Oscard the riderles horse with green blinkers my dad had a few quid on the 100 to 1 but fell at beachers 1st time round

Shame you can't upload as it'll be great to see again the round of jumping Alverton put in before Becher's second time. Still a long way from home, but if he stood up he could well have emulated Golden Miller in doing the double.

Yes. Two loose horses ran across the Chair, causing the carnage, pretty similiar in 2001 edition at the first Canal Turn.

The only bloody winner I ever had in the national. Tenner at 33s!

Is it possible the loose horse actually helped the winner more than other contenders in the final run-in? Rubstic was the nearest to him and got a perfect chasing target?

Alverton was perhaps a lucky winner in a lack lustre Gold Cup that year. Tied Cottage fell at the last from memory. Many doubted if could make it around Aintree and the doubters were proved correct. Tied Cottage was another horse ill suited to the national and fell at Bechers 1st time a year or so later.

I think Alverton would have beaten Tied Cottage. He looks to be going slightly the better of the two at the last.

You're very harsh on poor Alverton. He was going well until he was killed. And he was a proper Gold Cup winner.

@@garyclarke9573 hes one of the loose horses at the chair double negative goes across the fence oskard jumps it slowly total chaos if oskard had followed suit any idea about the horse not familiar with him

if u notice there were 2 incidents, alvertons fall at bechers, may have been a heart attack and kintai gettin caught up in the pile up at the chair, no drastic changes in those days 80, 81 and 82 no fatilities, great win for his unfashionable jockey and small time trainer, rubstic great jumper but slow, wouldnt have a hope in hell of winnin today
