I didn't hear this album until just a few months ago. I listened to it while taking a walk and it instantly hooked me. It's a perfect mix of pop energy and just some overall quirky moments. The Night Was So Young is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs.

I adore this album, might be my favorite BB album. It’s almost like a Brian Wilson manic episode.

Can't play it as much as other BB albums. Kind of like SMILEY SMILE. But it's certainly a singular album. I think it could have been much stronger without a few of the tracks ("Love Is a Woman," "Let's Put Our Hearts Together," "Airplane.") There's a reason those were put at the end of the album. Glad it was made, but it's definitely an outlier! And this from someone who has always had every single thing Brian and the group have released, including the "Celebration" albums, "Looking Back With Love," and other oddities. I think some people want to like this album more than they actually do. I remember the first time I heard it. Got it the day it was released, and was in shock for the next couple of months! LOL!

I'll give you Let's Put Our Hearts Together and Airplane, but I will defend Love Is A Woman with my life. It's a wonderful song. The melody and chord progression are complex and catchy, the lyrics are cute, and the broad metaphor of equating love to another human being is a great message. If it weren't for The Night Was So Young, Love Is A Woman would take top spot in my song ranking. (Top five rounded out by Solar System, Johnny Carson, and ....a tie between I Want To Pick You Up and Mona. Honourable mention to Ding Dang, obviously.)

I consider this their best album of the 70's. I love Sunflower, Surf's Up and Holland, but this album hits on another level. Wish they put out Adult/Child next but they snuffed Brian's creativity in favor of safe, elevator music, dooming them for the next 40 years.

Aging funny. In 1977 I was 17y.o. Brian was 35 y.o. But I never thought of him as my dad's age. More as a peer.

#1 ALL artists fall into 1 of 2 categories - a) 1 or 2 worthwhile/essential albums, b) 4 or 5 TOPS! & then ... #2 the Beach Boys who had 10-14 quality/ *ESSENTIAL* albums! *No* other artist/group in history has that, Not 1! The Beach Boys output from Surfin Safari through Holland & Love You being the last essential... although m.i.u has its moments, other than that in '77 the BBs indirectly passed the torch to the Ramones. Period. Leave Home, then Love You then Rocket to russia was what substantiated the Renaissance of rockNroll aka the new wave of punkrock. All objective fact. 10-20 years later the Queers (Joe King) revived rockNroll 1 last time. 💯 🇺🇲🎼

This is the album the hip people like Peter Buck and Alex Chilton were into. Well, sometimes the hip guys are right. I love this album. I want a box set of this with new remixes and all that. I think it's their best since Friends. That said, it is kind of a Brian solo album.

It's funny because when I listen to albums like "Monster" by REM, I can hear Love You as an inspiration. There are so many albums that I can hear Love You in

@@jayvee5686 there's a a BW tribute album with Alex Chilton doing a version of "I wanna pick you up" that's worth listening to. Also has a French version of "Girl don't tell me". I forget what it was called.....it was on European label...cool stuff.

I love the songs, although it took a while to get used to Brian Wilson's voice. His singing was in pretty bad shape on this LP.

I’m so sorry but I don’t get the appeal of Love You. I am a diehard Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fan and this album I always found in the clearance/cut/bargain basement bin of every record store I ever went to without embellishment. The production is horrible and the lyrics are childish. My little brother could up with better lyrics.
