shows. She had to learn all the songs and still does work in her long time band "Medicine". It just worked out so Sue, Vicki, and Debbi could keep playing. The Bangles are still a great band, but what Micki added to the table, put them over the top into "Super Group". Thankfully we still have all the concerts, shows, and CD's with them. Amazing band and story.

I was in the audience for one of the shows they were interviewed on in this clip! Was so lucky to see them in London when they reminded with Micki. I was a huge fan from the age of about 12 and loved them all bit was always so captivated by Michael's voice. Amazing talent. I had a bangles Web site so many years ago, when the Internet was not what it is now. About 1995 I think. I had loads of interviews I transcribed from tv, typed up on it and all sorts. It's too early for wayback to have sadly but a revamped version is partially archived. The Bangles will always be special by Michael especially so for me. No one sings like she does, incredible voice and how I wish we could hear something new from her. I shall dream!

Michael decided to leave again after the 2005 tour. After going through a couple, three bass players, original 1981-82 bassist Annette Zilinskas has rejoined the fold.
Maybe it's just me, but I love when the Bangles go acoustic and bring out those four part harmonies. And Susanna has always been a brunette, and I'm pretty sure that Debbi is a natural blonde. But Vicki and Michael have always been an enigma to me. To paraphrase Cyndi Lauper, I've never known their "true colors".
@Taz903 жыл бұрын
Michael Steele has, to my knowledge, always been a red-head. Vicki's hair was originally dark brown.
@ericfreeman57953 жыл бұрын
@@Taz90 Yeah, I really need to see the documentation on that. That Micki is a natural ginger I can buy, but Vicki's surrounded by a cloud of confusion. You see, Debbi is naturally blonde, so the probability is that her sister Vicki is also, but dyed her hair dark when she was younger. In early videos of the "Bangs" her hair looks too dark and straight (artificial). Or you may be right and she is a natural brunette and has since dyed her hair blonde (I didn't know my sister's natural hair color since she was 13). And even though Susanna has always maintained her natural color, it wasn't until she went solo that I realized that her hair was naturally straight, and all those curls and waves during the 80s was just a scam. But they're all forgiven because we love them.

@@PHill1960 She was born "Susan Nancy Thomas", but we could both agree that, along side Sandy West and Joan Jett, with whom she founded the Runaways, her name just didn't rock. Hence "Micki Steele", or the even more enigmatic "Michael Steele".

Obviously Susana Hoffs is why I liked this group at first. I was a horny 15 or 16 year old just drooling over her. Lol. As I got older and the internet came out, I was able to learn all about the band, how they started, who everybody is and I appreciate them as artists now, not some hot lead singer. Susana is still my woman I'd marry right this second but their music is incredible. A lot of their songs tell the story of parts of my life. If she knew what she wants is my favorite. I know a lot of women like that. If they new what they wanted, happy one second and crying the next. Just a legendary band, and Steele is my second favorite.

I grew up in the 80’s loved the Bangle. Had a crush on Susanna. “The most successful all-female rock band in music history”. I would agree. But they are soon going to be dethroned. By a trio of sisters from Mexico called THE WARNING. These girls are the future of rock/hard rock music. At the ages of 22,20 & 17 they are just getting started. The band has been together for about 8 years. They got the idea from playing the video game “Rock Band”. They already have 40+ songs recorded and you can’t find a bad song or a “just filler”song.
