The real.mono.box, probably ain't coming out for another ten years. And because the desirability, they're gunna make all these wild claims, and re re redoing everything. From using the source tapes, cleaning them again, repairing them, mixing mastering cutting producing stamping etc etc, and the box will be like a thousand bucks. Cuz nobody cared about the mono box that much when it came out, but now in terms of non specific collectable stuff,as far as basic store produced stuff, it's like the most expensive valued music in their catalogue of release sku's

I get why and what Mike's getting at. There are a ton of Beatles collectors that are not audiophiles. I'd say most aren't. People tend to forget the 2014 mono set sat in stores for a long time. If this is successful - it tells Apple - hey, maybe we should go back to the UK tapes again? Especially if they keep hearing that we want them over and over. They could have at least given us a book with the box price though.

I expect that Apple will continue to include the mono mixes in the remix box sets as they did with Revolver. There's no incentive for them to put out an analog box of either the stereo or mono albums. We might see those when they finish with the remix project.

I played the Capitol mono CDs from 2004 and 2006 last night. The mono mixes aren’t nearly as bad as people have told themselves. They didn’t juice up the reverb as much on the mono albums as they did on the stereo albums. I think that might be why they decided to go for mono on these reissues. They have that Capitol sound without going overboard. Truth be told, they are fun to listen to. And since the mono versions have been OOP on vinyl since the 60s, many people who bought the Capitol albums in the 70s and 80s never heard the monos. I was initially not that interested in these reissues, but I might pick up some of the individual titles.

I wish they would re-press "The Beatles In Mono" box set. That is such a great set. I have the CDs, but would really love to have the vinyl. I'm not willing to pay $1500 for a copy through Discogs or another platform.

Many 2 channel releases from mono recordings used band filtering to create two channels out of the mono. They would use simple frequency band filters to separate the extreme lows, mid bass, mids, mid highs and highs, 5 freque3ncy bands, and put the extreme low, mids and highs on one side and the mid bass and mid highs on the other.

I have two copies of the 2014 Mono box set. BUT... this upcoming set are the albums I bought when I was 12 yrs old, but those copies are long gone. So, I have my pre order in and I cant wait to revisit my discovery of Beatlemania. It was magical back then, hopefully it will be when I pull the plastic off of this set.

Hi Mike. UK Beatles collector here with a full(ish) run of UK originals. I don’t have any of the US albums but I have ordered 2 out of curiosity: A Hard Day’s Night (like the cover and it has some incidental music not available elsewhere -more of a true soundtrack album than the studio record of the same name) and The Beatles Second Album (love the track listing and I understand it contains a handful of alternative mixes). Didn’t want the box set, it would just sit on the shelf looking at me! But a couple of really nicely done US versions, hopefully with authenticity produced jackets and great sound, will do nicely and £60 well spent. Greetings from London

As a UK fan I’m really looking forward to this, I have ordered the box set. The capitol albums are a rare sight in the U.K. so this is great for fans outside the US. I think its a better deal over here especially with discount codes which big sellers send out almost every week. I ordered mine with 10% off so very pleased with that.

I have the 2014 UK Mono albums which are great for sound quality, but as an American kid growing up in the 1970's, who mostly listened to LP's, I like the fact that the Capitol albums included a lot of the singles hits and EP tracks on the individual albums that weren't always included on the UK albums. 'Past Masters' is a good collection to make up for the songs that were missing from the UK albums, but it's nice to hear them in context of the albums at the time rather than the Past Masters make-up effort. I also like the fact that this new Capitol Mono 1964 release will be all analog. My original mono copies of these from the 1960's are in good condition, but I'm hoping that freshly cut vinyl will be cleaner and quieter!

I did some research and as much as I love The Beatles, its hard to swallow the extra $120 for the box and and basically a documentary on vinyl. I also heard the documentary is ok at best. So I'm now ordering these all individually.

My reasoning is simply that I'm an old geezer and these two records were an enormous part of my youth. And although most of this stuff was released in the UK at that time, these specific records were US only and that's what I remember.

I have most of these mono releases that I purchased in '64 - '65, starting with the Vee-Jay release "Introducing The Beatles". At the time that was the Beatles. I purchased the MFSL Box Set on October 1, 1982. I don't think I've listened to the Capitol releases since.

I was going to order the box set from your store but it sold out pretty quick so I ended up ordering from Udiscover for the free shipping and I had some points. I don't own most of the albums in this box set. I only have Meet the Beatles and A Hard Day's Night soundtrack and those belonged to my mom. They're pretty scratched up but they play well. I was looking forward to the Rubber Soul box set but I guess that's next year. I'm actually happy to get this release and I also got the Meet The Beatles Target exclusive. So I can't wait to give these a listen to.

Going by official Beatles Store pricing, in the UK the complete box set's only £38.05 more than the 6 standalone albums, which is the equivalent of about $50. Not sure why the US has such a massive markup

So far I’ve ordered Meet The Beatles and the Hard Days Night soundtrack, those being the only two of the group that I don’t already own a mono copy of. It was only a year or two ago thatI went on a low key quest of adding the American Beatles albums to my collection when I came across them in used record stores in decent shape, and while I initially didn’t make any real distinction between stereo & mono, as I went on I wound up often getting a second copy of an album if I already had a stereo but came across a mono in really nice shape (or vice-versa if I happened upon a really early vintage stereo in good shape) I’ll probably give the old monos I do have now another listen in the next few days and if they’re trashed enough I might order the reissues of those as well, but if they sound decent given their age I probably won’t bother because as you may have mentioned, we’re not exactly dealing with audiophile source tapes here, and if there’s any material where the listening experience might genuinely be enhanced by the atmosphere of a few occasional, non-overbearing pops & clicks, it’s this. BTW, calling The Beatles Story an “interview” disc is giving it too much credit. It’s a shallow, low-effort cash-in documentary record that consists mostly of a DJ reading off biographical facts & other material probably sourced straight from EMI’s publicity department, along with brief, not particularly insightful snippets from old interviews. I listened once to the cd version from that old cd U.S. albums box that they cobbled together from uk masters and have no need to ever hear it again, which I’m pretty sure is true for everyone who’s ever heard it going all the way back to 1965.

In Canada the individuals are $53 and the box is $529. A big joke. I guess next year we will get Mono Beatles VI , YESTERDAY AND TODAY ( with butcher insert?) Help, Rubber Soul ( with the one off Stereo? ) and Revolver . Maybe they should also do the Canadian LPS. Which were different (at least the first 3) Maybe then we will see a Rubber Soul box. I'm not in the U.S. but I just ordered the four titles that mean the most to me personally having no need for a box and the Interview album and am fairly sure the mastering will be "good enough" given the source to offer improvements over original monos. If I may, while like this stores owner I'm no fan of bags of added echo or duophonic quasi-stereo, I will point out the Analogue Productions versions of the stereo Beach Boys Little Deucé Coupe and All Summer Long vinyls editions elected to keep the duophonic tracks that had been on copies from original release in. Perhaps the rational for issuing "as was" includes being faithful to the original issues even if we may of chosen today to done a more straightforward and audio quality first mastering and in using exclusively the original Capitol mono masters that is exactly what Universal have gone for.

I will not be surprised if we see a ‘65 box set. This makes since. There really is no need to create box sets for early Beatles records for two reasons. The first is there was not a lot going on in the studio on those albums. A song would take one or two takes before it was in the can. Not a lot to create 3 or 4 album sets out of. The other reason is the condition of those very early tapes is probably in questionable shape to use and the don’t want to take a chance using them again.

When Allen Klein got his ruthless mitts on Apple near the end of the 60's, he closed out the Apple pressings of all of The Beatles American Album to the point where my local Target store had hundreds of copies of their entire catalog for $2.99 each. I bought about half their catalog in one swoop. I should have bought copies of everything. At that time, I had no idea that the Apple versions would be pooh-poohed as not being original Capitol rainbow mono versions, but our rainbow copy of Second Album had been destroyed by the abuse it received from three pre-teen listeners.

I am passing on this - but I hope the die hards who buy this - do push the Beatles (company) to repress the UK Mono Box set - I would even take a color variant of it if it has to be different. I have always been confused by these American releases and as I got older and learned about the situation - it just made me mad to even think there was some schmo in the US that thought he knew better then the Beatles - and people will say things like - well that is what made them in America - no - Im pretty sure the FAINTING girls would have bought Beatles For Sale - just the way it was Vs. What Capitol/Emi/Calderstone/Apple should have really done was issued two slimmed down box sets of (Giles Treated UK)A HardDaysNight on say July 1 and in November 1,2024 issued (Giles Treated UK)Beatles For Sale. You have to know that we analogue people shun the 1987 uk cds. They are not that bad and as a Beatles listener I think some are great.

The big issue here will be Kevin Reeves' mastering. He did a great deal of awful cutting work on the Verve By Request series. I hope these are better and that he didn't cut them fixed pitch like those.

There was a video posted earlier today where he’s talking about the mastering of these albums. After watching it, I have slightly more confidence that these will be better than his past output. I also have it on good authority; a couple titles were re-cut because the person overseeing them felt they could be better. So someone’s paying attention over there.

The box is a pretty hefty premium on top of buying all the albums separately, so you'd really have to want a copy of The Beatles' Story, or care enormously about owning the set in a nice-looking presentation case to make it attractive. For me in Europe, I think the appeal just isn't here, the actual Capitol albums aren't that common here in the first place, and I'm not big enough of a fan to pay top dollar for frest copies of them.

I can easily live without the box set as is. I do want to buy Meet, Second, and '65 to relive that grade school rush of midwest Beatlemania I went through in 4th and 5th grades, and to hear "I Feel Fine" buried in reverb like God intended it 😉. I would buy new versions of Beatles VI and the neat US version of Rubber Soul before buying Something New (Capitol's album with the Hard Day's Night songs), or the pointless Beatles Story. I wonder if Capitol is considering them as later release stand alone issues?

The box only makes sense for those that want to store and forget about them never actually listening to them. But at this price? I'll wait for reviews and if they pass mustard I'll buy some or all individually. Love your video, and I know your bias is from a retailer that wants to sell records, but in your way you did an excellent job of putting this box in perspective. Those reviewers that want a rehash of the mono box just because they missed out the first time are truly selfish. KZbinrs put pressure to get the Stones mono re-released because they missed out the first time and I doubt it sold very well.

The '64 mono set because I don't have any of the Capitals in good shape (sorry Mike I would have preordered from you, didn't check first). I didn't do the math, I assumed it would be fair. 120 more? Price gouging. Not all of us are made out of money. If The Beatles (remaining alive plus the estates of Harrison and Lennon) were part of that outrageous price hike then shame on them. I missed out on the Mono Masters (have the CD set, blah) when I was stupid and inexperienced about vinyl. Regrets since. I did get the Pink Floyd silk screen from you, mounted on the wall carefully framed as an art piece for the listening room.

Not that is really matters (to most) but the Capitol masters are dubs (copies) of the original UK masters, and are more than likely copies of UK copies. The Abby Road protocol was to make safeties (copies) of masters and from those make copies to be sent to the various territories around the world including the US, which are treated as "masters", copied, then from them the actual records are made.

I am absolutely NOT interested in this new boxed set. I hate mono in the first place. I've got 2 ear and they still kinda work. $300. is ridiculous. I paid just under that for one of my "The Beatles In Mono" LP boxed sets. Because of the disinterest in that mono LP boxed set, they had been lingering on shelves collecting dust, so they were discounted to clear them out. Both the Beatles stereo and mono LP boxed sets were being discounted for pre-orders in the first place. This new Beatles boxed set is just dealing with the menagerie of albums Capitol created for 1964. Plus, Capitol monkeyed with those original recordings from the beginning. I might be interested in some of the individual mono albums to compare with my OG Capitol mono versions. Maybe I'll use one to get free shipping for something I really want. Amazon will probably discount them a little and include a free mp3 download.
