Back in December 1962 I was playing bass with Mike Dean and the Kinsmen and we played with the Beatles at Bedford. When they came on I couldn’t believe what I was listening to. We played with lots of top bands at the time but these guys completely knocked us out, they were the best. I’m 83 now but still have wonderful memories of that night

They were still young men when John died and the testosterone was still flowing too high . (If they could have met again at 65 they could have made peace with each other). The competitive rage was still burning . (Yoko hatred was still burning), John & Paul would never have given in at that time. There are no "happily ever afters " in Life. (Memento Mori .) It has ended well enough. Paul prevailed.

I was 13 when my father drove myself and my friend Kathy to the Beatles concert at the Boston Gardens. My poor dad must have been petrified to allow me to go in there without him while he waited in the parking lot. The screams were so loud you couldn’t hear a single word. That and Woodstock were 2 of my finest moments.

I do love their early recordings but compare 3 videos of the Beatles from 1964 or so to 3 videos of the Stones and then let us know. Even Mick Taylor said they were never in tune and sang bad and he quit in 5 years. Also, Beatles vocals and music is way more taxing than the Stones music

@@jeanhansel5805 I don't even think this is true. I know people from those times who think of the Beatles like one famous group of the time. Others who dismiss them in favour of some dim rival. And I know two generations since who are absolutely immersed in everything they were and are. It's something like the difference between being a music lover and a consumer passively absorbing the trends of the time. There are plenty of 60s teens and 20 somethings who never went to a live event nor cherish the Beatles to this day, even though they bought some records then. So how would you know what it is to love the Beatles when you're born after the 60s and actually grew up as a young child on our parents' soon to be forgotten records. Only then to investigate their phenomena across a lifetime. You don't know. With more access to media than those days. You don't know how younger music lovers understand the Beatles.

This vid is misleading. The audio has been cleaned up. I have a friend who then aged 17, attended one of their Australian concerts (Brisbane venue). We both still play guitar and I jam with him to this day. He reported to me that apart from beign able to say he was there as a nostalgic novelty, he may as well have saved his money. Given the amplification of the day, after the first 30 seconds, The Beatles couldn't be heard above the din of the girls unceasing screaming. Beatlemania as was, which just had to be experienced. No retelling quite captures their impact & the hysteria. Lennon confirmed this himself on several occasions, reporting their annoyance in not even being able to hear themselves above it.

To add. Their early albums were essentially live performances as they didn't use many if any overdubs etc.. hence they plugged in and played together and what you hear is what you get. Considering how quickly they recorded those early albums is testament. Their later stuff was more experimental and depended on studio magic to get the sound. But still undeniable talent. Just add the producer as a 5th member.

I just gave you accurate testimonial evidence of what a live performance by them was like to experience first hand as reliably related to me by someone I've known for over almost 50 years. That The Beatles were tight live derived of their grounding around the traps in the UK prior to their foundation developed by those grindingly long hours in Hamburg through their return to The Cavern and other venues around the UK until their subsequently presentation polish and promotion by Epstein is already well served by evidence prior to this. No-one can challenge A. their raw talent, B. the alignment of the stars probability of the charismatic mix of those 4 individuals coming together in that place and time. Having lived the era with a basis of comparison since, no argument from me, The Beatles -as was, remain the act to follow & greatest band ever in my eyes since their initial chart success in late 1962.

Epstein was the glue, an undeniable fundamental factor in shaping their image, harnessing their talent productively, availing them of opportunity critical to their initial success and subsequent unprecedented rise of Beatlemania no one could have predicted. Even with all that talent, without him or the coincidence of the time was right, they may remained struggling also rans or a few hit wonders before fading into obscurity like so many other bands of the day. I'm certainly glad they didn't.

Obviously people remember their later studio stuff more these days as it's more listenable and relatable for a modern audience, but what's often forgotten is how the Beatles cut their teeth as an absolutely killer live band. By this point the core members had been playing together for 5+ years and had thousands of gigs under their belts. Their first two albums were also recorded in the 2-track era, so what you hear is pretty much the best live take. Being that good, that young, with that much charisma and their own songs. Simply unheard of at the time. They blew everyone away.

I remember everything changed after that, the whole world just changed the next day. I was just a dumb 10 year old when the Beatles invaded the USA and didn't really know what all the excitement was about . only that my older sister had over night turned insane and seemed possessed by some unseen force, that drove her to cover her walls with Beatles stuff and talk incessantly about "Paul" . i'm an old man now and my sister is gone, and i cherish every one of those those memories.

@@jackburton2431 What people do not appreciate was that the Beatles spawned an almighty industry of knockoff merchandise which the band had zero to do with but which harnessed their massive fanbase. You mentioned "Beatles wigs" which you could get - but for kids like me for just a few shillings you could get these blown plastic "wigs" that you could perch over your head and pretend you were John, Paul, George or Ringo. You would specify which one you wanted when you bought it. I can't remember which one I had - and it didn't last long - but for a while this kid was a Beatle. Not to mention all the phantasmagoria of other stuff that was created - especially decals (transfers). They were hot property in the early days. I so appreciate my older sister taking me to see "Help".

So glad I saw this video, never saw it before. Ok so here is a "sentimental" experience I had about 9 months ago. I live in Bangkok, Thailand with my wife....at the malls they have these huge Guitar shops.....everything you want, Fender, Gibson, ESP, Dean, PRS, Gretsch etc.etc.etc. They also have a huge selection of "Vox" amps too...One day I went in there to look around, this young guy is hooked up to a Gretsch and to a Vox Amp. Oh my Buddah...he was rewarded with lunch from Subway from me and my wife. He was 15 years old...

Same. The album Meet the Beatles was like $2.65 at a GROCERY STORE. Couldn't believe what I was hearing. Later got The Beatles' Second Album and that introduced me to Chuck Berry and Smoky Robinson, I still think George Harrison's Roll Over Beethoven is the best ever recorded. They played those early songs a million times in Germany until they dropped, they literally could have done all of them in their sleep. It was 1964, I was TEN, really didn't know any Elvis songs, faintly knew some Everly Brothers. Other than that my familiarity with music was Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer stuff. Went to see Hard Day's Night, was blown away. Have been a fanatic Beatlemaniac ever since. I look forward to hanging out with John and George in Heaven.

I was 15 when the Beatles played the cow palace on Aug 31 1965. I was lucky to sneak into the backstage area , there i found the boys playing cards in a small trailer.I pretended to be the curtain monitor and would open and close the curtain for the acts, Sam the Sham and of course my heroes the Beatles. When they were playing, I stood behind the boys. When they finished there set , I held the curtain closed until I got to shake there hands. What a concert. The amount of jelly beans, stuff animals and non stop flash bulbs coming on stage was very cool.

I'm 75 now ... this sure brings back wonderful memories in '62 of sitting on the stage with them when I was 14 - 'Church Hall Saturday night dance' - boys sat on chairs down one side, girls on the other hehe. They were doing the rounds in their van like all the bands, but we didn't know who they were then. A few months later they released Love Me Do - the rest is history. To my knowledge, folks like Leonard Bernstein were not given to weighing in on the merits of the songbooks of Buddy Holly or Little Richard. Songs like 'For No One' and 'Eleanor Rigby' changed that. Also from Revolver, I believe it might've been Al Kooper who suggested that without 'Got To Get You Into My Life' there would've been no Blood, Sweat and Tears or Chicago. For better or worse? That's a separate question.

As a young lad growing up in Canada (Toronto) I watched the Beatles for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show and to this day I can still remember sitting in front of the TV literally vibrating and shaking as the performance followed. I can totally relate to your story, and can recall thats all everyone was talking about for weeks before the Ed Sullivan show, and we were calling all our friends on our “party phone line” right up to the show. I was 13 at the time and my siblings and I were jumping up during the songs, and we couldn’t believe what we saw and heard, then my father looks at our mother and said” well, they are no Bing Crosby, thats for sure”. I still laugh when I think of it today.

When I was a kid I was a Stones fan due to my older brother's influence. Back in the 60's you were either a Beatles fan or a Stones fan. No in between. But luckily I have an older sister that was a Beatles fan and by the time Revolver and Rubber Soul came out and I could hear those songs coming from my sister's room I realized just how friggin good the Beatles really were. Those voices, the harmonies, the songs... Just floored me. I was and still am in the Stones camp (I mean I wanted to be Keith Richards since I was 6 in 1964) but to me John Lennon has the greatest rock n roll voice of all time. And Paul McCartney is probably the best bass player ever if not one of the greatest all around musicians of all time. As a teenager I would still argue with my Beatles friends about the Stones vs Beatles but I knew deep inside how great they really were. I just couldn't admit that to my Stones friends at the time. But I remember the first time I heard songs like Ticket To Ride, Your Bird Can Sing... and there was no denying the genius that was the Beatles and George Martin. I still can't believe to this day that I missed the Beatles on Ed Sullivan because my older brother made my brother Trebor and me boycott the Beatles that night because he said no true Stones fan would watch the Beatles. So instead we sat on the front stoop and sang Stones songs. Again I thank my older sister for turning me on to the Beatles and not minding when I borrowed her Beatles and Motown records of which I still have some of those 45's to this day. And no she's not getting them back...

They were the best….however….with the exception of Brian Wilson. John, Paul, wrote their music George Martin arranged the music Brian Epstein managed the band Others produced the music. George Martin who knew the Beatles better then anyone said John and Paul were very good, but the one true genius was Brian Wilson Beachboys harmonies we’re second to none. Wilson wrote, arranged, managed produce etc. he did it all alone except for a few exceptions. Wilson’s music, Good Vibrations, God only Knows, etc was are more complex and arranged the. Any music the Beatles did. The Beatles Help song came AFTER the Beachboys Help Me Rhonda song. The Beatles Yesterday& Today album came AFTER the Beachboys Today album The Beatles Sgt. Peppers & Magical Mystery Tour albums came after Beachboys Today & Pet Sounds Albums. The Beatles always paid close attention to Brian Wilson.

I'm 62, never lived a moment when I wasn't aware of the Beatles and their music. Rarely does a day pass where I don't either actively or passively listen to at least one song, so literally tens of thousands of times. I love all forms of music, but there is no one who comes close to what the Beatles represent artistically, socially, historically. And yes, this is the best recording of their best performance. To have been in Hamburg for one of their marathon sets in the early days would have been magic.

I believe this particular concert was in Melbourne, Australia, in 1963. Ringo had just rejoined the band. I was there. It was like sitting in a wind tunnel behind a jet engine. You could barely hear the band above the screaming. It was great though.

My eyes are always drawn to Georgie. A very creative guitar player for his age and time. Well,actually,it was those who came before them that wrote the Ruck and Roll rule book. Bill Hailey and the Comets are credited with being the first true Rock and Roll band. Then came Buddy Holly,The Big Bopper,and on to the Beatles. And,you bet,..the Beatles are the number one Rock and Roll band in music history.

Rock 'n' roll exploded AFTER the Beatles.

It is what The Beatles did that makes them the greatest band in the world and the ones who actually took Rock and Roll and transformed it, made it so popular, made it evolve.

Rock and Roll was created by American artists in the mid 50's. By those I mentioned in my other comment. We already had our radios filled with big Rock and Roll bands,and great songs way before the Beatles ever existed. It was already hugely popular. Perhaps not well known in Europe yet though.The Beatles did that. Also,they are only "one" of the greatest bands in the world. The Rolling Stones gave them a massive run for their money. Calling them "the greatest band in the world" is relative. Many people would disagree with you. I have my own preference for that title,but I've no need to mention who. :}

My dad was an old fashioned fuddy duddy, who thought Mitch Miller was music. I'm jealous. But at least some of my aunts were cool. One in particular, aunt Katie, who drove a cool sporty bronzish sedan and wore high cut skirts, helped wear down my dad, so I could wear my hair longer, FINALLY, by 1967 or 68. better later than never ; ) I learned a few years ago that my dad had a crush on my aunt Katie and wanted to marry her, but married her sister instead !! republicans can B sooo contradictory. lmfao : D

75 here ... wonderful memories of sitting on the stage with them when I was 14 - Church Hall Saturday night dance - boys sat on chairs down one side, girls on the other hehe ... they were doing the rounds like all the bands, but we didn't know who they were then. A few months later they released Love Me Do - the rest is history.

No effects, no auto correct, self taught and I had forgotten how fantastic George's guitar playing was until he lost interest in the whole thing. We were just entertained by a band of imitators two nights ago, and even them were amazing. Paul character was a lefty. They observed every detail, the british accent, everything. I can only imagine what it could have been with the originals.

This performance was made in Australia in June 1964 at Festival Hall in Melbourne. As a Beatles fan who has lived in Melbourne all my life, I am thrilled that this has been labelled as the Beatles' best performance ever! It really is a fantastic showcase of the band's ability to entertain and to remain artistic and musically in control at the same time. Years later, my father played keyboard in a band and the audio guy they frequently hired in the early 90s would setup the sound system with the very same microphones used in this concert! I also had to sit university exams in Festival Hall in 2009-10. It was surreal to think I was with hundreds of others in a place so quiet where 45 years earlier the same venue was filled with thousands of screaming fans watching one of the greatest musical groups of all time!

Unbelievable! Perfect Vocals and no stage monitors wtf John is still my favorite voice of all time, and the mix in this video is best I've ever heard. It's 'clearer' on Sullivan, but it isn't BiG, this is a huge, fat, loud rock and roll band...I'm also 67 and I'm crying too...it all starts and stops with the lads, best band hands down in history...how lucky were we to grow with them as the soundtrack of our lives...

I LOVE the way they so easily trade off the lead in the second verse of "All My Lovin'. " THREE amazing lead vocalists in one band. The tighest, sharpest band that ever played - and just as tight LIVE! Remember everyone (especially you young 'uns), this was WAAY before any computerized mumbo jumbo, auto-tuning, pitch correction, - what they did is what you're hearing!!! And look at them! So incredibly beautiful and sexy and charming and personable. No one should wonder why they were/are the best and most popular band EVER. And, sadly, with the music "industry" now controlling and manipulating every aspect of what we hear, there will never be a group as talented and perfect as The Beatles.

The world’s BEST EVER BAND! A band that sounded soo good n better than over artists because their live performances were like they produced in the recording studio! Pretty incredible given the sound equipment back then n we can listen to to them NOW, and still love the music of their live performance of 60 odd years ago. We are blessed to hear these brilliant lads. A testament to to them is the number of bands who do covers of the Beatles. These cover bands study the Beatles with such precision because it can make them such a popular group. But the Originals were legends so early in their days n their memories won’t ever die ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
