A heart-warming story of how wild animals taught one broken man to be human...again.
Michael finds that the bonds he forges with the bears and other wild animals that live on his property in Emo, Ontario, helped heal his soul after a tragedy. His relationship with the animals put him on a path to love and redemption.

As a biologist, this is a hard watch for me. That is, training bears to depend on humans and then having subsequent generations of bears forego their natural life for one of dependency on this man and his handouts. Nevertheless, it is still a touching story. But, it will likely end in sadness someday. When he is gone and there is no one to collect donuts 4x per week…The bears will starve and perhaps by mistake hurt humans in their attempt to get fed.

Won’t it all end in sadness some day? Can the same not be said about the animals we chose to domesticate and call pets? Dogs can be extremely dangerous and capable or killing humans in the blink of an eye …I’d much rather live in a place where people are compassionate and take care of the world around them than our current predicament 😒

My stepfather did the same thing with my Black Lab, Smokey. Changed the way I thought from that day on. We lived on a pig farm. I remember getting up in the morning very early because the sows were having piglets. Sometimes they would roll over on their piglets, break a leg etc.. My stepfather carried a ball peen hammer with him. Some of the things you said really hit home with me. Memories I totally put in the back of my head 40 years ago. I now live in an apartment complex that we all call an animal sanctuary. Not quite bears and deers and all that beautiful wildlife you have there but dogs, cats mainly. My dog, Izzy(Yorkshire Terrier) and I are inseparable. I have a couple pet squirrels that come to my window and pull on my screen until they get my dog barking to let me know its time to feed them. This Documentary is amazing. Id never hurt an animal of any kind. The phrase " The more I know people the more I like my dog".. I know you know..Thank you for this video.

@@NU2UTX we have deer here too but about 10 miles away. When I was young I bought a salt lick with my money from mowing peoples yards. I put it out behind my house right at the edge of the treeline. Nobody knew it was there but me. Some nights just after dusk, and after quite a long time of it being there. There would be up to 10 or so deer at a time. Loved living in the country. I will again at some point. Apartment life isnt for me but it was all I could afford at the time and more importantly they allowed dogs, my best friend "Izzy".

I've been to little-used fishing lake areas and the birds and rabbits acted like this. Rabbits played with a piece of gravel and did not mind if we walked right up to them. Birds played a game flying under my husband's fishing line, over and over. So I understand that animals can not be afraid of humans sometimes. It kind of spooked my husband but I thought it was as it ought to be. He did not catch any fish. This has happened to me many times.

My father was a hunter and taught me to hunt. I tried to win his acceptance, but never did, and in that I turned to rebellion. Im over 80 now and still can't forgive myself for the animals I killed as a youth. Every day I see the animals I killed and the pain in my heart is worse than that which I feel in my body, which is considerable. I have been told I should learn to forgive myself, I think that ridicules as I believe the only forgiveness comes from God. I envy the life you live now, and I don't think envy is bad if the things you envy are good things to possess. I pray those who would harm animals could suffer the pain I have in my soul for having done that. As they would never again harm another. You are a very fortunate man with a lovely wife, I pray you will be able to continue on with what you do and pass it on to others. We were given this planet to be its stewards, and I feel shame when some people don't get that. There is so much more people need to do. My greatest wish is for humankind to please God by showing him how much we appreciate His gift and the beauty He created.

My heart has been wonderfully blessed and made happy to read about Michael’s life story. What a blessing to learn how our Heavenly Father lead him to find his calling of rescuing and caring for animals needing it and to let him find love with a partner who shares what has become his passion. I just found myself raising my hands and shouting hallelujahs as I read on. I was touched by the entry in his diary about skywalker the eagle whom he knew and cared for only a few days, only to have him pass away just after seemingly being on the mend one day before.

I hope they have contingency plans in place for when they can’t do this anymore because those bears will tear them, their house and the town apart if there’s no one to feed them. They’ll be looking for food. So if these two get sick or too old, those bears will become a threat. But I get what he’s doing and why - it’s good for him. Not too sure about the bears though.

@@diggahrockhounder6428 it’s funny I teach english in Europe, American English and British (original) English. I often work with Americans and so many little things are different. But this makes me laugh cause to most of the world it means your saying he is fake. Here is wiki “Crocodile tears is a false, insincere display of emotion such as a hypocrite crying fake tears of grief.” The saying works because crocs/alligators can not cry, so it means false. Maybe ask some old people and see what they say. I love Canada it’s like the uks cousin

Thankyou for your wonderful and amazing testimony. It's incredible the ways God gets our attention, yours through the animals and mine through breast cancer. May God bless you and the wonderful work you do there. I love the name of your sanctuary, Isaiah 11, and the verses that inspired you. Here I have quite a variety of birds that give me such joy. Blessings from 🇦🇺

Being from Ontario I can tell you the only thing that will save you from a bear attack is a cowboy hat with more accessories than a Christmas tree. The Indians used to have a taxidermy rattlesnake, three foxtails, and a dozen rabbit feet hanging from their hats to ward off bears.

I had to stop one from getting in my car at our local dump ground. I left my car door open & was unloading garbage. Here come 2 year-old cubs. One started getting in my car. I yelled at him & he backed off a little, then started in again. All I had was a big piece of cardboard in the trunk that I was going to throw out. I waved it at him and yelled. The cardboard scared him. He probably hadn't seen something like that yet. That was the only thing that saved my car interior. 😂😂😂

@@spiderreed350 If you mean my comment? It was meant in good humor. And no most 2 year old bear cubs can't do much harm to a human...but a nice pristine car? Depends.....if they are wearing them.

This is beautiful. Man is taking over nature and has a duty to provide. Instead of being a complainer, why not inquire about what trees and plants are indigenous to this area that animals eat and donate it.
