Over 50 years after its release his song still stands out as one of the most beautiful of the rock era. A fantastic job by the lead singer here and the remaining Beach Boys who sound wonderful. Harmony nonpareil.

I read in Mike Love’s book that the lyrics of this were written the night before John F. Kennedy’ assassination. Brian and Mike wrote it with the intention of describing the feeling of lost love and the after effect is leaves. Little did they know, the song would signify so much more meaning, Mike said that the guys could not stop thinking about Kennedy when this song was actually recorded on January 1, 1964. The song ended up symbolizing for them the loss of Kennedy and how he will always be remembered.

haunting tune... nice song
@Wolfsky92 жыл бұрын
Through the years, I've heard many singers attempt to do this gorgeous melody. Indeed, it is as haunting for the harmonies, as the melody itself. I love Vince Gill with BW's great band from 2001------Jeff Foskett from '82 -------Carl, from '74 ------and Papa Doo Run Run from their '85 album, " California Project " , did a gorgeous rendering of the song. The Wilson girls " The Wilsons", also did a sweet version . All that being said, anyone attempting to do this live , knows the challenge ; it is a very tricky melody , & only the best, can do it well. Scott Totten is one of those voices, & I give him great credit for this most worthy addition to the list. The song is gorgeous-------a Masterwork from the young Brian & Mike. ----------MJL
