Previous owner took VERY GOOD care of it. Very rare to see the older 500's in near mint condition. hopefully he did better than average maintenance too. Looks are one thing, mechanical beauty is another. Mine is an 01 500 HO and also in near perfect condition. Amsoil lubricants throughout since day one. I'm a maintenance freak. At $1,100.00 YOU definitely got a garage queen steal.

It's been 5 years, is it still running?
@jrminate Жыл бұрын
I have a 2013 500 ho that I got for $950 couple weeks back.. It ran when I got it and engine, trans, front diff were all good too, I got lucky on that. The bad is that it had been sitting outside for years and looked like it wasn't washed or cleaned in 2 years. The atv was in rough shape like the plastics, seat, cv axles boots all torn (rear cv axles would clank). I put less than 1 mile on it putting in the back yard at 5-10 mph, then started buying parts. It ran decent when I got it, but had inconsistent idle. For people that buys a newer one of these 2008-2013 carb model and has idle / bogging issue at high rpm read more this may help you.. Intake to carb elbow had a crack so I replaced it. Cut 1/4 inch off spark plug wire and twisted it back on the boot. Seems like it still had some kind of air leak somewhere or vacuum leak. All hoses were good, but... At the airbox itself there is a drain tube at the bottom that is SUPPOSED to have a plug in it, mine was missing.. I folded and bent the tube over and put a heavy duty zip tie on it to plug it. Now it runs much better at 95%. On the older 500's they had cam problems and that could be your issue though.. Still haven't changed spark plug or looked inside of carb, but probably won't as it runs good. I put new cv axles on it on all 4 corners. The old rear cv axles literally fell apart on its own when I took off the wheel hubs.. I didn't even pull on the rear axles. The cups were also seized in the rear lol. What a nightmare. The fronts are super easy. I got all the hard stuff done now. Just waiting to order a seat and seat bracket, will buff and polish all the plastics, and may use some tractor paint on the black frame to make it look new. The nice thing is I will only have like $1400 total in the atv ( not including my time ) and I can sell it for $4000 - $4500 around here quick.. It has around 1500 miles and 200 hours. People out in the country love them polaris. I said I would never own one, but bought it to fix it and sell in the summer to get top dollar. The around 2008-2013 sportsman 500 are actually pretty solid units though after I did some research. They still have the cheap wheel bearings, bad suspension / bushing components that wear fast and such as all polaris do. Besides that the engine, trans and diff are solid in these 500's. These 500's, Polaris didn't even make 90% of what is on the machine. Fuji makes the engine and hilliard makes the front diff, not sure who makes the trans in these, they use a japan carb, japan cdi, some misc components are overseas. All in all These older machines were better components than the new Polaris vehicles IMO. I wouldn't buy a new Polaris anything, the quality has went down on components.

Its the all wheel drive it does that sending power back and forth while you ride. It works differently from any other 4x4 atv. Nothing wrong with it thats just how it works .

The 500 H.O. cam bolts right up to it, it made so much more power afterwards, mine felt like it had a rev limiter in it at top speed before, after the cam swap, that went away too. I would definitely recommend an h.o. cam swap on one if it doesnt have one, itll spin tires with no brakes on and slide the rear end sideways if you aint careful, gets up to speed quick with lots of torque. I done the cam swap,a jet kit in the carb,and a k&n intake. Another issue was fixing the smallest exhaust leaks made a huge difference in power as well.

I’ve really tried to figure out what i could replace it with that would improve my life and make it better..? the yellow button is NOT overdrive, it's on demand 4x4 mode, you can leave it on because polaris designed the system to act like a 2wd (for easier steering) until it senses wheel spin and it engages the front wheels. that's a good quad and you got a good deal, it's a keeper like your girlfriend lol. Also the winch should have a dial or lever on it somewhere to disengage the spool (freewheel), the dial on the rack should be closer to the handle bars for access while sitting on the quad, it keeps shutting off is a safety feature.
