Alison Krauss was inspired to play the fiddle from listening to her fiddle hero Mark O'Connor as a little girl. Which albums of Mark's did she listen to that inspired her to play? The first one O'Connor made at age 12 - National Junior Fiddle Champion, on Rounder Records. It was inevitable that they would grow up to be friends and perform together like they did on this wonderful rendition of "I Will" from London television.

I was fortunate to have seen her in my hometown when she was 16, touring with Jerry Douglas and Albert Lee. I bought her album and she wrote 'I hope you like this.' Oh my, I sure did! And I played it all the time on my radio show!

I once heard this very performance played back on an old video player -- there was a 'lilt' of sound from the old tape which added to Alison's very moving voice -- Actually made me learn to finger-pick guitar this tune and learn the words -- Still think of her version a lot ...

MY GOD...even with a little baby fat she's cute as ever and NOTE PERFECT from start to finish. This sounds like a studio recording. Don't forget back then, singing was 21 year old Alison's "side hustle". Before she was singer who played the fiddle she was a fiddle player who sang. I first heard her sing this in a honkytonk in Ohio, that somehow managed to book her. I’d seen her many times by then but never heard her sing this. She is obviously a wonderful musician and probably the best singer on the planet, but she’s also a good entertainer. The conditions that night weren’t ideal, the sound guy had no clue how to do sound for an acoustic band and the crowd was impatient, but she handled it well and changed her song list to fit that crowd. Anyway, I love Alison Krauss and I love this song, it was played at our wedding

Wonderful to watch the early akus. This was on the album now that i found you. I bought it after hearing songs played on the Wogan show in the UK. None other than a talented, Champagne, Illinois singer and fiddle player whose name would become synonymous with American Bluegrass, Ms. Alison Krauss, who received her fiddle from Santa Claus under the Krauss Family Christmas Tree when she was 5 years old. Much like LeeAnne Rimes, a Mississippi gal whose voice would be called the resurrection of Patsy Cline, whose memory lingered since 1963 when she met her untimely demise. These two ladies would set the Country/Bluegrass genre back on its heels by 1995, and the maturity of their skill continues to take away the breath of all who listen. That's Ron Block (now mostly banjo w/ Union Station) on guitar, the original mandolin player, Adam Steffey, comping and playing accents, and the current bass player (name slips my mind) on upright. Apparently this was pre-Dan Tyminski and Jerry Douglas, and before they decided they didn't need a dedicated mandolin player.
