I used an Ai Program called Deoldify to help make this video. All in all, most of the colorization looks pretty good in my opinion, aside from a few hiccups here or there. I was planning on doing Half Human (1955) before making this video, but I have not been able to find a good copy of the film (and I do not wish to have a repeat of my Varan video), so to the user who requested Half Human, I do apologize, I will try to get to Half Human whenever I can find a good copy of the film.
I must say, Beast From 20,000 Fathoms is truly breathtaking sometimes with the stop motion effects... even in today's age of films with all the CGI and suitmation, this film still wowed me at several points. To think this came out a year before Godzilla.
I plan on doing another classic film next, one of the big rivals to Godzilla in the 60's and 70's (hint, hint).

Ray Harryhausen was a true artist. With just stop motion and a tiny budget, he made scenes that looked like a giant epic Hollywood blockbuster. I'll bet Warner Brothers would have given him a bigger budget if they had known that "The Beast" would be a huge hit.

@@simbiotesnus1013 a 7 times gross and providing the green light for two other big Warner monster films isn't just paying off at the box office. Godzilla [the other film you're talking about] didn't become a hit in the US market until way after its initial release. It also had the benefit of decades of sequels the majority of which didn't even get US releases. Of course Gojira was a hit in Japan...but so was this film.

Agreed! They look great. I don't know why some are so put off. I also like the versions which smooth out the strobing of motions and add motion blur. To me, it doesn't detract, because it's barely noticeable, it enhances what the artist did without replacing it.

While the animation may be smoother and the models more detailed in the 2010 film, the cgi performance falls flat in the face of the 1981 film. 😄 Hell, even the Kraken's *_tail_* had more personality as it caused the tidal wave that destroyed Argos early on in that film.

One of my favorite stories from the production of the film is one Ray Bradbury told. (Anyone else think fate has a funny sense of humor that the two best friends would have the same first name) Since Harryhausen, a good friend, was working on the film, he told Bradbury that the producer needed help rewriting the script. Well incidentally, the producers had taken Bradbury‘s work from the Saturday evening post, never asked the author for permission to make it into a movie, and then had brought him in to rewrite the plagiarized script. Being the gentleman that he was, Bradbury didn’t need to say anything, only that the story sounded a lot like one he had written. And then the next day, there was a telegram asking for permission to buy the rights. (so don’t tell me when an unknown author claims that a big studio has stolen their work, that is just coincidence or that they are lying)
