I actually went to a game store recently where I played some commander while I waited for 5 hours for my friend to go on his crazy splurge of magic stuff. I played this guy who played Primeval Titan, I was like "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Isn't that-" and RIGHT away, he was like "IT'S NOT BANNED IF YOU'RE NOT USING DEADEYE NAVIGATOR BECAUSE THOSE SHITHEADS WHO DON'T EVEN WORK FOR WOTC ONLY BAN THE CARDS THEY DON'T LIKE PLAYING WITH THIS DECK'S COMMANDER USED TO BE ROFELLOS" and just... went on this very empassioned rant. Then he proceeded to steamroll me and this other guy who was literally just playing the Nahiri Precon with approximatley 87 mana he managed to feed into Omnath Locus of Mana and just... I never want to play Commander at the LGSes that are near me because they attract Tryhards who have been playing since '93 or that just feel threatened that there's a fresh face around and feel the need to CRUSH them. Literally my first experience playing Commander in a LGS was sitting down with a guy who JUST bought a precon and wanted to learn commander... and someone brought Leovold to the table... and I really didn't know what I was getting myself into? I felt bad because I was playing a somewhat tuned atraxa deck geared towards infect, and... little did I know. Little did I know. So... this post goes out to the folks on the rules committee. You rock.

Thats kinda bs and honestly i understand why you didnt try to enforce the banning of primetime bc of it should have been a casual game (given the precon and new player) but i feel if you just say "nah dude its banned bc its too good, get over it and take it out" then at worse the dude picks up his things and doesnt play with you. And i dont really think ALL the players at your lcses are wanting to stomp you it just feels that way bc of them playing for so long so they know more about the game which puts the favor in the game to them.

That guy sucks... there are a couple of cards on the top of my head I would ban in an instant... prime time is broken as hell and deserves his banned status. Also, was the game LGS sanctioned or just people waiting around. If so, putting someone using a precon shouldn’t be put into a game with someone using banned cards and crying because he wants to win. Craterhoof, Cyclonic Rict and Sorin Markov all deserve to be banned in my eyes, but none are as broken as Prime Time, Omnath and Rafellos. Those three deserve the axe

Losing is a learning experience, but being destroyed by banned cards during your first game is very different from other players showing you your interactions and losing to someone who was helping. But everyone I’ve ever seen at an LGS has been nice. I was doing the RIX prerelease and barely won both games against a total stranger. We had time left, played another round and he won by an inch. Don’t remember his name, his face but I remember the games. Getting a lucky Tetzimoc was the only reason I won that event. Sorry for the pointless rant, but LGS’s are good for playing

In the very brief mention of Iona, I think that you missed an important point. Every deck ever built has to be able to pass the "Iona Test". Basically, if your deck cannot play through or remove a resolved Iona naming any colour, you need to rethink how you've built your deck. This is the exact definition of "format warping" and if there is any better reason to ban a card, I dont know it. Just my 2 cents.

plattbonnay I think Iona is by far the card we hear the most about from the community as far as "should be banned" so you're certainly not alone. I can say that I would not be angry in the slightest if they did ban her. Not sure that's going to happen though. I mean it's not like she's new, she's been around for a long time and is still unbanned so what would be the catalyst to ban her now?

Im not sure what the catalyst would be, but I definitely think she needs to go. The first deck I ever built was a mono black Geth deck (which was all over the place, but thats the same for pretty much anyones first deck), and there were a few games where someone dropped an Iona on me and nothing was worse than that. One of the reasons that the tuck rule was changed was because it made people "feel bad", and I dont think that there is any card legal in the format that brings about more "feel bad" than Iona.

Also, I think that Iona remaining legal is just another example of the RC's lack of consistency in their reasoning for bannings. I have played in some really competitive playgroups, and if there is one thing that I learned from those experiences, its that the RC is all over the place. Hermit Druid is another huge example of a card that needs to be banned, but Sheldon claims that the social contract keeps it in check, and this is the same argument used for Iona remaining legal. Basically...the social contract is not a good enough reason for a degenerate AND unfun card like Iona to remain legal.

Fun fact, the most powerful card which was almost printed is either the original wording of Time Walk (Your opponent loses their next turn) or the original design of Psychatog, which at one point exiled cards from your deck for no mana to pump the 'tog.

You can actually turn 1 blightsteel colossus using tinker. Play Seat of the Synod, Mox Opal, and tap Synod for Sol ring. This activates Metalcraft, which you can then use to pay for the third (and colored) mana of Tinker, sacrificing whatever you wish at that point.

I used to reanimate Emrakul quite consistently with my legacy deck! I didn't care too much about not getting the extra turn... just getting him out turn 1 was good enough for me! And yes, he can easily be reanimated by several cards that utilize the stack to put him on the field before his shuffle ability resolves... and then get your spells shuffled back in automatically to reuse! The best enabler is Leyline of Anticipation to turn 1 our Eldrazi buddy right in!

I played during Erayo, Braids and the 2nd attempt at Rofellos. This flipped more than enough times on Turn 2, possibly Turn 1 as it counts itself. It is 0cmc moxen, ornothopter, etc then Erayo. GG, thanks for playing I shut off all your Rampant Growth and Mana Rocks. Now I just will assemble the final lock with Forbid, Arcane Lab, etc. Rofellos was a Stax/Land Destruction deck. If you have never seen Plow Under Turn 2/3 and then land a Smokestack... It was basically Green Braids Black Braid and Erayo were banned because it wasn't just unfun. It was reliably oppressive.

I think prophet of kruphix is a great gem that people seem to overlook for whatever reason, but there are a lot of things that make it vulnerable for the massive effect it is giving. It is multicolored, it does cost 5 mana, and it only has 3 toughness. Maybe it just has too much value, but cards like Iona, which completely shut down mono colored strategies should be considered first before the prophet when adding cards to the banlist.

Nahh, in most higher lvl competition Iona is nothing. And if someone is playing a mono colored deck at that lvl they are gonna have a crazy fast win condition before you get Iona out. Prophet of Kruphix is broken. All those vulnerabilities can be easily covered because of the colors Prophet of Kruphix is in ie: counter spells, +1/+1 counters so many things.

Gifts is banned for being a "damned if I do/don't" card. People would search up a 2 card infinite combo and 2 ways to pull the piece out of the graveyard or something that essentially acts as the combo piece or both. For example: Kikki Jikki, Pensermite, Deciver Exart, and any generic reanimation spell. That way, no matter what you picked, you always got your infinite combo and then you won. (Pardon my spelling issues)

Timetwister is legal in EDH, it's one of the Power 9. Metalworker is unbanned because haste sources are usualy too bad, and Metalworker has a tap ability. It needs to live back to your turn. Tooth and Nail also falls over to any single target removal; Kiki-Pestermite or Mike+Trike does nothing if you have a Swords to Plowshare or something like that. Real ban worthy cards are Prophet of Kruphix and Necropotence.

No, problem with Braids is turn one play a swamp then play dark ritual, use one mana from dark ritual to cast sol ring and then boom get Braids down. People can get one land down then they have to sacrifice it at the beginning of the next upkeep.

Those restarts the game cards are banned because they do just that. Commander can have terribly long games... I've had games go nearly an hour in and before this was banned it would get cast and no matter who was winning, the game was basically reset. It takes a game that is already long and adds a ton more time to it. It makes commander unpleasant.

We have a guy who insists on using library of Alexandria in his mono blue deck and after a few games we all came the the conclusion that it really isn't that powerful

But why is Sylvan Primordial banned but Terastodon isn't? Is it just because forests are better than elephants?
