I am sorry, but this show really needed to have a better story arc. It was clearly a setup for the next season and that is not what you do. I really like this show because it is more about real people than most shows, but this episode was kinds of frustrating.

@MattandJessTV yes. If I have to wait a year, that is too much. It still was not the best season because it barely had a plot besides like the confrontation with the bad chef. Everything else was a bunch of open-ended questions that I won't even remember in six months. The way they didn't show Claire until episode 9 and never with cam doesn't work. The way we don't know what Sydney is going to do doesn't work. They didn't really show the review, except i guess it was mixed. They opened too many plot points and resolved none of the important ones. It won't make this season good, but more episodes, at least would help me move past these frustrating episodes.

Forks is the best episode of tv ever. Season 3 episode 1 is great. The John Cena episode was stupid. He wasn’t needed at all and completely ridiculous. Jamie Lee Curtis might win an Emmy for her scene at the hospital with Sugar. That was so good and healing for both of them. The confrontation with Carmy and David was so amazing. David’s compliment was so needed to help Carmy push forward but shell shocking for Carmy to absorb off the surface of it. I hate that we don’t fully know what the review says considering that the fate of the restaurant is in the balance. Will Claire and Carmy reconcile? I hope people from Chef Terry’s restaurant come over to help the restaurant? Chef’s kiss for Will Guidara to have a guest spot in episode 10 considering he ran the top restaurant in the entire world in real life.

The chef Joel character is like drill sergeants and old school coaches. Very old school. I kinda hope Syd leaves but doubt it for the show. She has to talk to Carmy and get him to calm down. Maybe the retiring chef will help him get perspective. Faks were there to keep it in the comedy category 😂although over the line talking to Claire. My favorite episode was the birth one. Anytime! We love covering this show :) I saw in an article that Joel's charater is based on a real life chef (I can't remember the name of that particular chef). I thought the Fak's talking to claire was way over the line. Everyone pushing Carmy into a relationship with claire since that christmas dinner has been over the line. he said clearly she is not someone he wanted to be with all the way back then. The show needed to show that Carmy was interested in her on his own and not because everyone, including claire, pushed him into it. - Jess

@@marissasabatino7538 Claire is the worst, if they are going to give him a love interest they have to make it that Carmy seems to want to be there. Good season with some great episodes, but still the weakest of the 3 seasons for me. Missteps imo included - too much of the Fak brothers (funny in small doses in previous seasons, but manic and annoying this season), John Cena (seriously wtf was his character 😂), the Claire story/non-storyline, too many celebrity chef scenes in the show (especially in the last episode)..and just overall not as compelling a storyline as season 1 & 2

Last night on KZbin that was posted 5 days ago (17:43 mins), I watched Jimmy Fallon consecutively interviewed Jeremy Allen White, then Ayo Edebiri and lastly, fellow Torontonian Matty Matheson. In Ayo's portion of the interview, I was shocked after Ayo confirmed that S03E06 (Napkins) was the episode she had her directorial debut. This is my favourite episode of this season (had me teared up), which told the sad background story of Tina Marrero & during her initial encountering with Michael Berzatto who hired her after she stumbled into The Bear. 👏👍👏

@@MattandJessTV it's my fave for Season 3 but my favourites were the episodes when Ritchie went to the other restaurant to learn the proper dining management & also when they opened up The Bear for a trial run (when Carmy got stuck in the freezer). I disliked Carmy in this season b/c he's being a control freak having his hands in everyone's section of responsibility. Basically, he's messing everything up with his unhappiness in which he's seeking for unreachable perfection.

The Chef David confrontation was interesting. Reminded me of Whiplash. Do the ends (being a great chef) justify the means? Also reminded me of an episode of Atlanta where a character named Teddy used the same reasoning for bad behavior and used Michael Jackson's father's harsh treatment of his kids, Serena and Venus Williams's father's harshness, Beyonce's father...would they be who they are if their mentors weren't who they are. Yes it's so true, great comparisons! Nothing Carmy said about how he really feels about david got through to david at all and I think that when the review came in that it was positive and glowing and he was swearing like that because he felt that David was right. - Jess

I do like Season 2 was my fave too but there are parts in the other seasons too. I like Tina's background story in this season. I'd also like to eat at one of Matty Matheson's real life restaurants one day in the near future. Plus, Matty & Ricky's characters make the funny part of the show b/c we all have silly friends within our group of friends like those two.

Season 2 was incredible, it really was! Tina's episode this season was so good, it really hit me right in my feelings and I feel like there's a lot of people that can relate to that story. hahaha it's true, we all have a Fak in our friend group LOL! @@MattandJessTV I think for saving Sydney's sanity & her mental health being, it's absolutely necessary for her to leave. But with her knowing that Carmy already lost Claire, then with her leaving for this other job, those might be the burdens that broke the camel's back for Carmy. So if Sydney leaves, can she move on & succeed while living with her guilt & can Carmy survive after losing Claire & now Sydney? Those conflicts make it difficult for me to answer your question, Jess. What do you think Sydney will do? 🤔

@@Gemstar_70 I totally agree, i think Sydney needs to leave for all the reasons you said as well as for her to have a chance to actually shine as a chef. Where she is it'll always be just Carmy, if she leaves she has a chance to make her own mark and have other chefs lift her work up. I think that's why she breaks down at the end... she's accepting that she has to leave and is hurting to leave all the great people behind as well as all the work she put in behind. - Jess

@@MattandJessTV I forgot about Sydney's breakdown at the end. Your depiction for the cause of her breakdown is so spot on! Gosh, I'd hate to be put in her position b/c no matter which choice she picks, from the many other difficult choices, Sydney is bound to her guilt & shame which are making her feel that she'll hurt either Carmy, her work family, The Bear's legacy that she helped rebuilt from the ground up, but whether she stays or leaves, Sydney is bound to hurt herself most of all! This is so sad when all she wanted to pursue was her desire to become a distinctively astounding Chef, not to receive recognitions from anyone but it is for her to merely achieve her own self-accomplishments! 💔😢

The show just needed to show that Carmy wanted this relationship. But it was presented that his friends and family forced her on him for years and then when he gave her the fake number cause he didn't want to date her she pushed herself on him. If the show actually showed me that he wanted to be with her before they were together I'd buy into it more. Also Claire is just there to prop up anything Carmy wants, there's no other substance to her. - Jess

Matt and Jess i think Carmy needs the top chef challenge of making 3 courses by utilizing the snack vending machine ha ha one of the greatest tv episodes of Top Chef ever. I did my best with trying too binge this seasons episodes. i feel asleep shortly after sugar and the hospital scene. i had such high hopes for the return of this season i guess my expectations were too high. Something in the secret sauce has changed for me. btw do you know if the tv show has published a book for the recipes in the show

LOL! yes he does! Clearly he needs to think outside the box to shake things up with his cooking style. Like he did in that first episode where he took a chance and served Sydney that meal and it turned out to be the best meal she ever had in her life. I think binging it takes away something from the secret sauce for me with this show. it's too intense to just watch episode after episode and I really wish they would just put these out one or two a week. I don't know if they did put out a book of recipes from the show, but if they do I'd love to have it. - Jess

I really liked season 3 a lot, but I felt like it didn't really move the needle for Carmy. He never dealt with the fall out from claire, he never really dealt with the fall out from richie either. It was good to see him face chef david, but Carmy just felt like he was spinning in the same place and ended this season in the same place. Sydney had a solid story tho and I loved Tina's episode. - Jess

Overall a fantastic season- not sure if I would say season 2 or season 3 is better (but only b/c they were both great). I didn't like the finale episode as much as the two of you did - I didn't hate it, and there were moments that I really liked. I liked the scene w/ Oliver Platt and Carmy talking about Mikey. I liked Sydney in this episode. I liked Carmy confronting David the DB. I didn't get as excited about all the celebrity chefs. I'm with you, Jess, on Claire. But Overall such a great season. Loved Tina's episode. Agree with you on wishing they dropped the episodes more slowly - this show is absolutely NOT a comedy and it's intense and very emotional at times (with a few laughs here and there), so it's a lot to watch the episodes all at once. I have one hot take....I understand Sydney's struggle to make this decision....but does no one think she is being a little unfair to the whole crew (b/c they ALL are putting their heart and soul on the line for this restaurant) to drag out this decision like this? If she up and leaves, she is leaving them with a big hole to fill when they're just up and running and still not solid om whether they are going to make it

Im on episode 4 right now But all im seeing is Carmen spiraling over Claire Also you can't keep changing a menu into a new Start for a restaurant clearly they will not make money You need @ least year before you start doing that So far Carmen is like his mother in a lot of ways and setting himself up for failure

I loathed Syndrome (Sydney) last 2 seasons but this season she mange not to annoy me but Carmy who I loved really annoyed me this season. Changing menu feels so stupid to me I'm the kind of person who orders the same thing again and again if I went back to a whole different menu I'd be annoyed I thought ice chips was the best episode loved Sugar and her mum having thire own episode. I think Donna is bi pola. I wasn't a big fan of that first episode

I don't htink Donna is bipolar, I think she has severe trauma she hasn't dealt with and it's caused this. I really liked the episode with donna and sugar, but it was a bit too long. She almost a twin of how my mom acts and she’s not bipolar, but she acts like this from severe trauma and Donna with what happened with her husband and Mikey it feels like it could be the same. I really don’t know. Maybe they might address it next season?? - Jess
