Congratulations! I really enjoyed hearing you talk about the sound of all the Abbey Road albums. I enjoy the mofi pressing as well. I need to test the new Giles Martin version against the mobile fidelity to decide which copy I prefer. Thanks and have a great day.

Maybe I need to revisit the MoFi Abbey Road. The last time I listened to it, I was not really impressed all that much. To my ears it sounded quite a bit better than the original US copies, but it didn’t touch the older British and German pressings. I have also heard the MoFi White Album and With the Beatles, and I was pretty surprised by the quality of the White Album. Very nice highs, good bass and a great soundstage. With the Beatles was pretty good. It had a very wide soundstage, but it didn’t blow me away. So I have no doubt that they did good job on the Abbey Road. However, I do have a high regard for your opinion, and especially your opinion on Beatles records. I think I’m just gonna buy the MoFi Abbey Road the next time I see it, and see what you’re talking about. Maybe I originally went into it with some bias when I first heard it. I trust you on this one.

MFSL unfortunately because of upper management used the smiley face eq boosting the highs and the lows. What that did is suck all the midrange out of the album!! I recently did a shootout, and my UK first press sounded best.

12:20 I'm uncertain whether I have a first or maybe a 1st, 2nd or 3rd press UK. I do know that it has a big portion of the sewer exposed and it doesn't have her majesty on the back so I suppose that would mean that it's an early copy and it is pretty awesome. I have an odd French export pressing as well from early 70s. It was meant for the UK market but I guess their pressing plants were not available. I did some research on discogs.

13:50 awesome I'm intrigued that you listened to that brand new 70s copy. I'm sure that was fun. I've opened a couple of sealed vintage albums and it was cool to listen to. "Tangerine dream Zeit " UK mid 70s reissue was the best one.

MoFi used the same US Capitol submaster as the original US release. They did not use the original 1969 UK EMI master that the The Beatles and George Martin approved. The US Capitol submaster is inferior and "Come Together" and "Something" sounds muffled on the MOFi album. The original UK and German pressings sounds far superior to MoFi.

I do like this pressing. But I prefer the German DMM pressing from 1985.

You forgot to mention one of the most, if not the most important feature of the MFSL pressing, it's the 1/2 Speed Mastering process! There is also some pressing from Germany back in the day that were "DMM", Direct Metal Master. Some say they are the best pressings!

Congratulations and much health and happiness to both of you. I have an original US pressing of Abbey Road and a 1995 reissue with the apple on a light background. I like the sound on both, but I've never heard the UK or the Mobile Fidelity pressings.

Hi ! First of all: congratulations again! I follow you on Instagram and on some of the photos i noticed that you have Bruce spizer book " Beatles for sale on parlophone records" i have It too. What a fantástic book! And talking about abbey Road and talking about Bruce spizer, i fully recommend his new book "get back at abbey Road" which talks specificaly about abbey Road and It was published the same day as the 50th anniversary box set. It is a fantástic book that put you in the context of 1969. Bye!

After listening to the original -2/-1 UK Abbey Road a *lot* ... I put on the MFSL version and, honestly, the bass boost really ruins it for me. And the boosted base ends muddying the entire sound. But it's hard to imagine any version beating the UK original. So, yeah, a dissenting opinion :)

2014 stereo pressing, cut from the tapes and on quiet vinyl
@bwithrow011 Жыл бұрын
MFSL half speed mastered their LPs. They ran the original master tape and the cutting lathe at half speed to give the cutting stylus more time to cut the lacquer. They sent the lacquers to JVC in Japan who pressed into virgin Super Vinyl.

As far as vinyl records of Abbey Road ive heard the mofi and 1995 US press. The first version i ever heard was my dads mofi pressing and it sounds pretty good a little bright but it could be my sound set up. Recently picked up a VG ++ Nm mofi copy for myself. A year ago saw one at my local record shop. I have been eye balling other Beatles mofis but they are pricey so I'll be buying the remixed album of White Album and Let It Be when that is released. The remix of Abbey Road sounds fantastic.

What about the 1979 Abbey Road out of blue box 14. Think that's a pretty good one. Also any sound differences on American originals with/without her majesty listed? Also early outer sleeve covers with pictures of street utility box showing on bottom of the road. Same mix or ...

I bought the MoFI after seeing your review on it. I have to say that this MoFi press sounds terrible... YES it is presented nicely, with a booklet and the record itself has great quality with no background noise but it just doesn't sound good... the mix is so dull, and the kick drum you mention on Maxwell's Silver Hammer... I'm sorry but it's just not there as you described it haha. I have a mint copy from 1979... am I missing something? Comparing this MoFi with the 2009 digital it's nowhere near that and comparing it with Giles' anniversary mix (which imo it's purely the best) it stands way below it....
@BrianBringelson3 жыл бұрын
A. Not sure what you mean by “the mix is dull” considering this is the exact (and only) 1969 stereo mix. B. There’s a chance you picked up a sub par pressing. They do vary between each other much more than you would think C. I hope you didn’t pay too much for it D. I still really like that MoFi pressing and so do many other. But to each their own.

Ain’t got no mids. I actually kind of really like the 2019 mix
@BrianBringelson4 жыл бұрын
That does seem to be the main complaint against it, but to be honest I don't get that from this particular pressing or the others I have/had. I think because the highs and lows are so rich, it almost creates a false sense of a lack of mids, but like i said I just don't get that when I compare it to other pressings. Of course everyone has their own taste in sound so I do respect your opinion on it. And yes I really like the 2019 mix as well, it just will never replace the original 1969 mix in my book.
