People today have no idea how distinctive a singing voice Esther Phillips had. She had two hits in the early 70s "That's Alright With Me, Home Is Where The Hatred Is" which were later sampled by hip hop artists such as Mobb Deep and ĹL Cool J

The Beatles loved Esther's cover so much, they flew her to England to sing it on their TV Special "Around the Beatles" (at least think that's what it was called)

I was so excited to see the amazing Etta James was on this fantastic show full of great live performances... but truth be told hers was lip synced, not live :-( , though still a treat to listen to.
