Don't know what it's worth but, I own an Australian release of The Beatles "White Album" on White Vinyl! A needle has never touched it. Also includes a picture of each member. I purchased it in the early 90's. Any information on what I have?
@AnalogPlanet2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the "shout out"! I got to go to Abbey Road to watch them cut the mono edition of "The Beatles" (the "White Album") and hold the master tapes in my hands. Quite a thrill. An Abbey Road rep had called to invite me over to watch. A few points: Geoff Emerick brought the master tape of "Sgt. Peppers..." to Masterdisk in NYC for a potential 30th anniversary CD reissue (Greg Calbi had moved from Sterling to Masterdisk for a short time and he's Paul's favorite mastering engineer) in 1997 but it never happened. I helped them get a Studer deck like the one used to master the original LP and my "gift" was to get to hear the tape and talk with Geoff. I also brought the Mobile Fidelity version of "Sgt. Peppers..." and played it for Emerick who declared it "rubbish" because of the "smiley face" EQ. More recently I lobbied Apple Corps' President Jeff Jones about re-pressing the mono box and about a "UHQR" type all-tube AAA stereo cut of "Sgt. Peppers"... but he was not at all interested for reasons I won't discuss here, but I'll keep trying. You didn't mention the Japanese red Odeon mono releases from 1982. They are very good but the mono box now out of print is sonically better.

Thanks for chiming in Michael and sharing those stories. A couple I think I’ve heard from you before but some new bits. I know of and have heard the Red Japanese set but it’s one I don’t have. Just passed me by. 8 years since the mono box is like a lifetime now in terms of the vinyl revival so hopping Jeff and the Fabs see the light. Personally I’d love an all new analogue stereo box. Side one of Help is not good in mono and Beatles For Sale is better in stereo. One man’s opinion. I tried to be calm and less snarky making this video as sometimes I share that Jewish shtick style with you 🤠✌🏼

Absolutely 100% behind you (and Michael) on this. An all analogue re-release of the mono box set or even better an all analogue remastered stereo box set of all their albums, cut by Bernie Grundman/ Kevin Gray would be a dream release. Even if they just started with individual releases, I would be super happy. But don't spread the campaign over too many years, some of us aren't that young.

Please Please Us! Yes, we need this. When I started getting more into vinyl in 2017-18 I was not aware that the Mono Box was poised to first, get rare and then quite expensive, and then disappear. It was one reason I wanted to collect vinyl, but even then it was on a special shelf and $400+. I just didn't know how modern vinyl releases worked yet really and never expected this. Aside from my vintage pickups and existing hand me downs, I only have been able to find a single new all analog Beatles album, Revolver - Mono release. I would have many more if available. Why not repress and release them individually too and give people a chance to buy them for a reasonable price. Sure make both boxes too, but you don't need as many. Realistically, people will get Hard Days Night, Help, Please Please me and Magical Mystery Tour before they get Beatles for Sale, Yellow Submarine and With the Beatles. Sad, but realistic. Also, demand would be a smidge lower for Sgt. Peppers and White Album given their recent well made (albeit not analog) releases. My dream - All analog Rubber Soul set with both UK and US versions, cut by BG, CB, KG, or RKS.

Completely agreed on every front here. The ONLY reason the mono records (specifically Please Please Me, With The Beatles, A Hard Days Night & Rubber Soul) sound better than stereo is because of the hard left right panning with vocal on one side, instruments on the other on the stereo mixes of those. If not for that, the stereo cuts blow away the mono cuts on every level, every time. Beatles For Sale is probably their best sounding stereo record. Mono Pepper is a muffled, disappointing experience as is mono Revolver and mono White Album. HELP is brutal in mono. Listen to the 1999 remixed Yellow Sub to see how glorious the Rubber Soul stereo tracks sound when the vocals are placed in the middle! (Nowhere Man & Think For Yourself). All they need to do is fix the vocal mix and place them in the center, on every record. Here's to hoping!!!

Agree 💯. I have both boxes and the BC-13. But yeah can you imagine what Bernie Grundman can do with those Beatles tapes before they dissolve in the vault. It's honestly rediculous and not sure why they have to keep everything in house. On the 2014 Mono Box It would be easy to do a repress on the mono as the plates are still at Optimal with the negative files for those amazing mono covers. But change it up, and loose the book or reduce it. Or if Apple doesn't want to do these in a box, then just repress individual titles so they get out there for all the new fans. It's a shame artists and labels take the easy way out and press a record from a completed hi res digital file so they can cash grab with zero effort. It's time Apple, the clock is ticking and it's time get going. Always love your videos!

Mono box or stereo box, either would be very welcome. Not everyone knows what mono is and some others have the mono box already, so I can definitely see the appeal of a stereo box just as much as the mono box getting a repress. It’s a huge void in the resurgence vinyl is going through, even just since 2014. Different planet now vs then. So many 50s jazz records getting reissued AAA but no beatles? Seriously? If $125 single LPs can sell out in a couple months or weeks, a box set for a couple hundred bucks with some of the most loved music of all time will sell.

Mazzy!!! Your passion is awesome. However, you may not remember me but I'm the guy who loves Elton John's Blue Moves and I know you hate it. This goes way back on the Hoffman forum during the EJ reissue campaign. You were always so funny. So, knowing you know that I love an album that you despise may not make you respect my opinion on the Beatles. Why do you "think" an all out analogue stereo box will be beneficial?? Better sound?? You just said the only reason the black box was flawed was due to an inferior pressing plant. Ok, so lets go with that....I bet you have numerous Beatles' presses that duck press wise but sound absolutely amazing. Soooooo whats wrong with the black box??? Nothing apparently. Go youre saying you want Bernie or Kevin to remaster and/or cut it?? What if youre not satisfied?? You have a Blue stereo box that you're raving about....alll analogue....you never said once it sounds better than the blck box so why analog?? What if they remastered from the analog tape then cut digitally??? Which is standard practice these days. Would you be cool with that?? Hope all is well with you. Darrin (Hamilton, Ontario Canada)
@rhessex2 жыл бұрын
Can someone explain to me why it is necessary to go back to the tapes at all. Why can't you use the original moulds (not sure of correct term) that were used to press the records from without having to recut a new one from the tapes? Aren't they kept or do they wear out? BTW I think a slimline mono box would be great.
@mazzysmusic2 жыл бұрын
The mono Los could probably be pressed as I assume the metal work is still available. I think the stereo would have to go back to the tapes because analogue stereo haven’t been done since the mid 1980s I think.

Ha. Chris Bellman. Slipped. Well they did do the mono 8 years ago so not the last. But not in today’s vinyl buying world.

I bought all the Beatles albums as they came out in the 70's. Aren't they analog?
@mazzysmusic2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are. But were they the US or the UK versions ? I grew up with the US versions but they have different configurations up until Pepper and are different mixes, some with added reverb on their early albums.

They are but in my case, I have US versions that are missing tracks that are on the UK versions. So to get analog copies with the proper tracklist, my choice was to track down UK copies or the 2014 mono analog reissues. Both expensive endeavors

How about american/capitol mono and stereo records?
@mazzysmusic2 жыл бұрын
I think that ship has sailed. First there should be analogue editions of all the records they originally released in the UK..

You know the last 2 Beatles left alive are on mushrooms and osley_lsd-25 most of the time. Right?

Agreed but these box sets are too expensive for the average collector. Release affordable analogue copies individually and not in limited editions . Keep them available for all time. ✌

Individually is fine too ✌🏼

Haha. .save your breath. I doubt it will get done. What for? They are selling the current copies just fine....and in reality us audiophile people are the minority compared to the general public. Would I like to have an all analog version of the albums in stereo? Sure. ..we at least got the mono...and they wont do those again after the struggle to sell them initially. See your thinking from a collector perspective. .but not a business perspective. Oh and yeah the master tapes are not the "Dead sea scrolls" but they are old and have been used far more then the mono tapes. ..so chances are the only usable version are the digital conversions. Again ...I'm not against it I'm just being a realist. Mark Anthony K

But other labels which are a part of UMG have found d big profits in all analog jazz issues today. Same with Warners and Rhino and Neil Young. Craft too. There is a segment of buyers who will pay a premium for an all analog option just look at those $125 UHQR and One Steps selling out at 25,000 copies
@markkopernicky34892 жыл бұрын
That's all true...but jazz people I find are of a different mind then Rock and pop people. Most of them couldn't give a toss about audiophile quality. They just buy what they like and thats it...I have tons of rock friends who shake their heads at me for paying what I do for good pressings of albums. They just buy a record new regardless of who made it. I think these labels are aware of that. ..and these specialty labels know as well...that's why they charge 125.00 for a record...it wouldn't make sense to sell for less. ..its not that big a market. 25,000 copies is good...but labels are looking for bigger numbers then that.
