Great video! I like the poetic comparison of the future Good King Richard with Hector!

A petal to be plucked? Ooo, love that allegory. Great video, Matt. What a brutal world to inhabit. And another wonderful example of Richard's loyal character. The tragedy for Richard is that the malign, murderous myths and fake fables (even now in recent biographies of the Brothers of York) are continually regurgitated to his detriment, and our sorrow.

He was a great warrior even as a teenager despite his handicaps. It was really a shame what he turned into...

I lived in Tewkesbury as a kid, and was there in 1971 when they celebrated the 500th anniversary of the battle. Of course we learned all about it in school, and it turned out that Margaret's camp was only a few hundred metres from the school, so me and a few friends thought it would be cool to go there and see if we could find any traces of blood! Unsurprisingly, we didn't, so that was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless the history and the connection to it remained, so I'm still watching stuff like this 54 years later.

Great video! I get a daily from The Tewkesbury Battlefield Society and was reading some posts about this morning. Your video helped me get an idea in my head what the battlefield looked like and how the battle played out better. I've always thought that Edward letting Margaret live was something considering what she did to Edwards's father and brother and also the way he wouldn't let his soldiers desecrate her soldier's bodies. Another way that Hector and Richard were alike is that their bodies continued to mutilated and humiliated post mortam.

Great video, thank you! I didn’t know a lot about the battle and the days around it so found this interesting. I had no idea Marguerite had fooled Edward, not once but twice! I really admire her for fighting her cause! I wonder had Edward of Westminster lived, if the French would have backed him a Bosworth instead of Tudor.

Great Video, Matt. Bank Holiday Monday 1471 was obviously hotter than today. 😂

I always wondered about that too. Imagine him winning this battle how history would've changed. I also wonder about how the prince died that day, in plain battle as they say or murdered begging for his life as they also say 🤔

Great video, really enjoyed with my morning coffee 👍 I'm actually researching about the Bastard of Fauconberg at the moment so it was great to hear the little nod towards him at the end 😀

Great summary of the battle but I think the location pin for Windsor castle is about 50miles northeast of where it should be?

Hey Matt. Ordered "Loyalty Binds Me" for my mom. She's the person responsible for planting the Ricardian seed in my teenage head many, many years ago. I've sung your praises and I know she'll love your book. And for my part, just started "Survival of the Princes in the Tower". Good grief, it's a Matt Lewis family marathon! 😎

Edward was so ready for battle even when he didn't have an advantage he was just offering anybody battle, then had to chase Margaret and the Lancastrians down to get them to finally fight. He really was a true 100% warrior king.

Hey Mr.Lewis if you ever see this I hope you could answer me a question. I’ve been very interested on getting more info on John de la Pole 1st Earl of Lincoln. Is their a certain source you know of that would have more info about him than Wiki? I’ve put pieces together on his life from about 6-7 different WotR books but would like something a bit more in depth than just a name mention. Thanks!

Hi. John de la Pole is a fascinating man who deserves more attention. Historian Michele Schindler is working on a biography of John and his father (I believe), so hopefully more information is coming soon. At the moment he is more of a supporting actor in stories.
