I used that exact makeup of English troops to turn back the Mongols in Lithuania in TW Medieval 2, but with a few catapults. I put swordmen in the center, billmen on the flanks, longbowmen behind them, then catapults, then heavy cavalry in the rear. The catapults and longbowmen hammered the Mongol horse archers, and the billmen turned back their heavy cavalry. I lost fewer than a hundred men, while the Mongols lost over 5000. I love Total War.
