Some people do this to string along others but the reason is unknown to me🤦 I remember on Craigslist I wanted to buy something for my apartment and the person was acting like the Defendant saying they would just give it to me since they didn't have barely to any replies...I thought it was a bit sus and ultimately think I dodged a bullet bcuz if it sounds too good to be true it most likely is

I’m so confused about how this situation even went this far. If you took a man’s deposit and then donated the car (yeah, right), you then refund the deposit. The defendant just got away with scamming someone out of $600, the show paid the settlement, and paid the defendant to be on the show. What a crock.

This is weird 🤨 he’s pressed for cash and needs to dump the car. He settles for $600 (for funeral expenses 😑) instead of taking a day to register it and collect the full $2000+ owed. Then he DONATES the car for FREE after getting the title instead of collecting the $1400+ balance owed by the plaintiff. Make it make sense 🙄

They won't. People are dumb. There is no good reason to buy a car without getting the title, unless you're buying it for parts. In that situation, you typically know there isn't a title. I've even seen people buy these types of cars on the cheap and use them on the track. You just have to tow it there. If you plan on DRIVING it, there's no reason to not get the title right then. They shouldn't be selling something they can't legally sell. Don't help them

Also, here in Canada, we do have a system for these kinds of situations. If both parties come into the DMV with valid drivers, they can explain to the DMV who can transfer the title from the prior owner to the buyer in one shot. Might have had to wait in line, but it would have saved him the cost of registration.

Naw, something ain’t right here. 🤔 How does the defendant go from wanting over $3000 for the car, to being willing to let the man have it for only $600? Either that car was stolen, or it was all a scam, and he never had any intentions of completing the sale to begin with. One thing’s for sure, if he really no longer has it, it’s definitely not because he “donated” it. If anything, he turned around and sold it to someone else.

Is it too hard to get the VIN and run it by DMV BEFORE you put down any money on a car you like?? Is it too hard to ask DMV if the title is *Clear* and who presently holds it ? Seller couldn't get title in his name. The car was HOT or a rebuilt (at a chop-shop) or something. Nothing the guy said makes sense. He's going to sell a $2000+ car for $600? Hardly. Plus, he said he still doesn't have title. So, the "donation" story is BS, too. Charities don't take cars without a good title certificate. My guess: Seller needed a fix. The car was bait.

Whether or not the deposit is refundable the Defendant breached the contract by not giving the car for the money he got. That was the agreement and he cancelled the deal behind the Plaintiff’s back with no intentions of completing the sale. That makes him a THIEF!!

In NYS, it takes about 6 weeks for the DMV to send you the vehicle's title. You don't just get it right there when you pay your money to register it but since you've paid, you can legally drive it. They are both idiots especially the buyer who took possession without clear title.

Defendant changed his mind about selling the car. He should have just given the deposit back, without having to be dragged into court. That wrong action leads people to believe the person is a dishonest liar. Did he really donate the car; or did he want to keep the car because he broke his agreement he sold the car for $600 cash with a forthcoming title? Reputation.

Even non-refundable deposits comes with a clause. The deposit is there to assure that the seller will hold the item in question for the buyer. As the buyer broke the agreement by pissing around and then getting rid of the car, even an iron-clad NRD document couldn't save him.

I bet, He needed cash to pay off the Owner he bought the car from in order to get the title himself !!! (using a funeral as an excuse for selling the car immediately after buying it) and once he paid the original owner , the owner then handed over the title in him, to put in his name… because why would his mama have to give him $$$ to pay the DMV for the title paperwork ?? 🙄🙄🙄🙄 when he just received $600 from this guy who wanted to buy it… because he handed that $600 to the original owner to pay off debt. Defendant probably got salvaged car for nothing but didn’t have title and couldn’t get title till he paid for it. So because he didn’t want to fork out money and he couldn’t get plaintiff to pay for title he sold car to some other shady guy and thought he could just keep plaintiff’s money. Plaintiff was lucky he didn’t buy car because it probably was just a polished turd just waiting to fall apart.
