Scarecrow: Already a psychiatrist. Genuinely, from the bottom of his heart, feels like he is the good guy. Starts as a moral but somewhat anxious person with ambition, ends as a controlling narcissist who thinks it’s his way or no way. Initially ambitious, with inspiration from Batman. He feels that Batman has become too forgiving following the ending of The Batman and criminals have started to notice (perhaps in an early scene, a teenage JasonTodd is let off despite attempting to steel the Batmobiles wheels). Crane feels crime is best controlled when there is a hard-line, and when fear is implemented. By the end, Batman will come to realise there is a balance between maintaining hope and utilising fear. The grounded twist: Crane is on a one-man mission to save gotham. 1) Initially, he wants to study criminal minds to reverse engine their origins to help provide the detectives info to catch killers (similar to mindhunter on Netflix). Because of this, he has a good reputation within gotham. 2) Then he slowly turns to the morally grey area: He tries to relieve the pressure of gotham prisons by labelling sane criminals insane, so that in total more criminals are locked up in Arkham, rather than being released due to cell shortages. He despises that people are getting light sentences/let-off due to low prisoner capacities. 3) When he realises this is not enough, and that the legal system is making exceptions to horrendous crimes just because gotham doesn’t have enough space for prisoners, he encourages inmates to try out his new drug, a modified version of drops. He first provides these drugs to sane inmates to make them permanently insane so they can be shifted to Arkham, however he notices that it is so potent and fear inducing that they murder each other within prison which frees up more space (and/or get shots themselves by security). He does the same in Arkham. This sense of control is addicting to Crane. 4) One day, coming home from work he gets jumped by a group of muggers, they see that Crane has some of his modified drops on him. They decide to take the drugs. This gives him a brainwave in the moment. He dawns the persona scarecrow to sell drugs to the criminals of gotham. He understands that in doing so there will be short term pain, in that innocent civilians will be harmed as a result of his fear toxin, but in the long run, the criminals dealing and taking these drugs will metaphorically cannibalise themselves. Crane feels that irradiating criminals today will create a better tomorrow. He doesn’t care that innocent people will be harmed in the process. From the GCPD’s perspective, Crane is an ally, helping the detectives find criminals early. From Batmans perspective, he is suspicious in the recent uptick of so-called insane inmates, and then the increased homicides within prison walls, which the law enforcement seem to be hiding. Perhaps Harvey Dent know the truth but decides to keep quiet about it because he wants good numbers for his next poll. In the climax, Crane goes too far Arkham is released into the city, after a 3rd act battle a large chunk of inmates are returned, with the exception if a certain few including the joker… Ultimately, this movie will force the viewer to decide the importance of: 1) The value of a criminals life and whether redemption should be an option. 2) Whether or not fear is good or bad, and if Batman should revert back to his more grizzly ways. 3) Whether or not the ends (?crime free gotham) justify the means (collateral damage within the city).

I'm afraid grounding Mr. Freeze by not giving him the need of a suit would take away an interesting character trait, as by giving an already cool villain such a handicap actually gives him further depth I think. Also his condition and wearing the suit translates so beautifully into a visual metaphor as the isolation of heartbreak and sorrow becomes like an eternal cold prison that keeps him from ever feeling the warmth and joy of the world again. Love your videos boba! Also I hope we'll get to hear your view on the Ventriloquist or Killer Moth in a future part of this series:)

Plus on an aesthetic choice you could make her costume and hair very much plant like. Think the Long Halloween, in that Poison Ivy had twigs and vines for her hair. So maybe add that to the design. Plus I’ve seen dresses in real life for that have a flower/plant theme.

what's actually quite wild is that scientists recently (in this last month) have come out and said that Cryogenics/suspended animation will be possible within 10-15 years (even if it will only be in it's fledgling stages). So the possibility of Victor Freeze putting his wife in stasis is actually no longer just a fantastical element as it could potentially be real in a few years

A cool idea I think would be for Mr Freeze to wear his traditional suit to protect him from the cold instead of keeping him cold. That way if he uses any freezing weapons the suit would protect him.
@JaydenLockton6 ай бұрын
That’s exactly what I have been thinking! It would be such a cool twist on a character like Freeze. My pitch was that throughout the film, Batman does his investigations that lead him toward the murderer (Freeze), and then he does ultimately find out that he is trying to save his wife Nora. But then they could have another twist where Freeze reveals that she had died in her sleep from her sickness and Mr Freeze is actually going after everyone who wronged him. Also this would all be happening in winter where the water is frozen and snowing. And given how in this version of the character where the cold will kill him, he is risking his life every day when he goes out in his suit and kills the people he hates (including Boil). This would be an emphasis on how after she died, Victor really has nothing left to loose so that’s why he is doing all this and endangering himself in the process ❄️

I feel like a more "grounded version of Fries's gun would be some sort of blaster connected to the "fuel tanks" on his back where it just shoots streams of straight up liquid nitrogen (maybe chemicaly altered in some way idk) but it just has the realistic effects of actual liquid nitrogen coming in contact with your skin (or maybe even more intense effects if the formula is chemicaly enhanced)

Wow, this was a stellar video. Love the new title card and the opening animation. All of the details, including font choice, are perfect. Did you animate it yourself? If so, great job! In any case, the intro to this series looks really professional and amazing. I really liked what you said about how Reeves needs to find a way to keep the movies from feeling too similar. Christopher Nolan talked about in an interview about how he made each movie in a different genre. Batman Begins was a hero’s journey, The Dark Knight was a crime drama, and The Dark Knight Rises was a war movie. I don’t think Reeves will change genres like that. I think he will stick to the same genre for all three movies - the detective genre. So his challenge will be keeping the essential detective elements while making the investigations feel distinct. Anyway, great deep dive into a single subject. I really appreciate your methodical approach - that’s the great storytelling instincts I was talking about a few livestreams ago. You definitely think like a writer. Keep up the great work!

I was just thinking about this series the other day, so happy to see the notification! I definitely agree that taking Nora out of Freeze's story almost defeats his entire purpose-without her all sympathy for his character just disappears. As you said, I think Freeze would be a great narrative opportunity for Reeves' Batman to see crime isn't entirely black and white. I also think it would be really interesting if in the climax instead of a huge final fight, Batinson instead just talks to Freeze and appeals to his humanity, maybe even makes a deal that Waynetech can support research for his wife if he surrenders peacefully or something-and through this Batman learns not every enemy can be taken down with just brute strength or wits but also with sympathy. (I've always found Batman's sympathy towards his rogues to be one his most fascinating qualities and Reeves could definitely take advantage of this if he wanted to)
@tonygoodwinjr9293Ай бұрын
Nora cannot be dead in an adaptation because it would take away that aspect of hope in Freeze that makes his story so endearing. If she is in fact dead & not in cryo, that would put Freeze on just a destructive path of grief or vengeance & that's not the key aspect of him that makes his story so relatable. Its that there might be some middle ground with him. He's an anti-villain in much of the sense. They're still his goals & he doesn't mind hurting anyone to get them

Ideas: -Ivy’s a botanist (credit to @firstlast) and her garden has a key component to venom or fear toxin -if venom use his emergency use of it in the first movie to slowly lead to addiction (adaptation of comic storyline) and have bane be the villain. -Manbat could be a fear toxin vision, nightmares have no limits - make the whole movie about drug problems. Hatter could start as a small time dealer

What I think would be most interesting is having Mr Freeze NOT be a killer, at least that isn't his main goal. Picture this: Victor is working on a cure for his wife in order to put her disease (likely a form of cancer) into stasis long enough for him to develop a cure. Boyle finds Victor has been embezzling funds from GothCorp and confronts him in his lab. Talking turns to arguing, arguing turns to fighting and then BOOM! The flood from the first film hits the lab. Boyle escapes but all of Victor's research is washed away and he is covered in freezing chemicals that permanently disfigure him. Furthermore, Nora is knocked out by the flood and enters a coma, sending Victor off the deep edge. While she's in the hospital, Victor takes what little he has left to fashion a suped up liquid nitrogen gun and a cold resistance suit from Gothcorp and begins robbing pharmaceutical companies and labs in order to get materials. He also kidnaps Boyle and his associates and forces them to help with the threat of violence. The film revolves around Batman following his trail to find Boyle before Victor does something rash. Penguin could also be involved with possibly conning Victor and using him as his own personal fetch-boy, but that's another story.

Keep the idea of “Batman, The World’s Greatest Detective” at the heart of your theories and I bet you’ll get as close as possible to Reeve’s mindset. Batman won’t epically battle Freeze or Poison Ivy or Two-Face or Mad Hatter in the streets of this Gotham. He will sleuth and stalk and draw them out from the darkness. And how do you track and catch a sadistic killer who is leaving behind a trail of victims whose frozen bodies survive in agony through some twisted homemade cryogenic cocktail? Batman will soon realize that the killer isn’t torturing his victims, he’s trying to keep them alive. And he loves them…

It’s an incomplete idea but I feel like it would be interesting to see Mr freeze used as moral opposition to a more distressed Batman. After the events of the first movie, Batman saying that the thing he fears most is ever loosing someone close to him again, I think that Matt could play with this idea as maybe Alfred comes down with a life threatening disease without a cure. this frightens Bruce to the point where he will poor all of his resources and almost become obsessive of saving him. Bruce could research methods for “helping” Alfred behind his back and this could provide some interesting moral grey of keeping someone alive that maybe would rather pass naturally. This could play into Bruce’s selfishness that we saw in the first movie with him using Salina as a tool to get information. Bruce could eventually find and reach out to a doctor who specializes in cryogenic freezing who is also loosing his funding from Gotham and has some resentment. There could be multiple ways of playing out the rest of the story. 1. Freeze could gain funding from Bruce and betray him, using the money to turn against Gotham somehow, and leaving Alfred to die and Batman to become personally attached to stopping freeze because of that or 2. Freeze could refuse to treat Alfred because it’s against his ethics to freeze someone who doesn’t want to be. This could make Bruce angered and scared like we saw him in the last movie and cause him to lash out at freeze potentially accidentally harming Nora and leading freeze to retaliate. I’m not set on either of these options and think there are definitely ways to improve both stories however I do like the idea of Bruce being pushed to extreme measures because of his fear of loss and almost becoming a villain in the story before being slightly redeemed by letting go and accepting the death of someone close to him. Losing someone like Alfred in the second movie could also leave more room for Batman to create a connection with a child in the third movie and have to cope with being a parent to a young robin with no one to guide him through that. Just some thoughts lmk what you think or other related ideas!

Imagine the movie begins as it pans through the floor loud strong footsteps can be heard in the room. Three bodies are seen as it zooms towards the face of one as an instrumental to a well known Christmas song plays. The body is turned over and a cold fog leaves the bodies mouth as the last of the air in his lungs leaves his body. Jim is there as they investigate the most recent murder the third one of the month. Batman seems agitated as he has already seen this the two other times yet there are no leads and they struggle to understand what is being used to kill these people. (I think this would be a beautiful start to the story. I also think maybe instead of freeze needing to remain cold it could just be he wears the suit because his “freeze gun” has a wide reach and would hurt him too. Thanks for the amazing video I love this hype and I can’t wait for the Batman 2!!)

I don't think Matt would do Mr. Freeze without Nora and just have him be some random thug or killer. That just wouldn't be interesting at all. I like the idea of freeze being a secondary villain to someone else, someone that could be funding his research into Nora's treatment in return for his services as a gun for hire. That way there's more of a mystery to who's really behind the killings and the motivation of Mr freeze isn't immediately obvious to people who know the heart of ice story because Nora wouldn't be revealed until the middle or the end of the movie after batman and gordon have investigated. My ideal batman 2 would focus on the dichotomy between batman and his new Bruce Wayne persona. It would be a story about Bruce Wayne working with harvey dent to rehabilitate Arkham asylum into a place that provides treatment for people like riddler and joker. It would also involve Hugo strange's obsession with trying to unravel who batman is and why he does what he does, this could involve manipulating Mr freeze into doing a series of crimes that would act as tests for batman. At the end or the midpoint of the movie, Mr freeze's motivations could be revealed to batman and the audience, making him a far more sympathetic character. This would be a challenge for batman as it's something he would have to deal with differently to how he normally would, which could give Hugo insight into Bruce's psyche and lead him to figuring out his identity. The movie could end with freeze killing Hugo, rendering batman's identity a secret. Hugo's manipulation of a mentally ill freeze would serve as an analogy for the system that takes advantage of the patients in Arkham, Hugo's death at the hands of freeze and Arkham's rehabilitation by Harvey dent and Bruce Wayne would be a happy ending to the story

And the freeze gun could just be a flamethrower he found at gothcorp last second to defend himself from Boyle and everyone else but instead using liquid nitrogen or something like that since let’s just say it was out of gasoline🤷🏽♂️We can assume it was effective enough and ironic so he kept it lol

You could probably make it so during the forceful shutdown of his project, Fries got horrible freeze wounds during the process. This way he could still have the disfigurement and perhaps baggy/concealed outfits to cover his wounds and lessen their impact as he's far too on edge to sit down and allow his body to heal properly. Instead of needing to keep himself at zero, he pops a ton of painkillers instead to keep himself functional while his wife is on the line. A villain who pushes through intense physical pain for the sake of love, needing to fight desperately for that chance to save it while allowing nothing, even the harm he's causing to himself, to get in the way.

I've been looking forward to this possible series since you first mentioned the idea... With Mr. Freeze, you ended up taking the idea of his initial crime spree the same direction I was thinking it could go. Instead of being an outright serial killer like Joker or Riddler in this universe, I imagine Mr. Freeze doing a series of thefts to obtain materials or tech in either the pursuit of saving Nora or, similarly to the big freeze gun in "Heart of Ice", he is stealing tech to help him create a larger weapon that would be used for a revenge plot in the third act of the movie as part of a larger set piece if he is the main villain of said movie. There may be murders associated with some or even all of these thefts, but it be more of an incidental thing where a security guard tries to stop him and he does what he has to do in order to not be stopped. At the beginning, you mentioned Poison Ivy a good bit, and especially in relation to her modern depiction with the supernatural based plant controlling powers that she has. I think she is a character that could be very easily adapted, but like you mentioned, they would have to shift away from her modern supernatural depiction. I see Ivy being depicted more as a femme fatale as she was in her earlier comic stories (1960s through 70s or maybe even the 80s, and even her initial episode or two on B:TAS), where she is a botanist that uses real world (in their universe) plants for toxins, realistic weapons, etc., for extortion schemes, ecoterrorism, etc. I could even see where the portion of her character that walks the line of the fantastical is that she develops an immunity to toxins and poisons over time because of her work and the things she is exposed to. It would be more of a stretch and more along the lines of your ideas of how giving Mr. Freeze HIS medical condition can't be ruled out but would be less likely... but I could even see them POSSIBLY walking the line of her genetically mutating some of the plants to be weaponized to develop toxic spores that are spread airborne, etc., without her actually controlling the plants and having the powers or without her plants being sentient beings. Because of how her powers would have to be scaled back (or not shown at all), I'm not sure she's the type of villain that could headline a movie, but I could definitely see her schemes intertwined around a movie's primary villain's plot and/or her femme fatale type schemes (or an ecoterrorist disguised as a doctor or scientist like the BTAS episode "Eternal Youth") being something in the background that Batman is having to deal with while also tackling the plot from whoever the main villain(s) would be in such a movie. Ivy is actually probably one of the more straightforward villains to adapt. We'd just have to go old school with her instead of leaning more into her modern depiction that we all think of when we visualize Poison Ivy as a villain today. Great series start! I'm looking forward to who you tackle next. 😃

I think one of the most powerful ways to approach Mr. Freeze would be to presume him delusional. If he believes his wife can be restored, but she cannot. That he himself is cold, but in fact he isn't, even though he wears a suit that makes it look as if he is. His weapon could simply be liquid nitrogen, and perhaps he isn't even killing anyone, at least not deliberately. He's not trying to kill, but to save peoples' lives, but in increasingly bizarre and dangerous ways.

I have a few thoughts. First of all, I think the example beyond Poison Ivy that you're looking for is probably Clayface, the dude who's able to morph and change at will due to over-use of defective facial cream. I think you could totally still put Mr. Freeze in a suit, just say he needs to be kept at a low temperature, just not freezing. The suit is an important part of his character in my opinion, a constant reminder of his loneliness, and also the fact that, even if he gets Nora back, he won't be able to touch her again. The having to be kept at freezing temperature is the really fantastical part of that, given that his blood should freeze solid, and of course the question of how he made the suit in the first place when he dies without it and he was just sort of left to die in a lab. I think a good solution to both of these problems would be to say that room temperature is painfully hot, burning him due to his drastically decreased body temp, but not actually lethal and it's not actual freezing that he must be kept at. The real question I think would be how to adapt his freeze-gun. Probably the way I would do it in a more grounded setting, would be to have a gun that sprays some sort of super-cooled chemicals that instantly freeze what he sprays them at. Perhaps causing frostbite on human targets with limited exposure, but enough to kill when close up and continued.
@sourdeisel113 Жыл бұрын
what if instead of needing to keep his body below zero, there’s a tragic accident in his lab at GothCorp that leads to him + Nora inhaling cryogenic chemicals-which kills her and leaves him needing a rebreather with oxygen tanks to survive. this could also be a cool origin for his vengeance tale, where he blames Gothcorp for the accident and murders the board members he holds responsible.

The angle that I would approach is: Victor and Nora fries have recently lost an unborn child- maybe due to a rare disease that Nora fries is carrying- this would help explain why victor is so obsessed with saving nora’s life- he doesn’t want to loose anyone else close to him. Also Ferris Boyle has convinced Bruce Wayne’s company to take over Gothcorp; hoping to eliminate Victor Fries who was using Gothcorp’s own experiments to save Nora. Because Bruce Wayne is young and naive as a business man, he goes along with Boyle’s plan. And Gothcorp is destroyed, Victor is caught in the destruction and wounded badly. Somehow surviving the explosion, victor uses the same Technology to help build himself a suite that helps him heal his wounds, but in turn needs to keep his body at zero degrees. Now with a new prototype suite, victor goes on a rampage for revenge. Meanwhile Batman must fix Bruce Wayne’s mistake before it is too late

could be that he quits his teaching position after discovering his wife's illness, choosing to take up an offer from Goth Co. for him and others to research and fight the disease. her disease progresses further, and the team places her under cryogenic refrigeration to slow the progression. Fries slowly loses his rationality becoming more abrasive and hostile towards his co researchers, and taking bigger risks in experimentation and funds. this leads to him being annexed from the research party, and due to the progression of her disease, their objective switches from curing her disease to preventing it in others, but ultimately leaving Nora to die. from there obvious villain set up is obvious, it also sets up a theme of necessary sacrifice and obviously grief. id also say (bit of a hot take) have a lesser known villain running around as the antagonist of batman's story, while fries' story runs separately until the circumstances between each story make the two finally collide, with the post half of the movie now focusing on understanding, both for batman to adjust his approach of handling criminals, and fries accepting the death of nora and being arrested and commited. i also think it would be cool to see him on the path to reform. it would bring a symbol of hope to gotham instead of the usual "gonna break out and kill again" motif, possibly even having bruce wayne create a branch of wayneco for the rehabilitation of criminals to use their skills in the benefit of gotham

I think just as the Reeves-verse take on 'The Riddler' owed much of its direction to the Zodiac killer, this version of Mr. Freeze would take inspiration from infamous real-life contract killer Richard Kuklinski, 'the Iceman'. But yes, eventually his methods would escalate until he's in a proto-suit. And I think Dave Bautista of all people would actually crush it, truly!

Idea for a grounded ClayFace. This iteration of ClayFace is based of his Golden Age counterpart. Basil Karlo is a former horror movie actor who played a serial killer of the same name in a popular 1980's film franchise (similar to Friday the 13th and Nightmare of Elm Street). However as time goes on people lose interest and the studio making the films drops him. He struggles to find work in the industry afterwards. To make matters worse he gets into an accident where his face is completely disfigured. When he hears about a reboot/remake of "his movie", he snaps and dons a makeshift costume of his film character, killing anyone involved in production.

I could see Poison Ivy being adapted quite easily if you lean into her being infected with a mould that controls her. Turn her into a tragic character, with the question if she is even governing herself, or is there a mould that has taken over and is driving her to spread itself? Downplay some of the over the top aspects of her abilities, and have it be more about the spreading of a disease. Have it be that the mould/fungus jumped species in a lab from insects to mammals. Could even tap into the 'Gain of function' controversy that is current. Freeze is a bit tricky, but make him really sympathetic and people will overlook some of the 'absurd' elements, if they connect on an emotional level. Personally Freeze is one of my favourite villains, and I think could be adapted easily. The Penguin was done really well. Very interesting character.

I think Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy started in the comics as a woman who just liked using poison to kill her targets. It was only later in the 90s they gave her all these plant powers. Poison Ivy as a grounded character could be done by simply extending the reach of her poison, like she poisons entire crowds.

As for mr Freeze, you could take his name literally as he is frozen in the past. Have him be an allegory for a brain degenerative disease, and he cant move beyond a moment when Nora was around and things were good. His body is good, but his mind is going. Have it be that Nora is actually gone, and he is trying to get her back, and at times he could be a kind person, who has moments of rage and anger lashing out and looking for Nora. work in a physical aspect with him being 'frozen' for the fantasy element. He is literally frozen in the past. Its one angle that could ground him in reality, and make him even more tragic.

Great breakdown. This seems to be a great series of videos describing how you see how Reeves can adapt Batman's rogues gallery into the big screen. I believe he will meet fans in the middle with this. I believe there will be heavy pushback if he turns someone like Clayface into a more grounded villain. Same with Freeze and Poison Ivey. I believe Matt Reeves can handle the fantastical elements like how The Last of Us are handling the more fantastical elements of their show. Can make Mr Freeze condition a believable condition that he suffers from. Will be hard trying to do another 'whodunit' murder mystery movie. Like the idea of having Nora being the center of Mr Freeze motivation. Gives his character real motivation that will be different than Riddler and other villains. Can have Batman actual be sympathetic towards Freeze motivation and help him at some point in the movie trying to get a cure. Can also have a great fight scene to end the movie with Freeze vs Batman.

For a villain we haven’t seen that I think would adapt perfectly is the villain anarchy and firefly. I had a story that if it was the sequel, would have the citzens of gotham on the fence about the police and their government, rising tensions after what the riddler did and exposed. But here comes this anonymous figure named anarchy staging domestic terrorist acts and revealing gothams secrets to stir distrust and bring Gotham to anarchy. Batman has to find a way to stop him by following clues and hints. A way for firefly to fit would be to make him a man who lost his daughter to a mob hit that was directed towards him. But the murderer got off the hook because the judge corruption with the mob. This causes him to fall into a depressive spiral, listening to anarchy’s words till he breaks and turns into firefly. The movie could have Batman never find anarchy which teaches Batman that sometimes he won’t win. That the villains get away and he can’t solve everything in the suit. Something needs to be done as Bruce Wayne

I want a live action Batman movie series that finally DOES embrace the villains supernatural elements because that's when they're at their best. As much as I like Matt's universe and can't wait to see it grow, we are so overdue for an accurate fantastical batman..
@BobaTalks Жыл бұрын
As for all out fantastical, there'll be lots of opportunity for that with the DCU's Batman.
I personally think that Victor Fries having his suit could have a different function. This is coming from a 'fanfic' about how Mr. Freeze could be adapted into Christopher Nolan's universe. In that, Fries' body was damaged, and he would've died, but he uses the liquid nitrogen-like chemical that he created to freeze the vital areas of his body that were damaged and save himself. But, if those areas thaw, the wounds will be open and he'll die. He he makes a suit and creates his freezing equipment made from the same chemical.

@albertokorogu1258 Жыл бұрын
@@oliverrasmusson2362 I don't like the assumption that people are treating TB Universe like it's another TDK Trilogy. Nolan had a specific vision in mind for his movies and followed through on it (even if it did end up hurting the overall adaptations themselves.) Reeves is not the same way. Like this dude made a trilogy abt warring talking apes and giant alien kaiju monsters for crying out loud. Something Nolan might find too stupid or not up to par for his pay grade. Acting like he can't do a Robin, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, or Man-bat is ridiculous imo.

If they ever get around to using Killer Croc, I hope it would be somewhat close to B:tAS and Batman: Earth One, where he's not a giant mutated humanoid lizard but he's an outcast because of his skin condition. I appreciate how in Batman: Earth One, he played a part in Batman's investigation and wasn't a generic villain, I think it could fit in Reeves' Batman universe. I can imagine Poison Ivy being an eco-terrorist, I could've sworn she wasn't a metahuman until recently, at least the 90's. Firefly can be a secondary antagonist, someone who can be responsible for fires across Gotham and he could be hired by some mob bosses like Sal Maroni or whoever else. This can be a reference to actual house and business fires caused by the mob in real life.

How about this version of Gotham starts off grounded and realistic but slowly gets more fantastical (but not necessarily wacky) as people grow more and more insane. For example, First Poison Ivy and Scarecrow encounters happen around the same time. Ivy is just a regular plain-looking women with no sexy seductress qualities at all. She gets a hold of Scarecrow’s fear toxin, reverse engineers the formula and adds plant chemicals to it. Now she has a chemical that causes people (particularly men) to hallucinate plant monsters and her as a super sexy seductress. Eventually, she comes into contact with the Green, which transforms her into her classic green-skinned, red-haired seductress self complete with Chlorokinesis and seduction/hypnosis powers. Mr Freeze. Starts off as a tall, well-built and imposing scientist. In his lab, he uses a special suit resembling a hazmat suit and including an exoskeleton to protect him from the cold and move machinery, with the design inspired by the classic Mr. Zero look. He’s also invented his cold gun, a modified blow torch that uses liquid nitrogen to quickly freeze things. When applied to flesh, it causes cold burns that can severely harm and kill people (which his suit helps protect against). As it’s a modified blow torch, it’s only useful at very close range and does not actually fire projectiles. Eventually, when fighting cops, Freeze’s nitrogen tank explodes after getting hit by a stray bullet, crippling him. In later encounters, he will use his cold suit’s exoskeleton feature as a means to walk instead of keeping himself alive due to needing subzero temperatures. This last idea might be too outlandish but it’s a massive tribute to Gothic horror. Man-Bat could be grounded by referencing real life experiments on animal brains, Soviets breeding apes with humans, or using electricity to resurrect them. Some combination sees Kirk Langstrom’s brain go into a Man-Bat body. Alternatively, this could be done with Solomon Grundy for a literal Frankenstein adaptation

Riddler took inspiration from the real life Zodiac killer so for me Freeze should be similar, use the urban myth of the ice bath with a killer harvesting organs. Maybe Freeze is testing his freezing technology on subjects or just wants organs from people and freezes them to try keep them alive. That would be the way I would adapt him, still include Nora and Boyle as his backstory but change it up a bit, maybe Nora is already dead but Boyle has the same disease so he is coercing Freeze to work for him, meanwhile Bruce is working with Boyle to rebuild Gotham after the flood and he later realises how bad Boyle is

I can imagine that the concept of heart of ice is just a man who lost his sympathy or feelings and emotions because of his wife Nora and his scientific research about the cryogenic sleep just cut off funding or whatever kind of a dramatic situation that makes him feels that he only seeking for vengeance or making people suffer as he lost his sympathy and emotions and his hope for his beloved wife curing, and that's doesn't need him to be in a subzero temperature or anything just a "Heart of ice" cold blooded vengeful blinded human

A realistic poison ivy came to my mind from a leaked concept art of a canceled Arkham game that had poison ivy with toxic gas tanks on her hips and hands, imagine if she used her plants and botany knowledge to manipulate and make poisonous gas and traps. While also feeling like she has a deep connection to plants. I feel like that would be the best bet. And with freeze he could use different tools and gadgets similar to Batman that have a nitrogen gas method to freeze different objects and things or use them as explosives. While also having a suit to survive in sub temperatures due to a condition that he was afflicted with in an accident. Two examples of how imo they could easily adapt freeze and ivy

James Gunn's DCU would be better off doing this villain and storyline. But if Matt Reeves did use Mr Freeze then I can see him using some kinda freezing injection or something just like Batman injecting himself with the green stuff (Bane's venom? Maybe get to see Bautista play Bane after all?)

Great video! Looking forward to more in the series. I really think Freeze is possible, especially utilizing the Gotham Flood as a huge story point in Victors story. Maybe him and his wife got caught up in it and she goes into some sort of Coma from the flood. Freeze figures a way to keep her alive and blames Batman for not saving her. I think it could work minus the Freeze Gun ;)

Mr. Freeze doesn't need a super suit. All it needs to be is a moniker. He can be the type of killer who freezes his targets and leaves the frozen bodies at the homes of gangsters for them to find their partners frozen in contorted death poses.

I think the idea of people picking out a singular villain for the next movie is a narrow view of the overall plan I can see Reeves putting together here. Let's look at this from a distance, sometimes the pieces don't come together until you look at something from WAY the hell back. Reeves studied under Loeb, Loeb wrote Year One, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory and many other great Batman stories that have more or less become THE established canonical origin of the Dark Knight's early days. The Batman loosely adapted portions of Year One and the first half of The Long Halloween with Riddler taking place of Holiday. If I was Reeves and I had control of doing my own grounded universe, I would stick to the track I put myself on and make my universe essentially the cinematic Loebverse and follow up with a second half of The Long Halloween and beginnings of Dark Victory. And I genuinely believe that is his plan, hence why he is starting to set up all of the villains through spinoffs so he can focus the main films on adapting those stories. Stories that cannot be done without certain villains being established. All of Loeb's stories were grounded for still being set in a world where things like zombies and plant controlling women existed. It really would not be hard to take those works and put a realistic, grounded spin on them. If I had to put money on it, I'm willing to bet my entire bank account that the next movie won't just have A villain, but a full Rogue's Gallery of villains showing the shift in control over crime in Gotham from the old guard mobster types to full on weirdos. I think that's what Reeves was trying to allude to with the influence Batman plays on Riddler and his followers, hinting that there would be others. Crazy attracts crazy.

Batman himself is already fantastical. Battinson walking through machine guns in The Batman, was fantastical. Also, Nolan already did the grounded version, he should stop trying to make another grounded movie. I like the first one so much, for it's detective thriller genre incorporation; however i think he shouldn't care too much about making it too grounded. Mr. Freeze would be a very good horror-ish villain, he should do it. He already said he wants to

Can I ask a question, guys? Why is every director wants to ground Superhero movies and make them realistic lol. To stay on the topic from the video, @bobatalks As long as they keep the essence of Freeze in their detective base Batman movie then the movie is gonna be great. Now I do agree with you saying I hope they keep his backstory to BTAS because like you said out of all of Batman’s rogues gallery you can sympathize and understand Freeze way more that everyone else. I just hope it’s set in the winter. As far as the suit and the gun I WILL BET MONEY it won’t be nowhere near what we know freeze normally looks like due to the simple fact that like Matt Reeves use little to none CGI. So the freeze gun thing probably ain’t gonna happen. AMAZING VIDEO BROTHER KEEP EM COMING 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Victor would have to wear the suit to keep him alive by protecting him from bacteria. A corrupted immune system could also explain his extremely pale skin.
