In American language sounds: Björn would be said as Bj-earn as in 'earning money" & Leif as Lay-f : as in "Lay down". sportteam)

I'm American and have never heard that pronunciations of either name used. I know people with both of those names and he pronounced them correctly

Because they say the names with sound from american alphabet letters. So his way is correct if the person in story was a swede-american not a swede and this person is someone still in homecountry of Sweden. Our phonetics are very diffrent and we have 3 more letters in alphabet. Ex. Lee - Li both are names Li is a female. More - mår (but here the meaning are also diffrent, " hur mår du" mean how are you. Björn mean Bear, so he named his wolffriend bear instead of Ulv or Ulf that mean wolf.
