Love This Video! I've been waiting for this one. I knew the suffix codes meant something but I never researched it. The 305 and the 454 have the last 8 of the VIN from the donor vehicle so you can tell the year and production plant. Usually only one type of vehicle is made in a particular plant each year, but it is a longer process. Great stuff! I'm a very happy subscriber!

@@SquarebodyStuff yes, this one is a mere 120 horsepowers too, at least on paper. Now comes the investigation though, first to find out what year the engine is, so i know what i have, then the investigation will continue as the intake is an aftermarket Edelbrock one, so as the 4barrel carb, and there is also a proper tubed exhaust manifold on it, and i'm wondering if the internals or the heads are stock or not, i mean it goes like crazy, but if something breaks then i'm pretty much EFFed 😅

Hi thanks for the video I have found some #s for my engine although some sites seem to mix up the vin with the engine code it's a 454 . The engine code front left head is C8F192698 The vin is right above the timing cover and is T0519TST I think I'm reading these backwards and the 192698 is the Vin to the vehicle ?

I commented above... I found same sets of numbers as you did. Engine is in truck at junkyard, so not able to see back of engine to read casting number... too close to firewall and valve cover edge sticks out. Don't think it's the stock engine. I look up them numbers and still no answers. Frustrating!!
@TheThirdWheel618 Жыл бұрын
@@antilaw9911 I pretty much found what needed the left side front head was the vin # that should match the numbers on the vin on the truck at least most of them . It was a truck engine from 1978 Towanda made May 17th In a C20/30 it had the 2 plugs above the oil filter thinking that means oil cooler and 4 bolt main . Actually had a treat when I took the valve covers off the heads are from 1991 up gen 5 heads oval port with big intake valves it's 180 psi compression.

I'm definitely glad to have found a square body expert. I'm an old worn out construction worker trying to transition into restoring old cars. Especially the old cars I owned as a young man in the 80s. Hopefully you can help me out with a new project/daily driver. It's a 1977 C20. I'm trying to determine if it's the original engine, which I am in doubt of. The casting# is 3870010, but I can't find the suffix numbers. I don't know if 1977 C20 came with TH350, but I'm almost certain that is what's behind the engine.
@SquarebodyStuff4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, not sure I'd call myself an expert, lol. Without the suffix code it will be hard to know for sure. Look at the date code on the block and see if it's dated around the same time or before as the truck is. Usually 3/4 tons would have a th400, but any of them was a possibility. Good luck on the resto of it.

The the suffix code I got off above the timing cover is t0118fcj. If you go off the casting number it comes up as a 90-91 454 4 bolt short deck, but the date code the way it is wouldn't that mean 79? And I can't find the suffix code anywhere fcj. Any help would be much appreciated!

Casting date is L=December , 17 is the day, 9 should be the year of 1989. The casting number was used from 90 -91. So that would be correct for a December casting. The fcj suffix also comes back as a 1990 tbi 454, 230hp, manual trans

G’day. Is anyone able to help with my engine in my ‘74 Stingray? It’s a 350 small block crate. Alloy heads. 1.5 roller rockers. Angled plugs. Polished alloy intake and carby. MSD ignition system..(dizzy, coil and box behind passenger seat in cargo bucket). Block castings....GM5.7 LG. 5GT(?I.).......F099.......14093638......Front pad= V (post ‘67 Flint, MI) 0621 ZZZ. I have no idea if it’s a 2 or 4 bolt as I’ve never had the sump off. You’re probably thinking “Well, you’ve already described it, what do you want to know!?” Well, it’s the ZZZ. I can’t find anything on it anywhere and it’s driving me nuts. The guy I bought it off, he imported it from Torrance, CA, couldn’t tell me much. Any info appreciated.

I have the same engine with the same casting numbers of 14093638 on right rear passenger side bell housing flange, and on the left rear driver side it has GM 5.7 L G and below that it has the letters, SGI, and on the top center of bellhousing flange it has B122, I'm thinking the B122 is the manufacturing date of Feb 12, 1982. The heads on this engine have the casting number 14102183, these heads along with two other heads with the casting numbers of 14101083 and 14102183 are all the same type of heads, and from my research, these heads are the cast iron version heads of the L98 aluminum heads used in the Corvette and Z28, early to mid eighties if my memory serves me well. But I've yet to figure out what year the engine block was manufactured and if it has the 4 bolt or 2 bolt mains. This is suppose to be a rebuilt engine with 9.6:1 forged pistons, but I don't know what cam it has, it has the 87 to 95 intake with TBI on the engine, and it probably doesn't have more than 10,000 miles on it, I bought a 88 Chevrolet Suburban for $100 about five years ago just for the 700R4 transmission, and this engine was in it, the guy said the reason he parked it was because the rats had eat all the wiring up under the hood and under the dash, (the rats stripped every wire under dash and hood), and the guy wanted it off his property, so five years later I've decided I'm gonna beef this engine up to put in my 88 GMC Sierra SLE K1500 4X4 with a 700R4 and 33 in tires, but I wanna know more about this engine so that I'll know what I'm dealing with for ordering parts, especially for a good low to midrange Xtreme Energy Comp Cam # cl12-238-2 and a few other goodies, I'm shooting for at least 350 to 400 ponies and 450 to 475 lb ft of torque that'll set the ole, old lady back in the seat. I'm a retired certified mechanic, and with some of this new modern technology, it's been a challenge that I really enjoy, along with building a mild hotrod engine, something I haven't done in over 25 years. A big thank you to the guy that made this video.

@ Iam Noone, I don't know where you got the F099 from, but if it was off of the bellhousing flange, that'll be the manufacturing date of the engine block for which would be, June 09, 1989, but until I go to the mortec website to compare my engine block casting numbers to what they have listed, I won't be able to help you or myself for finding out what we really have, I'm just as interested as you are to find out what we really have. I will pull my oil pan and timing cover off for inspection purposes, and I'll definitely be replacing the garbage factory TBI intake with an aluminum performance intake, whether it's a fuel injection or carburetor, but I haven't decided if I'm gonna go fuel injection or carburetor, for now I'm leaning toward fuel injection, until I do further research, I think the camshaft I'm wanting to use may prevent me from going with fuel injection, so I'm gonna research my options for a compatible TBI computer controlled camshaft first before making any final decisions.

GM absolutely stupid! My mopars stamped on every block what cubic in displacement 440-318-340 etc.. so im in junkyard found this 1989 chevy pickup with big block. Somebody painted 454 on air cleaner cover with paint. But thar means nothing. I took small wire brush and cleaned passenger front block below the head, and just above timing cover. Suffix below head (C9F 351 141). And above timing cover ( T1020TRR). Can't find a damn thing to tell me what engine size is. The engines in the truck and I got Upton 2 tires with flashlight, but not able to see block casting number. Nice original untouched motor I can pull and rebuild. It turns over. Just want to verify engine size. May not be stock engine truck came from factory. HELP!! 👍

If its a big block, Suffix TRR is a 79 454, 205 hp, auto Trans, truck.

Unfortunately I can't find anything with is info. Are these numbers for two separate blocks? Casting numbers and casting dates would help.

@@SquarebodyStuff theses 2 numbers are from the front of the block passenger side the motor change was done on this car about 85 I was told from the deceased owner it was a 350 4 bolt main I will get the number on the back of the motor thanks
@SquarebodyStuff2 жыл бұрын
That would help make for sure what it is. Or if you can make out the letter in-between the T and B would help too.
