The Bankstown Line - The Final Days Before Closure!

After over 120 years of service, the Bankstown Line is in it's final days of service before a 12 month closure to allow conversion to Sydney Metro services.
In this video today we go to the stations set to be closed in just a few days for over a year and take a look at the history of all the stations along the line

Great video Elliot. ✌️ Do you know if they’ll need to realign the tracks on the curved platforms (or extend the platforms at one end to create a straight alignment as they did at Sydenham)? Imagine it would be quite an engineering task at stations such as Marrickville.

There isnt much straightening I believe. The original plan was for a rebuilds of the curved Station platforms but the community wanted their Herritage and it would have taken longer to do the shutdown, so Gap fillers it is.

Why is the T3 conversion ending in Bankstown? Why not an interchange point like Liverpool?

Because the plan is for the line to continue in a new tunnel between Bankstown and Liverpool via the Bankstown Airport, with part or most of the Bankstown Airport land converted into a new minicity like Chatswood. This would give a journey time of 38-40 minutes from Liverpool to Central, much faster than the current 56-60 minutes, and take alot of the ridership away from the T2 Inner West corridor. The T6 corridor north of Bankstown is planned to potentially become part of a new Metro Line called the River Line from Kogarah to Parramatta via Bankstown.
