Agreed, it's a very understated but meaningful moment between Andy and Allison. She's constantly ignored by her parents, while his, especially his dad, never stop paying attention to him, so they've connected on a deep, emotional level.
@Ayse-x8d3u Жыл бұрын
In one of my head-canons he grows up to be a counselor. KIds ussually think they deserve the treatment they get. It's easy to imagine that an ignored child would expect their issues of being ignopred being because they are unworthy of attention, and if they shared that, would probably expect that issue is unworthy of attention, and should be ignored aswell. She pushes him away when he is trying to give the real her attention. He respects her request and starts to leave. She's in control, and she chooses to share, when he does. It's obvious he's leaving because he cares. He doesn't ignore her request. Allison is torn because part of her wants to be seen, and part of her needs to test that people won't ignore her. She's lived in the self-fulfilling propfecy of it. That's what people do. Andy caring, and seing it as a problem that she is ignored would have been a very powerful moment. She also see's through his image, and doesn't care about it. Basically, they both break eachothers cycles by caring about eachotyher behind the masks that everyone else accepts them for, but leave them feeling dead inside. It's a beautiful story, and I think there is a reason this movie has stood the test of time. These characters were all real people, forved out of their comfort zone, and put together, interacting in very real, messy, and honest ways. I think that's why TBC ias honest and imprfect, and I think that's why it makes us feel so much. Later we learned how to construct film formulas that make us feel, but keep us in our comfort zone.

So many talk about Alison having a “makeover”, it wasn’t about being made over, it was her shedding some layers so to speak (hair out of her face, the deep black eyeliner, the bulky coat and sweater off) so everyone (but especially Andy) could see HER and not what she hid under. Even Ally Sheedy has spoken in the past about it being her idea to not put so much more makeup on Allison but taking it off.

Getting her to open up, really wanting to know why she felt so reserved and alone. And by the end of the day, when he saw the real her underneath all the black, he was attracted to her. And I don't entirely mean when Claire did her up, but when Allison wasn't afraid to come out of her shell and tell the group things about her. Especially Andy. ❤ I ship both pairs, but in the end, I'd say I ship A&A a bit more. ❤️

I've seen a lot of people saying how they think the makeover was either too much, or just unnecessary, but I honestly think it was perfect. It wasn't to change her, or cover up who she is; it was to show the real her, and allow her to open up and feel good about herself. She wore all of the dark clothing and makeup because she felt invisible, and she didn't really want to be noticed. But by the end of the movie, after having confided in people (especially Andy) who can understand and relate to her, she was more comfortable with herself, which is what I believe that represents. And I also think that Andy liked her before the makeover, as well. He payed quite a bit of attention to her throughout the film, and obviously cared enough to listen to her and even defend her. To me, the makeover just made him like her more than he already did, because he got to see more of the real her, that was underneath the surface. And I just absolutely adore the way he looks at her when they're walking down the hall, the way they hold hands, the fact that he gives her his jacket, how he holds onto it as she pulls away, like he doesn't want her to go, and especially the way he stares at her even as they're both driving away, as if he's trying to memorize every detail of her. They're just so perfect for each other in my opinion :')

I think showing you don't have to find someone because all your friends do is a pretty good message. Sometimes things that matter to you can take a long time to come about, and sometimes it's more important to learn to love YOU before sharing yourself with someone else.
