My favourite episode of The Bear so far. I get the love everyone has for ep 6, but Ritchie's story arc across both series leading to this episode is just the best. Seeing him take the hit of rejection from Tiff in the middle of the episode ( the train drowning out his words gets me every time :( ) but then using that to find his purpose. So beautifully done.

I love the way that this episode flips the phrase "Every Second Counts." At the beginning of the episode "Every second counts" is like a Big Brother styled threat in how it demands second-to-second perfection. Chef Terry is this imposing figure we don't get to meet but who is apparently always watching. We eventually understand that the impressively high standards that the restaurant sets for itself are a result of the love that each staff member has for their craft as well as their community. In the same way that passion fuels purpose in the kitchen, we can discover our passions and allow it to shape our purpose. Time spent in discovery is not wasted. "Every second counts" is all about time well spent. I was also incredibly excited to see Bo Burnham 😂

I love how the final moment of this episode perfectly mirrors Chef Terry's own story: Terry, at the lowest point in her life, rounds the corner of a Chicago street and sees the sign. It's a literal sign that reads, "Restaurant for Lease." That is the moment she knew what path she would take in life. Richie, at the lowest point in his life, rounds the corner of a kitchen and sees the sign. It's a literal sign that reads, "Every Second Counts." That is the moment he knew what path he would take in life. Little details like that are why I love this show

2:37 Coach K's last name is pronounced Sha-Shev-ski. One of my favorite details of the episode is the key change in Taylor Swift's Love Story in this episode. It's symbolic of Richie's realization with Chef Terry that, "it's never too late to change." So much that they play the key change twice, once in the story, and the second time as the end credits start to roll.

coach k is the greatest college basketball coach of all time probably. for Duke.

And probably also one of the dirtiest. He somehow always seemed to have one disposable white kid on the team whose job it was to deliver hard fouls and cheap shots.

I've never heard the term "cold as a convenience store freezer" before but I'm gonna start using it.

Olivia Colman is awesome 😍 Have you seen Fleabag? I'm not sure if we proposed it for the vote on the future show to watch. You would love it: the psychology of the characters and the acting are so deep but it's very subtle and elegant, incredibly well done. So if you haven't seen Fleebag and if you love Olivia Coleman, just keep this series in mind for the near or distant future.
