I never knew what this song was about until reading commentary in reaction videos. It makes listening to the song so much better. Civil rights, freedom, a new day - "you were only waiting for this moment to arrive". Isn't that the truth.

Yeah, as someone pointed out, Paul wrote this song with reference to The Civil Rights movement "Bird" being an alternative slang word for a girl in England......also The Beatles refused to play in any segregated stadiums on their U.S. tours.

Dawn D all true! He had the hope that his song might reach some of the people suffering during the Civil rights movement and give them some hope or comfort. And yes, bc they refused to play to segregated audiences, Jacksonville has thier first de-segregated concert ever!

@@arwenodinson8803 I honestly figured it had to do with the Civil Rights Movement. But I didn't know about the Great Britain colloquialism ignore the fact that they refuse to play segregated stadiums. I did hear Elvis try to keep them out of the country...? Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear? Also that John Lennon and possibly all of the Beatles we're on the CIA and FBI watch list. Now that's freaking crazy if it's true. Nice of them to fight terrorists for us...????

Dawn D Not sure about Elvis since they did visit his house and it sounded like an amicable visit. As for the fbi, honestly they're probably watching everyone that's extremely wealthy or famous in one way or another.

Isn’t it amazing how such a simple song written and performed by a MASTER can be so incredible?!?! This was the song I clung to and kept playing in my headphones when I was escaping a 13 year marriage of extreme physical and emotional abuse. “Spread your broken wings and learn to fly!” ....it was my mantra to GET OUT from under his control and beatings and stop being afraid of what he would do. Turned out everything everyone was telling me was the truth...and once I was OUT and he had no more control and I was in the company of stronger, better people...he turned tail and ran like the coward he was. One of the men who came into my life and gave me the strength to get out is my husband today (no...it was not an affair! He was one of my best friends before he became my husband and the love of my life...) had given this song to me and once out..started playing Tom Petty’s “You’re a free girl now!”....and then others that are so special to our relationship. MUSIC IS SUCH A MIRACULOUS HEALING TOOL AND GLUE THAT BINDS PEOPLE TOGETHER....AND NOT TO BE TO CLIQUE....THE WIND BENEATH THIS BIRDS WINGS TO FLY AND BE FREE! GOOD MUSIC!!!! LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!!! 🎶 🎵❤️ 🎵 🎶

Such a sweet simple song. Brings back a vivid childhood memory. I was spending the night at a friend's house on a warm summer night out in the country. Her parents were gone, just her older teenage brother in charge. Late at night he was in his room listening to this album (the famous White album) in the dark, window open, thinking we were in the other room asleep. We decided to sneak outside, around to the back of the house, and scratch on his window screen. "Blackbird" was playing. We waited for that quiet pause in the song to carry out our nefarious plan. Later, after he'd calmed down, we all had a good laugh about how we'd scared the crap out of him & how he'd been convinced there was either a burglar, a peeping tom or a wild animal outside his window. To this day whenever I hear this beautiful song, in my head I hear "Blackbird singing in the dead of night...*scratch-scratch*...".

Deborah Cornell Great memory! Was just sharing my own about this song! One of my favorite Beatles memories was back in the 70’s when I was in a very abusive foster home in California....there were rooms I was never allowed in....but in kindergarten I got sent home with the chicken pox and had to be kept from the other children...so...for a few short days in that horrible place...I got to sit in a room I had only walked past for so long...was given color books and crayons and orange juice...and felt “taken care of” for a couple days all while “Penny Lane” and “Lucy in the sky” played on their big console record player😊 It’s amazing how music can take you RIGHT BACK to a MOMENT! Love it!!!

@@lorie-harleyflinchum4726 You're so right. Music has that power, which can be either a good or a bad thing. It's strange how people in different circumstances can still have a similar experience. When I was about 9, my older sister left home, then my parents separated. I went from being in a family of four to just my mother & me. She started leaving me alone all night (even though it frightened me), stopped doing laundry or doing much grocery shopping. So I was pretty much fending for myself while also feeling abandoned. This went on for most of a year before my father found out what was happening & moved back home (& she left). I spent many lonely nights listening to my Beatles records & the radio. I swear it was the Beatles and my precious little Cocker Spaniel that got me through that time period. Some Beatles songs bring back unhappy memories. But their music from their later years, as I started into my teens & life got better (& more normal) brings back happier memories, especially with school friends. Sorry this is so long & so personal, but your story struck a chord with me. I'm so sorry you went through what you did. And although our specific circumstances were different, there's a certain similarity there that allows me to relate to your experience. Thanks for such a nice reply. From the looks of your profile pic you're a pretty happy person now, and I'm so glad! And here we are, still enjoying great music and enjoying watching younger people like James discover the music we loved back in the day (I especially love his Queen reactions)!💙

Deborah Cornell So true! One of the reasons I love seeing young people do reactions is to get to see a glimmer of appreciation of a time long gone...but so special...and the music is such a way to encapsulate that unique moment. You mentioned my profile and looking happy...I tell you...that guy in the picture with me...my husband...is my life! I tell him we are from “the same tribe.” We grew up in the same towns in CA...but he was 8 years older than me. My husband was(and still is) the cool guy...the funny, sexy, gorgeous guy all the girls swoon over and the guys want to hang out with. So ...I’ve loved him pretty much my whole life..but never thought he’d ever see me as anything but a little brat tag a long...and now he’s my best friend...my forever...and to this day I still feel like the luckiest girl in the world to be called HIS😊 And music is one of the greatest things we share! I love it when he puts on the music from our life growing up and I can sit for hours listening to his sexy, husky voice tell stories of all the shenanigans he and his friends did...about the swimming hole we all hung out at. Like I said...he was years ahead of me.....so I was just someone’s little sister to him...but I was GA GA over him! Anyway...here we are..all these years later...and it’s amazing how a song can just FLOOD me with that same love and makes me appreciate him so much! Your life sounds so much like mine! Even when I came home to my mom from foster homes (my dad died right after I was born)....she would still run and my life was nothing but living in cars and motels. Even though my siblings all cane back one by one...I was so lonely and scared all the time. But...we ended up in that town that produced the man I’ve shared my life with and for that...I’d do it all over again. Was your dad a music fan? I, never having one, am always in awe of dad’s. Watching my husband be a dad has been the best. And the music keeps him the COOL 😎 GUY...even to all our kids and I love that! Our two still at home have seen me a little different as well knowing my first concert was QUEEN. 😊

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 YAY! I promise you'll LOVE The Beatles both together and as solo artists. All of them have massive talent. They are the blueprint that tons of musicians attribute to want to make music. They changed a whole culture; not only with music, but fashion and not being afraid to be experimental. They went through many incantations during the time they were together. They were like brothers. They challenged each other to be the best they could be.

I've been going through the channels I have subscribed to and deleting the reaction sites that have too much Elvis and Queen. So MANY incredible artists from the past who don't get the credit they deserve. Not everyone likes Elvis you know. I don't dislike Queen, but enough already. But, I do like you and I like some of your content so I will be sticking around.

@@69birdboy Hate's a strong word; when i said i didn't like over 80% of them, it's basically that i considered them largely forgettable even while i was listening to the tracks. Most of the Beatles songs were less than 3 minutes, often barely 2 minutes, but they still felt long to me as in hard to get through them without losing interest. Also the recording technology was noticeably inferior to even the 70s and beyond. Sure i could say if they recorded today, they would sound much better as more modern covers of them often sound better than the originals IMO, but when i listen to their actual body of work this aspect is impossible for me not to notice. But supposedly there are legions of people that really like just about everything they wrote. Oh well, different strokes for different folks, i guess...
