Yes, the Neumann U48 microphone could be switched to figure-of-eight characteristic to make this possible. If this is what happened here, it shows clearly that George Martin and the engineers wanted the two voices to blend as much as possible. And they were primarily working in mono anyway.
@Johnnylund116 күн бұрын
When this song was released we all loved Paul’s voice crack. We loved that they kept it in because it showed they were honest, human and willing to keep a mistake if the take sounded good. You can even hear Ringo acknowledge the “crack” with a hi-hat tap. The Beatles were never phony to us at all. Keep the crack! Lol
@britt2001b16 күн бұрын
Well I did in my first version that I posted yesterday but many commented about wondering why it wasn't fixed. So I did in my second version in which I more importantly fixed the error in my over use of 'De-ess'. To me, the voice crack will always be there in my head. Thank you for listening!
@Johnnylund116 күн бұрын
@@britt2001bat the end of the day the original mono mixes are as The Beatles intended them to sound. Giles Martin misses things. His mixes lose some energy to me. You do a great job. It’s hard work and you can’t please everyone.

Thanks again Britt for working on this great Beatles number. You've done a great job here. I believe this was John's first ballad type song that he wrote. I hope he remained proud of it. The video accompanying it is just right. It just had to be from the film, didn't it, and even shows George stumbling over the amp!
@britt2001b14 күн бұрын
Thanks and I appreciate your praise of my work. Yes, the video is a compilation of the two scenes in the movie in which they perform 'If I Fell'. I've edited it to give it a fresh appearance. The scene where George is stumbling over his amp has stuck with me since I viewed this movie back in 1964 so that's the reason I highlighted it with it's own segment. It's such a great unscripted moment which today's over-perfectionists would do over. Leaving it in just makes it more human and relatable. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

another great job on one of their best songs they did , whats funny about Pauls's voice crackling part , George Martin said leave it in because the song is about love lost in vein and the that singing mistake worked and I agree with him , ha ha. Berry Grody of Motown would do that too , in many recording sessions if someone made a mistake but i sounded goo , he would leave it in. He once said in to the Temptation recording session , "No leave it in , it's a good mistake" , ha ha

I heard his voice crack the first time I listened to this song in 1964. It didn't bother me, it just provided some insight into them being real human beings instead of the structured performers we were so spoon fed with. The sub par remix that I posted yesterday contained the voice crack but so many commented about why this hasn't been corrected within the official versions I thought it would be refreshing for those who want it. So in my revised remix I took it out. It was a very easy edit but the funny thing is, even after I corrected it I was still hearing the voice cracking and I was questioning myself if I had even fixed it at all. It's just so ingrained in my head, I still hear it that way! I'm glad you enjoyed this, thank you!

@@britt2001b Yeah , the cracked voice is ingrained in my memory too , ha ha. Whats amazing with beatles vocals there tons of mistakes especailly with double tracking but to me they sound great because it adds a uniquess to the sound but when you go to Beach Boys vocals , you can;t find any , they were so flawless , I think it's because Brian Wilson made sure they all sang it right and the guy was deaf in one ear , amazing.

I used to hide my 'tranni' under my pillow at night from my parents and tune in WLS out of Chicago waiting for the newest Beatles' tune. WLS seemed to play them first. It sounded awful with all the static but me being 800 miles away WLS would only come in at night. But I loved it!

@@britt2001b I found the 60s a complicated time did you ? Free Love, Flower Power etc. I was born in 52 and the 60s threw out all the rules I had grown up with. I think it was the most exciting times, but also the scariest. Even 1971 I was sent to my room by my mom because I was out too late. Firstly what 20yr old today would do what their parents say or care LOL.. I actually did as I was told and was banished to my room, it didn't even cross my mind not to LOL 🥸

I was born in 1952 also and the 60's were indeed complicated as I did, as you, what my parents expected from me. For me, the complication was from the rebellious element of that era in which I tried not to participate. One can just look at family television shows from the 1950's and early 60's and see the contrast compared to what it is today.

I really enjoy the instruments separation. However, my personal preference would be to put Paul’s voice in the middle just as John’s is.

Can you re-post the first one you did? It would be very interesting to be able to compare the two and see how you refine your work. Always look forward to, and am excited about, your posting a new re-mix!!

I'm very embarrassed by that first post. I should have caught the error before I posted it but my 72 year old ears didn't point it out to me. I had to listen to it with headphones with the volume pushed up to hear it. That is an interesting idea. Perhaps a short demonstrating the comparisons or a more of an instructional type of video showing what NOT to do! I'll explore that idea. Thanks!

Incredible version unlocked! One of my favorites and taking Paul's cracking out helps so much. Read this was one of John's favorites. Keep up the amazing work. Too bad you can't release an album of these improved versions. Almost like listening to the songs for the first time.

Another brilliant remix version you've created. THANK YOU so much for bringing it here. P.S. Can I make a request please? Would you try producing a new remix if The Beatles song "Don't Bother Me", perhaps eliminate the vocal echo? Anyhow, thank you for all the time and effort you out into these mixes. Cheers!🥂
@britt2001b15 күн бұрын
Thank you very much! I'm very glad you're listening. It would be very hard to eliminate the echo as it's buried with the vocal in a two channel recording. If the echo appears in an opposite channel of the main vocal it would be easy. I can check it out as I'm discovering listeners are responding greater to the early Beatles material. Thank you!
