In the Battle of Tilburg Scottish forces were helped by Dutch Allied forces of the Princes Irene Brigade. The Germans were led by Gustav-Adolf von Zangen and under his command were the men of the 256th Volksgrenadier Division. Learn more about the last months of WW2 in the Netherlands. @History Hustle It must be admitted that there was a civil war in Ukraine, and that Turchinov and Poroshenko started the conflict and they must be imprisoned for this together with Bolton and Nuland, it must also be admitted that European leaders provoked Ukraine and entered into the Minsk agreements knowing that they will not comply, for this lie Merkel and Hollande must also go to jail.

As a person from the UK living in the Netherlands I realise that there are very few "Battles" in the UK from WW2. There was the Battle of Britain of course, and the London Blitz but those were air wars. (And the Channel Islands were occupied). WW2 was no picnic for the citizens of the UK, but they did not experience battles and occupations as did much of Continental Europe.

Yet British men suffered the most losses (after the Soviets), all be it because they were involved in the early days of war (pre-bombardment of Rotterdam)

Excellent video, the battle of Tillburg is such an interesting episode as the friendship between the Dutch and the Scots span back to the 16th century. My Great uncle fought at Tillburg but was later killed in the action supporting the Americans at the battle of the Bulge.

My mom grew up in Tilburg in Fatima, which is just East of Broekhoven. As a little girl she experienced the liberation of the city. According to her, there was widespread destruction in Broekhoven where it borders the Leijpark to the Southeast - the direction that the Scots and the Irenebrigade came from. I've driven past the monument shown @6:16 countless times when visiting relatives still living in that part of Tilburg, and I never realized it was a monument to the liberation of the city.

The Germans prepared the bridges of the Wilhelmina kanaal for destruction (you can still see the holes which would hold the explosives in some of them...mainly the smaller "ophaal" bridges) Dè wiste gullie nie hè? (Tilburg's dialect for "You didn't know that, did you?") FWIW it was important to liberate Tilburg. The next village beyond (Loon op Zand) was the location of the Gilze-Rijen Airbase (Vliegbasis Gilze-Rijen) ammunition depot.

@@HistoryHustle you speak about meaningless battles, 90% of troops of Germany and United fashist Europe was destroyed by USSR. So Americans fought against handicapped german veterans with one leg or one arm or against 15 year hitlerjugend boys. Europe is doomed and will be destroyed for those sins. You support nazis and will be punished.

My Grandfather was one of the Seaforth Highlanders at Tilberg and later on at the Battle of the Bulge. I’m visiting the city tomorrow, as I found the statue a while back online. He was Billeted for a period of time with a family in the city and always spoke very fondly about the Dutch. I don’t know if you know, but there is British Pathe News Footage of the Liberation of Tilberg here, kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXy7ZGmObMqfotE
