Hey Jude. A work of art. Sir Paul Mccartney's ability to hear this all in his head is phenomenal. Personally, I have always believed this song is about John Lennon. I also believe Paul was thinking about his own future. Lyricly, I don't know how it could be about, or for, a young boy. George Harrison having hurt feelings about this track for decades tells you all about the band's dynamics. Incredible music as always from our favorite lads.

It probably says something that Bing Crosby covered Hey Jude. What I love about John's reaction to the song is the irony. It's not just that he's convinced a song, let's say, _inspired_ by Julian's plight was actually written for him. But by this time he is utterly convinced that songs have to be an expression of the writer's personal feelings and opinions. In short, his songs are worthless if they don't mention Yoko by name. And yet here is this song that doesn't tie itself to any specific situation, and it resonates so powerfully with John that he can't conceive of it not having been written for him. I'm sure it wasn't written for him, but I kind of wish he had learned a lesson from it. While I do believe that Julian was the inspiration, Paul was coming up with the song whilst driving. I'm sure he couldn't have played it to Cynthia upon arrival, simply because he'd have barely started it by then. After all, he'd evidently spent most of the journey looking for a florist's. I'm sure that the red rose _was_ a joke. But perhaps it's a joke that would make more sense if both Cynthia _and_ Paul had just been dumped - particularly if they had both been dumped by the same person. I do wonder if maybe Paul had reason to feel that way regarding John?

Is it possible that Cynthia didn't even know that Her Jude was written for Julian until Paul started talking about it on tour in 1989? Surely somebody would have told her, right?

The picture on this video is interesting, because it seems it's from a taping of the Hey Jude video take that is not known yet.
