I have 1 question: What is the purpose of applying normal distribution, gamma distribution to actual sales value?

I am getting confused about the data source that a demand planner will get to create the demand plan, in my opinion some of the sources are sales forecast, promotions, new products, trend, casual and do not get data from the Financial plan, the supply chain plan. , right?

Hello friends, I have 2 questions: 1/ Why should we make a demand plan for the product family instead of each SKU?, what are the benefits?. 2/ How will product family be understood?. Thank you. Note: My company has 200 SKUs belonging to 3 brands.

Product Family is nothing but set of SKUs with same attributes and thus the demand pattern would remain the same for them. Many a times there demand is dependent on each other, directly or inversely. We do the forecasting at Family level, because it is always easy and more accurate to forecast at aggregated level than at granular level.

Dear Friends, I understand that demand plan is the supply chain department's forecast based on sales history and market sensitivity, and it is used to counter the sale forecast from sales department, right ?.

In my opinion and what we are seeing more and more no it is not that limiting. Over 50% of demand planning functions now are outside of supply chain. The scope has always included but is growing towards a more comprehensive business forecasting now as well. With companies working towards one number attitude and consolidating resources and processes we are seeing demand planning being more than a supply chain forecast but also the same plans translated into financial forecast, product forecast, and other insights.
