Recipe: Listen to "Be My Baby" on loop for three hours and then write a song. I can't blame him. That song is perfect. Phil Spector is a twisted psycho killer with weird hair, but he's also a musical genius. Wilson and Spector had sort of a competition going on. Wilson respected Spector, but the feeling wasn't mutual. Besides being a psycho killer, Spector is also kind of a dick.

Just read that Brian Wilson was diagnosed with Dementia, pretty advanced from what info I read. Sad. Truly one of the greatest composer/ songwriters ever throughout the history of ALL music. My wife has pretty advanced Dementia, still at home, but am trying to get in home care through LA county social services. She was an RN for over 45+ years. Luckily, there is family, they're all aware of her condition. Pray for Brian Wilson, also, one of the most pure and melodic voices ever. May he be able to enjoy his remaining time in this life as much as possible.

Very sad to hear. Dementia is as cruel as they come. It's a living death. The resources to help victims and families is piss poor - embarrasing for a healthcare society that congratulates itself for helping people live longer, but has no answer for the quality of life. Only those going through it understand the toll.

@@frankm.8188 my mom was diagnosed at 76. My dad was seven years older, but much healthier. They were comfortably off in their retirement and we were able to hire a private personal care worker who had been an RPN. I asked her if she could stand to take my mom out every workday from anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. I explained that we understood she could not entertain my mom all day so if she wanted to take my mom with her when she did her shopping or whatever my mom would enjoy it since my mom loved being around people. We paid her well for this and she and my mom really loved each other. Because of this, my mom lasted six years in the house doing pretty well although declining each year. Eventually, she had to go into a nursing home since she had become too restless. She only lasted close to two years in the nursing home. if she had not gotten so restless and asking the repeated questions, I think we could’ve kept her at home until she died.

It's more than 50 years old, and was made with 4-track recording technology mixed to mono. Seeing old footage like this makes me really sad. Even though I wasn't even alive its still fascinating to me to watch stuff like this because it reminds me of the passing of time and how we don't really stay young for long. Like all the people you see are just enjoying life but at the same time completely unaware of how fast its gone. Then one day in the future when i go back and watch all the old footage of me and my friends, I'll feel the same sappiness i feel right now.

Lil' Mac, you are only as old as you act. There are so many minutes to live in and more sights and sounds than you can ever fill them with. Instead of counting, missing and reminiscing, enjoy and fill those minutes with learning and playing new things, and try to carry all that you see from the past, into your future. Me 59 and still writing and playing and hearing music in my head. I can never mimic Brian, the Zombies, Beatles, Strawbs, Four Tops, DC5, and on and on and on....But I can enjoy it while I spread the "word" and sounds of a time that keeps growing into the present. Listen to Typhoon by Young the Giant, Enormous by Declan McKenna, and Coffee Shop, Landon Pigg, etc.c.c.c.c.c.c.c.c. Go girl and cheer up.

Thanks for leaving this comment, man. It really is amazing when you think about it. I’m a black guy in my early 20s and while my brothers mostly love hip hop, nothing no kind of music will ever speak to me and move me like Pet Sounds and Good Vibrations did, does, and will continue to do so. I just hope I live to see my favorite album turn 100. Maybe I’ll see young people then fall for this music like I did, God Only Knows.

I feel these guys don't get enough recognition. They were "The Beatles" biggest competition and both pushed each other to pull off better and memorable music that we have today. When I ask others about classic rock they'll mention foreign bands like "The Rolling Stones", "The Who", "The Beatles" but bands like "The Beach Boys" and "The Three Dogs Night" show America had their own talented musicians that could compete with the best.

Lyrics: I-I love the colorful clothes she wears And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair I hear the sound of a gentle word On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air I'm pickin' up good vibrations She's giving me the excitations (oom bop bop) I'm pickin' up good vibrations (good vibrations, oom bop bop) She's giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop) I'm pickin' up good vibrations (oom bop bop) She's giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop) I'm pickin' up good vibrations (oom bop bop) She's giving me the excitations (excitations) Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now Softly smile, I know she must be kind When I look in her eyes She goes with me to a blossom world I'm pickin' up good vibrations She's giving me excitations (oom bop bop) I'm pickin' up good vibrations (good vibrations, oom bop bop) She's giving me excitations (excitations, oom bop bop) Good, good, good, good vibrations (oom bop bop) She's giving me excitations (excitations, oom bop bop) Good, good, good, good vibrations (oom bop bop) She's giving me excitations (excitations) Ah, ah, my my, what elation I don't know where but she sends me there Oh, my my, what a sensation Oh, my my, what elation Oh, my my, what Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' Good, good, good, good vibrations (oom bop bop) She's giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop) I'm pickin' up good vibrations Na na na na na, na na na Na na na na na, na na na (bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop) Do do do do do, do do do (bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop) Do do do do do, do do do (bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop)

The Beach Boys story with Brian Wilson, they have a history that is weird and wonderful. They are far out, psychedelic. They have paid their dues a real rock n roll band. You think you know them because your familiar with some of their songs but there is so much more to them. I just can't get enough. I have had to re discover them through all their work.

Similar to "A Day in the Life", and "All You Need Is Love" (1967). Psychotic, psychedlic, top-of-the-line homages to go and get to the inside of your mind. The 1966-68 years had some outstanding songs, and peons to psychedelic music. So many classics of that era, it boggles the mind to recall how many there were! "Incense and Peppermints" (1967) by Strawberry Alarm Clock was one of my favorites!

I was very lucky when Brian came out of seclusion. After so many years he decided to kick off his tour in British Columbia Canada and I happen to be there sitting in a bar in the afternoon, and a fellow was reading a magazine, and I saw Brian Wilson live so I said when is that and the guy says oh that’s actually tonight so I called up my production friends at the river rock casino where I gamble a lot lol Arranged passes and tickets and immediately jumped in the taxi so we get to the show and it was absolutely brilliant performance. Brian sat on a barstool pretty much most of the night so he was comfortable and he had the most amazing back up singers mixed races I think two black ladies and two white fellows and they pulled off the harmonies to the point where if you close your eyes, you would swear the beach boys run stage truly amazing night. Thank you, Brian, and thank you to my buddy at the River rock Casino

One time my buddy got way too high in public at a movie theatre, and he felt exposed and scared and I didn’t know how to console him, but the only thing I knew was to get him away from strangers, sit in a car, and play good vibrations to attune the environment to meet his trip needs. And safe to say it blew his absolute mind to pieces in the best way. He’d either never heard the song OR he was so high that it sounded like some crazy new song. But he turned completely around. This song's been in my head for over a week. Mr. Brian's wife has just passed away. I'm a wee psychic, as Daphne said on tv's Frasier. The reason the song's dropped into my psychic psyche like a new hit, is because it's the prettiest song my sweet soul has ever heard. On another video of this song, they said that Sir Paul McCartney heard it and said, "how can we compete with this?" I'm gonna go jump in a lake now. Right off the dock, running at full speed, into Smith Lake in Alabama, in 1972, at my granddaddy's lake house. This song brought my childhood a lot of excitation. Those boys with their hair-raising harmony.

On this day in Music - 04 Nov 1966 The Beach Boys 'Good Vibrations', entered the UK chart and went on to be a UK & US No.1 hit single. As a child, Brian Wilson's mother told him that dogs could pick up "vibrations" from people, so that the dog would bark at "bad vibrations". Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.
