Thank you!

This is the first track from ELP's first album 'Emerson, Lake, & Palmer'. And it wasn't until 1973 when I initially heard them on Radio 1's 'Sequence' show on a Friday or Saturday night. The Barbarian was the very first track I heard and I knew it was them before it was even announced! I was hooked from then on. I've still got that BBC Radio 1 (mono) recording today somewhere. This is a great tribute to them - thanks for your effort and work that went into this!

Thanks - Yes, even though only the keyboardist is shown in this video there are others that contribute to all our songs. In this ever evolving age of A.I. It's hard to know who's doing what. We may try to include more of the others in future endeavors when possible. 😃

Thanks for the kind words. The original Bartok piece can be found here:musopen.org/music/4109-allegro-barbaro-sz49/ KE took a good part of the middle piano bit right from the original. So that's really the best place to start. The rest was figured out by watching the various YT vids of ELP playing it. There's a couple good vids that show his left hand. It's an impossible piece to play and it took months to finally (by sheer luck) get a piano take that didn't totally suck at one point or another. We're pretty sure I could never play it again. And yet KE seems to play it almost effortlessly. I have more respect than ever now.

@@SunlendingSky Thanks for the link. One of my classmates in college played the Bartok, but I haven't played it, so this will be a good nudge to do that. You did a great job with this. Thanks again.

So, how long did it take you to play this? I’m assuming you read music? Did you just listen and go, “I can play this”? Just curious excellent job! I’ve been an ELP fan since the early ‘80s.
@SunlendingSky8 ай бұрын
It took about 3 months to learn the Bartok piece - I put a link to the music in the description It took several more weeks to figure out what K.E. was doing plus putting together the rest of the music (recording, mixing -the gong etc) I did listen and said "I can play this". Turned out to be way harder than we expected.
@AmaNotaGogo Жыл бұрын
Very well done, although a few more barbarians could have been abused - just for the effect you know. Kieth will live in my mind.
@ledorzejean-etienne3747 Жыл бұрын
Superb! And we can also clearly hear drum works by palmer. Drums were mixed so low and mudly in the cd version, such a shame. Even in the 2001 remaster it doesn't sound clear at all, huge difference compared to your video
@SunlendingSky Жыл бұрын
That's one of the things about re-doing these older songs- Because recording quality is so much better now, even when recreating the original arrangement, it can sound fresh. Palmer never took the easy route and recreating his parts was as rewarding as it was laborious.
@ledorzejean-etienne3747 Жыл бұрын
@@SunlendingSky you also played his parts???
@SunlendingSky Жыл бұрын
@@ledorzejean-etienne3747 Yes we did - bass , drums, and keyboards - all recreated using various methods like electronic drum kits or pads or other techniques.
@EastmanD11 ай бұрын
Soooo...is he playing while the recorded version is playing ???
@SunlendingSky11 ай бұрын
Interestingly, it's way more complicated than that. Drums, Bass, Keys (and gong) were all recorded by different people at different times.(and from different locations) Video was taken of several takes of the Organ and Piano bits while listening back to our drummer and bass players tracks. However, running both video and Multi-track recording simultaneously is a bit of a nightmare. Ultimately the best video take and best audio recording are rarely the same. 😵💫

sadly- none exists. - Drums and bass were mostly created by a combination of playing, editing, and programming by various contributors (known collectively as Cy and Borg) But we'll see perhaps on future endeavors.
