The Beach Boys - Desert Drive [AI]

In the mid 1990's, Brian Wilson along with co-writer Andy Paley, wrote several songs intended for a new Beach Boys album, which ultimately never came to fruition. The songs were meant to evoke the early Beach Boys sound, and "Desert Drive" is one of those songs. An instrumental was produced during the mid 90's sessions, however it was never finished and would eventually be re-recorded for Brian Wilson's "Gettin' In Over My Head" album in 2004. This is an estimate of what a finished Beach Boys version would've sounded like using the original backing track, and 90's era Beach Boys AI models.

Regardless of how you or I feel about AI: assuming Dae Lims assembled the "mid-'90s Mike" model from the sources I'm guessing he did, this might be some of the most mileage anyone's ever gotten out of Beach Boys Salute NASCAR. :P

Not gonna lie, I've not seen haters on any of these comments, unless they're being deleted. I think what might be construed as a "hater" comment may be just criticizing of the adoration of Dae. I give him credit where it's due, I love this stuff but what I see as "helping their legacy" and "Dae Lims is the 5th Beach Boy" comments, that's where it's getting kinda weird.

Thing is, when you know how much work it takes to arrange this stuff (even on a DAW) and the TALENT shown by Dae Lims, these creations are truly remarkable. And by the way, they wouldn’t sound as good or ‘spot on’ as this if he didn’t LOVE the music and Brian & the other Beach Boys.

I crank up the music system where the house vibrates with this song…pure energy as I’m smiling whole time…as a kid drove parents crazy with “I Get Around” “Dance Dance Dance” et al before school every morning and evenings; but they understood as we were musical family. Dad built stereo systems and speakers for theaters. A new BB song was Christmas for me. The BB got me through life with joy. Brian Wilson is a musical genius; just wish he had not had his problems. The drugs and smoking ravished his beautiful voice. But the boys all had great voices.

This doesn't sound very much like Mike, and the backing vocals just sound generic, not like any of The Beach Boys. The Al part sounds better though, the vibrato he often sings with is rather spot on.
