The basics of putting

There are so many different ways to putt but I guess there are some Basics in terms of grip, ballposition and adressposition which can certainly help you to get a better stroke done.
I am explaining neutral positions, so of course there can be different handpositions like cross-handed, what I like doing too.

Most of what you say is true. And you are right, clubface is king. But so is keeping that clubface PERPENDICULAR to the SINGLE PLANE THAT THE TILTED SHAFT IS MOVING ON. This is what brings "the king" back to square at impact every time. People see arc rotation relative to the target and unknowingly tweak it thus destroying PERPENDICULARITY to the tilted shaft swing plane. And as you correctly point out most of the rotation is at the impact to follow-through positions. They do not go under but rather around thus destroying their constancy. Some coaches recommend practicing with a long putter because with the left arm going at the hole it is easy to LOCK OUT the CC rotation through the ball. An actual touring pro showed me that. He practices with a long putter one hour a day. He is getting rid of rotation on "the king". Tiger's right hand only drill does the same thing plus it introduces a nice release. A free floating club has little propensity to twist and removes built up timing issues. You START OUT making 6 foot putts the next day when you resume practicing.

I agree, if we use our “normal” grip - which is designed to help a much bigger arc there could always be a slight pull! I have a toe down putter. I thought it weird when I had a little arc that the putt was straighter. But I still fought to keep the straight back straight through stroke because I thought it was correct. I have never seen this explained in all of the putting instruction I’ve watched! Thanks for this basic but important putting instruction!

There is always an arc in putting as we never stand 90 degrees bent over the ball. For me it feels more arc once I am more upright and if I am more bent over, it feels a bit straighter. Just try what works best for you!

With the eye over the ball how come you don’t use the dominant eye?

The arc of the putter head only appears on the ground as an illusion when in fact the arc is on the Face of the plane. All swings are three dimensional including that of the putter. The putter works on the incline so shaft control imperative. Keeping the shaft on plane is imperative. Another good video Thanks.

I think its a bit to easy. Grip it like you feel like and your wrists still can be involved for a little bit. Not much, but if the tension is too high, there is no touch!

Actually a mirror is super good. My Puttingcoach Robert Hamster developed a really good one. Check it out on www.golfhamster.de Other than that, carry plenty tees in your Golfbag, set drills around the whole etc. I ll make a special video about it... Filming next week!

Which of your eyes is your dominent eye? For me, mine is my right eye and my putting improved when I moved the ball back to under my right eye. I am a left-handed person that plays golf right-handed so I am prob weird!

Not weird at all - funny wise I have a few students of your kind. Its just important to ask important questions when you are putting or swinging the club like with which eye or arm you are managing certain movements.... My eye is the right eye as well...
