Well done Stephen, another top quality entertaining video. At 13.35 the item that you unearthed looks like a trigger from a early air rifle. Very well presented and a honest way to show that you have to be really lucky to find treasure. It's just like the lucky dips from the 60s/70s when you dipped your hand into a tub of saw dust and hoped you found a bag of marbles. I have watched all of your ring from coin video's and found them very inspirational and would cherish one of your fine works of art. I have a little something for you that i am having made up by a engineering company who make custom parts for Bentley. I will pm you next week when it is made so i can forward it to you and hope that you will find it very handy when you are making coin rings. Please keep the video's coming. Regards Phil.

I'd love one of your beautiful coin-rings. I just took up metal detecting a few weeks ago and decided to get a Deus, but I haven't even found a single coin yet! Having one so beautifully and carefully crafted would mean a lot, but mostly to my wife! She recently lost a British commemorative coin, given to her by her deceased father, that she'd been carrying in her purse since the early 80's. I was hoping to find it somewhere nearby with the Deus, but no luck so far. By the way, I am an ex-pat and this video made me very home sick! Our family had a static caravan in Stamford Bridge throughout the 60's & 70's. I spent most of my weekends there while growing up. I absolutely love that part of the country.

Hello from the USA! I have watched a couple of your videos over the weekend and I just subscribed! I just love the history over there and learning about it. We don't have nearly the history here! my oldest coin is from the late 1800s and that's lucky for me. I have always wanted to learn how to make coin rings and getting one made out of an old European coin would be absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing the great history and finds! HH. Rhonda :)

Hi I'm Cheryl from Missouri in the USA. I have watched a couple of your videos now. I'm new to your channel but I have certainly enjoyed watching you find things. The piece you thought was scrap but wasn't sure? To me it looked liked a piece off of a metal chest plate. It had some sort of design on it. I would definitely love to have a piece of fine jewelry. That would be awesome. I love rings and don't have very many.

Hi Stephen I would like one of your rings I used to make them a long time a go, from half crowns before I retired. We had a tool that made them in one hit. Do not punch the hole first, form the ring like a cup shape the turn the end off to make the ring shape on a lathe. Then size it up. Bernie Briscombe.

I would absolutely adore a ring, man. I used to have handmade silver rings, my ex and I did. I really loved those. Unfortunately, I brokenheartedly had to part with them. I would be indebted for receiving one from you, Stephen. *(If I am lucky enough to get one...I am a size 9)* Ah, Stamford Bridge. I love the story of the lone Viking on the narrow bridge, though I am uncertain to its full truth in the version I have heard. Regardless, the story of the Berserker with the greataxe taking down many dozens of Saxons, then meeting his fate as a Saxon snuck under the bridge and impaled him...interesting stuff. Great video, as always.

The "Vikings" were not in York at this time, Harald Hadrada's army was a Norwegian force, they had defeated the northern earls at the Battle of Fulford and were waiting at Stamford Gate for the York town leaders to come and give them access to the city, instead Harold Godwinson turned up.

I'd love to have a coin ring. I am very much fascinated by the process of making them. Unfortunately, I have arthritic hands and can't do it myself so I watch you. Having the ring would be a constant reminder of the phenomenal history in the old country, since now I live in the New World. Our history and geography make it a real challenge to make finds such as you would in England. I notice you get quite a bit of shrapnel and ammunition casings. Is this residual from the war? How much does war junk hamper your searches?

Technically, he's correct. Edward the Martyr ruled England from 975 to 978. Edward the Confessor ruled 1041 to 1066 thus making him the second "Edward" to rule. However, the use of numbers after a person's name didn't really get started until after 1066 apart from the two "Harold"s.

Hi Stephen, the Stamford Bridge site was somewhat disappointing but as usual I think that negative hunts do a lot to encourage others who are also finding very little. My wife has just undergone surgery for cancer and I'd love to give her a ring. Her fingers are pretty small though, so the coin also needs to be small to make it fine rather than chunky. Maybe you would consider her for the silver shilling?

12:09 Could that be a relic of the Battle of Britain? I mean all those aeroplanes zooming around shooting each other they have to come down somewhere... Now you drill a small hole in the base of it and stick it on a little eyelet and >bing< you've got a very nice little souvenir.
@alienphysics8592

Considering you often metal detect in very flat / open spaces, I would think you would get a small vehicle / motor bike / or similar and design a metal detector "pickup head ?" with a very large diameter ..... There are individuals whom do that very thing when looking for meteorites and cover large area's in a very short time, they simply drag the scan head behind the vehicle on plastic skids. Personally I would have one large for one on board detector and behind those I would have several small coils on skids for a separate detector. If you worked with another person it would be even faster like this in principle --> a) person on vehicle has head phones wired together with adapter so any detector can be heard through one set of head phones.. b) driver also has two sets of simple flags to throw out behind him as he hears detector noise .......... blue or red flags .......... red means the large coil triggered indicating a "deep hit" and blue a "shallow hit" on small coil sounds..... c) the driver continues in this way while the second person begins following the trail and digging, soon to be assisted by the driver whom supposedly won't take long.
