A brilliant recount of the events that led up to the Battle of Barnet, the battle itself and the aftermath. Thank you for your video!

Thank you, it's so hard to keep up with who is who and whose on whose side. It's gratifying that the participants had the same struggle😀

This is my favorite historical time period. I can not figure out why, since there are so many other fascinating ones, but here we are. If you can I would love to hear your take on the Battle of Wakefield. Cheers 🍻

Thanks Matt. Great video. I wish you'd make more. You've become my favourite historian and if I ever make it back to England I hope it's at a time when I can attend a lecture by you. Also, when are you going to write the last fiction book about the Thomas Cromwell painting? I have all of your books and learn so much from them. I still wish you'd write one one Anne Neville or maybe a fictional one on her and Richard's relationship from childhood on up.

I’ll try to get more videos done. Hopefully things are getting back to the point of being able to do talks in person soon. I need to do the third book of my fiction ones but struggle for time. I have another fiction book 90% done that I need to finish too, and several ideas for more!

Is it me or is does weather play quite a big part in Edward’s luck? Mortimers Cross he managed to convince his men the parhelion was a good omen and raised morale. The snow and wind worked in his favour at Towton and the fog at Barnet worked in his favour too. Edward IV seems to have had a fair bit of good luck in his life I think.

Thank you, enjoyed that immensely. Why do they choose certain areas for battle? I have always wondered why Bosworth field was chosen in the last fight for Richard, was it convenience or landscape?

It tends to be where the armies meet, unless one is given time to build a defensive position, such as at the 1st Battle of St Albans, or Northampton. At Barnet, Warwick was heading south as Edward marched north and they collided at Barnet. Bosworth was the point at which Richard III, based at Nottingham then mustering at Leicester, cut off Henry Tudor’s army as it marched south on the old Roman road towards London. Richard wanted to prevent them reaching the capital, so positioned himself across the road to intercept them as soon as he could.

Matt, a wonderful insight into the history of this cataclysmic event. Would love to see more! Anyone going to Barnet should also check out the Barnet Museum where three large paintings by Keith West depicting the event are on display. You can learn more about the first painting here and what's happening with 3 potential kings on the field! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXOmonahpLp0lZo
