Amazing to hear this.. My ancestor Sir Simon Glendonwyn fell at Otterburn alongside the Earl of Douglas. His brother Sir Adam Glendonwyn was also on the field that day. Their Grandfather also Adam Glendonwyn fought at Bannockburn. Long live free Scots!

My mother side is Thompson's. They spelled it originally without the P in the spelling. I don't know for sure if they were a border family or not. I've always felt connected to the border area and music.

It's probably a real Border song. The earliest known copy comes around 1550 (and it was probably written earlier), if Wikipedia is to be believed on this, and the Border Reiver era ended in 1600.
