I’ve been sleeping in Seffi Atta ! I read “Everything good will come “ like 4 years ago I was just entrapped . 2 weeks later I bumped into “Swallow “ via Netflix , finished in 1 week ! I am ordering Bead Collector next !

Such an accurate review! I love Sefi Atta! It’s the way she’ll describe Yoruba aunties for me! Because I’m like, Aunty Sefi, this your character, I know her in real life. You should read Swallow and A Bit of Difference if you haven’t already!

I LOVE Sefi Atta. She was one of the first African writers I was introduced to when I was much younger and she’s still one of my favourites. Everything Good Will Come is a classic. I read it every year. I loved reading The Bead Collector too. Like you said, she has a great way of describing the Lagos elite so it’s like sweet tea for me. It was captivating enough for me to read in 2-3 sittings 💜

I enjoyed Everything Good Will Come, definitely one of my all time favorites. But the Bead Collector was mid for me. I enjoyed how Sefi wrote the Lagos elite but I feel like there wasn't enough of Francis and Remi for me to even consider them as friends and despite their conversations about the political situation in Nigeria I don't think Remi offered anything damaging or much to those conversations that Francis and her spy bosses could use 😅. I talked about it with my dad and he pointed out that it was a different time then so her feelings were not out of place, I guess didn't quite understand the situation around that time. Overall I preferred the side stories and drama to the parts with Francis 😆

I finished this today!! Sefi is so amazing. What you had to say about Sefi's political commentary is so apt. Loved the book, couldn't put it down until i finished. Thank you for the recommendation.
