I knew the neighbourhoods they were going to talk about would include Harehills, Gipton and Beeston. Chapeltown seems a lot better now though than in the past.

I’m 29 and lived in Leeds nearly all my life, the crazy thing is these kids don’t realise the stuff they’re dying over now was never that deep in the early 2000’s… Being friends with some of the roughest and most well connected people in leeds, this stuff maybe took up like 30% of our time… A ton of messed up stuff happened don’t get me wrong but we were never “in the trenches” 24/7. We had lives. Those of us who weren’t grafting would just chill at a park all day getting blazed and liqoured up, now and then something MIGHT pop off when two “rivals” bumped into each other but we might of lost 2/3 people a year MAX now it seems like it’s every month… it’s sad. Glad I got out when I did, these kids (and the ones who never grew up) are just animals today… Kinda ashamed to be a part of this statistic

Before anyone starts asking for credentials, 3 high schools + more behavioural units than I can remember, countless suspensions, criminal charges and court cases. I’ve had ties to the service crew. (even though I wasn’t really into footie (rhinos till I die)). Yes I’ve spent time in hmp Doncaster, aka marshgate. A few of the guys I grew up with are doing long sentences for firearms, drugs, gbh and attempted M. Not to mention the hand full of people I’ve lost personally to this shit… Due to all this I’m scarred outside and in. Riddled with pts, anxiety and depression. And seemingly surrounded by ghosts… I wish my day 1’s would quit this shit and get out while they still can. Trust, it ain’t worth it. Very few of these guys will be there when it’s all said and done. Move on with your lives. When we stop growing we start dying.

I think what some people in these comments especially those who live in better areas of Leeds (no need to go to the areas in this video) and potentially people who went uni, staying in accommodation and generally just be being a students fail to understand is Leeds is quite a big city. Meanwood is 5 mins away from Alwoodley. Im from Moortown but moved to Meanwood when I was 13. I knew loads of people from both areas that mixed as friends, but that was 30 years ago.
