@@vitoberio3637 John Lennon's original handwritten lyrics for In My Life (which are on display in the British Museum alongside and on equal footing with the Magna Carta, the Gutenberg Bible and an original copy of Shakespeare's First Folio) contained several more verses and had specific references to real people and places. I believe Paul spearheaded both the editing down of the song and the guardrails of the universal themes in the lyrics.
@reddoxx4754
@reddoxx4754 Ай бұрын
@@marcionery83 The song doesn't really have a "middle eight", though, and it doesn't have a verse/chorus format. It has the melody of the first section, which then changes to the melody in the second section. It then goes back to the first melody, and then repeats the second melody. McCartney wrote the harmony. George Martin filled in the middle of the song with his sped-up piano solo.

The lyrics to this song sound like they were written from the perspective of an 80-year-old man. John wrote them when he was just 25. He was an old soul. Maybe part of him knew he was not long for this world, especially after the death of Stu Sutcliffe.

Beatles fan since the beginning. I can never choose a favorite Beatles song. It's impossible, but I can name my top 5 and this is one of them. John sings lead, but if you listen closely and you know their voices Paul is singing parts of the verses with him. You can tell the parts where it's John alone. That's how good they were. Two voices in such tight harmony that they sound like one. Such a beautiful melody and touching lyrics. I've always wanted to have this play at my memorial.

I saw a comment down there a ways that either said they wanted it played at their wedding or that it had been played at it. I love that someone views the song that way. It is played at funerals all the time. I picked it as my musical selection for the slideshow we did for my Dad's memorial and it slayed people as expected. But...this is a love song. It really isn't sad at all. It's about the joy of being so in love that even his fondest and saddest memories pale in comparison to what he's feeling right now.

This was one of the first lyrically "deeper" rock songa that I heard, as a child (born in '73, so I didn't hear it until the very early '80s), which really moved me, and showed me that rock could be about much more than rocking out, or dancing and having fun. It's *great* to rock out, and dance and have fun, but this song took me to a deeper place. The Beatles still do that for me, today, so many years later. Still a big fan!
