I actually started crying when Andy said that there are people who can’t hear your favorite songs because that’s true and I didn’t realize how sad it is until this day. Music is a joy for me and it means that those people have less joy than average people. I hope that one day the technology will jump to a place when music can be delivered into their brain 💚💚💚

Thank you, The Voice Australia, for adding captions on the video, it's really GREAT to have that! If you can do that for all the upcoming videos, you will be providing access to us all! But as a native Auslan user myself and Deaf too, Andy Dexterity has been using a lot of wrong signs and to be frank, it was embarrassing and hard to watch him with his lack of sign language knowledge. That is the result of not participating himself in our deaf and hard of hearing community regularly who live and breath sign language, lack of practice and understanding, cultural appropriation and refusing to heed advice from us. Any person with decent Auslan skills will see the difference. For those who don't know Australian sign language, it's like a person who thinks he knows the Aboriginal language (Kriol, for example) fluently but when he speaks the language, other Indigenous speakers who use Kriol cannot understand him well and doesn't make sense most of the time. It can come off very insensitive or even disrespectful because he is telling everyone else he knows how to use the language and showing ignorance. The general message was nice to be recognised, it's amazing to spread awareness about that, yes Auslan is a beautiful language to learn and sing with, but Andy was totally the wrong ambassador for that. Emma Watkins is a shining example of a hearing person using Auslan and incorporating it with music, look it up in her videos and you will realize the stark contrast between them.

Thank you for being honest, as a person who is learning American Sign Language , I find it very helpful that you pointed this out. Like you said, it's like learning the standard version of a language and expecting to know all the nuances in the community and the culture itself- which doesn't work unless you integrate yourself into the community. It is great that awareness is being about the Deaf Community, especially on world-wide viewed shows like this. The musical experience should be accessible to everyone

Wow, I think you should be more grateful. At least he is trying and seems to have married into it, so he wouldn't be as fluent as someone born deaf. I don't see you up there doing this. What a slap in the face to him. Just like regional verbal accents and cuktures, sign language has regional and cultural differences, too. At least he has brought it to the world as an issue.
