As a Canadian who was listening to Loverboy in the 80s, and the Beaches in 2010+, I totally appreciate this. Nuff respect to the Beaches for knowing their heritage. Until recently, I was lived in the (Toronto) Beaches, like the band--you GO, GIRLS!!!

The camera cuts first to Kylie (guitar) and then Eliza (drums) immediately after Jordan hit that note. Kylie goes "duckface" and Eliza has a giant, slowly growing grin on her face... and in any of the live cuts of The Beaches I've seen, Eliza is usually stone-faced serious when she plays. Yeah, Jordan nailed that note good.

+1 though Reno 'Cries' when he sings, she is not doing this. The world badly needs a Loverboy tribute band, so many hits, they could corner the market. In terms of this song overall, the 'pizza' is under-cooked vs the original, I am not seeing negative comments, which 100% is the CBC's right to edit out, but it would be good to note missed guitar notes +how about giving the group a few more takes vs putting out this version with warts and all ?

I have to disagree (not that they didn't do great on this cover, they did). A cover should be whatever the artist feels or is inspired. Some of my favorite covers are very different than the originals and become something altogether different and in some cases even better. Think The Animals - House of the Rising Sun, Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower, RHCP - Havana Affair.

I think you're right in that I should have said that my own opinion of how to do a cover is to not re-interpret it. There absolutely have been some good covers that don't stick too close to the original.
