Great review, fellas! As a long time Beatles fan, it took me a little while to appreciate Help! on a deeper level, perhaps because I often used to rank a lot of their early pop phase slightly below their later albums, and marked Rubber Soul as the tipping point towards a more mature sound and songwriting. As time went on, however, I began to see the beauty in Help! as an album, rather than a collection of pop songs, and acknowledge that in their development as songwriters from pop to more psychedelic or progressive, the transition began to happen there. Help! is a bridge album that see Lennon, McCartney and Harrison all begin to grow as songwriters. The only thing that held it back for me was the inclusion of 2 covers, and if they had been replaced by original tunes instead, for me this album would rival Hard Day's Night as the best of their early period, and it's highlights equal to that of many of Rubber Soul's great tunes. My rankings are as follows, but it was not an easy exercise: 14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (a little overwrought) 13. Act Naturally (great tune for Ringo) 12. Another Girl (weakest song on the A side, but still a nice little pop tune) 11. You Like Me Too Much ( I used to ignore this song quite a bit but listening to this album on vinyl changed that. Although it is far from one of George's best fits nicely on the album) ** this is where it gets tricky and the order of songs could almost be interchangeable from day to day and mood to mood** 10. It's Only Love (lovely melody from John, but held back slightly by the simplistic rhymes. Lennon was embarrassed by the lyrics in this song, but the melody is too lovely to ignore) 9. Help! ( I know it is a strange song to rank so low. It is a great song, a great album opener and has excellent lyrics, but it has never been the real album standout for me) 8. I Need You ( I like this early George song more every time I hear it. It has a great understated tone that adds variety and counterbalance to the uptempo songs on Side A) 7. I've Just Seen A Face (How can you not love this song? It perfectly captures the rush of young infatuation musically and lyrically so well and Paul sounds awesome on it) 6. The Night Before ( I love this song. Paul McCartney's vocal is on point and I think this gem is way too often overlooked.) 5. Tell Me What You See (a buried gem from the B Side. Very rich instrumentally, just as you boys stated in your review. Just something about the total feel of the playing and singing) 4. Yesterday (what can I say about this song that hasn't already been said? This song was a turning point for McCartney. Paul is my favourite Beatle so it's hard to rank this lower than the top 2) 3. Ticket To Ride (this is one of those Beatles songs that could make any casual listener a fan of this band. John and Paul's voices in harmony is a beautiful sound) 2. You're Gonna Lose That Girl (tremendous Lennon vocal and excellent performance from the band, overall. It's catchy, melodic and a little cheeky. I love this song) 1. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (This is John's Yesterday on this record for me. John's vocal really sells the emotion in this song and the instrumental break at the end is gorgeous.) As I said before, very hard to rank. The Top 10 in my list are all top tier tracks, and any of the top 8 could be my number 1 at any time.

Shawn and Trey, You guys are right that this is an underrated album and this album is loaded like you said. Help was released during the height of Beatlemania. Summer of 1965, the exact time the Beatles met Elvis, the greatest meeting of giants in the music industry, and it was never captured on film. We have the Capital album with the orchestral music soundtrack from way back when we were young. The facts are very interesting. I didn't know this album is the first Rock album to be nominated for Grammy album of the year, and I've Just Seen A Face being their first acoustic song. Also I find it fascinating that you Shawn stated that I've Just Seen A Face is your favorite Beatles song. It is one of my all time favorites.. On your ranking, you said this is your opinions, I hold your opinions in high regard because you guys are music experts. Your track ranking is placed so well as you both explain your reasons for each ranking. And you continue to include more facts throughout the video. You guys are right, this album has such high quality is the songwriting and musicianship. In my opinion, no other band can top this album, only the Beatles can top this album. I agree with your rating of 9.5. btw, You guys forgot to mention who gets the MVP. This is a toss up between John and Paul. I was thinking of choosing Paul, but John has the edge, barely. Lol Great job on this video. I will list my ranking 14 Dizzy Miss Lizzie Powerful vocal performance by John, old school Rock maybe they wanted a high energy song as the closer 13 Act Naturally Cool song for Ringo with a Country Western sound 12 You Like Me Too Much Harrison wrote a smooth song that glides musically. I like the organ added. Really good melody, one of my childhood favorites 11 Another Girl Rocking Pop Rock song with cool lead guitar, a fun song to hear 10 I Need You A really good offer by Harrison. a pleasing melody with some nice instrument effects, sad lyrics but good melody 9 You're Going To Lose That Girl Great tempo and great lead guitar, very good vocal by John, very cool song 8 The Night Before An underrated classic, one of the coolest Pop Rock songs, one of my favorites great song by Paul 7 Tell Me What You See Another underrated classic by Paul, great lyrics, great melody, one of my favorites from childhood, brings back a lot of memories 6 It's Only Love A beautiful catchy melody, John said he didn't like the lyrics, but I think it is a great song. I agree, really good vocal 5 You've Got To Hide Your Love Away Classic ballad lyrically and musically, John, as well as Paul and George showing maturity in their writing on this album 4 Ticket To Ride Awesome Rock song by John, great melody, great lead guitar, skilled drumming by Ringo, huge hit 3 i've Just Seen A Face One of the most beautiful songs ever written, lyrically and especially musically, an incredible melody, a masterpiece Paul shines here 2 Help I was going to rank this no. 1. It is one of the greatest and most iconic Rock songs ever, John crying out those self exploring lyrics, explosive Rock sound and rhythm, I read that the title for the movie was ' Eight Arms To Hold You '', but they changed it to Help 1 Yesterday A masterpiece of songwriting, a haunting melody, meaningful lyrics, It is like classical Pop, the most covered song in music history, from what I read, once again Paul shines

My personal ranking for Help! would be as follows: 14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy - It's not horrible, but it doesn't do the original version by Larry Williams justice though John would cover Bony Moronie for his 1975 Rock 'n' Roll album; I also agree with you guys for the fact that Yesterday didn't close the album but this did which as you referenced does weigh the second side if not the whole album down just a tad bit. 13. Act Naturally - Ringo's Country Western style vocals really comes through on this. 12. The Night Before - Underrated, but it's still up there as one my favorite Paul penned tunes. 11. It's Only Love - Decent to an extent that while John said he hated the lyrics, at least he had great lead vocals on this even if it's filler. The melody's also really catchy. 10. Tell Me What You See - Even if it's underrated, it's again up there with Eleanor Rigby and Hey Jude as my favorite Paul tracks, especially in the break with the Hohner Pianet. In your review of the album, you guys also said that this showed off their growth musically since they debuted with Please Please Me and that it foreshadows what was to come later with Rubber Soul and Revolver. 9. You're Going To Lose That Girl - John's cocky deliver on his lead vocals is outstanding. 8. Another Girl - Paul's lead vocal on this really comes alive on this. 7. I've Just Seen A Face - That rhyme scheme from Paul on this has really grown on me. 6. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away - The lyrics on this are wonderful and really, in terms of music and lyrics, the maturity of John, Paul and George is displayed masterfully on this album. 5. Ticket To Ride - John's voice and Ringo's drumming is captivating to my ears. 4. I Need You - George is in top form on this and the nice instrument effects are a good compliment musically. 3. You Like Me Too Much - George's writing on this just works musically and lyrically and the organ really shines here. 2. Help! - I really wanted to say that this was to be my #1. Even if it's not, it's the greatest and most iconic rock song and John's crying of those self exploring lyrics really come alive on this. 1. Yesterday - Simply put, the most covered song of all time.

Hey guys, great review/listing. I love this album too - I’m a huge fan of the film and the U.S. release - but I have a little complaint: I’m not hearing much from you guys about Ringo’s work. I’m a drummer and Ringo was my first “teacher”, when I was a kid, back in the late 60’s. His drumming on this album is pristine, inventive, iconic and air-tight! I know you guys appreciate that but definitely try to include your thoughts on Ringo’s work in the future. He’s truly an equal member of the greatest Rick band of all time!

I think the difference with the next 2 albums is that there is much more filler. Help Yesterday You’ve got to hide your love away and Ticket to Ride are up there with their very best. I’ve just seen a face is good but not as great in my opinion and the rest of the album enjoyable with quite a bit of filler. Doesn’t reach the heights of Revolver and Rubber Soul but great ranking really enjoyed it

Love this album. I'd rank it #7 on my personal Beatles album list. A great folk-pop album. Packed to the brim with great songs. My personal ranking would be: 1. “Help!” - top 10 favourite Beatles song. I'm glad they did it uptempo because it adds to the song. 2. “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” - wonderful lyrics. Honestly, I've always thought this song works well both from both a heterosexual or homosexual perspective. 3. “Ticket to Ride” - the drone is so catchy and makes the song captivating 4. “I Need You” - this is such an underrated song. I honestly love it. 5. “Yesterday” - a classic. The most covered song of all time. Everyone knows this one. 6. "I've Just Seen a Face" - the rhyme scheme is excellent on this song. 7. “You're Going to Lose That Girl" - love Lennon's cocky deliver on this track. 8. “The Night Before” - a good Paul pop rocker. Typical McCartney. 9. "Act Naturally" - I really like this track. I like country music so this sounds good to me. 10. "Tell Me What You See" - it's fine. Like the jangly guitars on this one a lot. 11, “Dizzy Miss Lizzy” - a disappointment when compared to other rockers they've done, but solid. 12, "It's Only Love" - it's a decent tune. Filler. 13. "You Like Me Too Much" - I like this song but not that much. 14. "Another Girl" - very forgettable

Not a big fan of Beatles' covers, except for "Twist And Shout" and "Rock & Roll Music." Maybe "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Act Naturally." After that, forget it. Thank goodness they became such prolific songwriters and did not need covers as time went on.

"You Like Me Too Much" is definitely the weakest track, in my opinion, although it is still very charming, and I wouldn't want to be without it. "Act Naturally" is great, and the best fitting song for Ringo to sing up to this point. I always like "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", although it was never going to come close to John's similar sounding "Twist And Shout" - maybe it is a little manufactured, I hadn't really though of that, and the recurring guitar line can become irritating. Yes, the absolute highlights would have to be "Help" and "Yesterday", with "Ticket To Ride", "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" and "I've Just Seen A Face" up there, too. When it comes to the others, it is very hard to choose, because there is literally nothing between them, in my opinion. A song like "Another Girl" may not be amongst The Beatles more substantial, but it is just so catchy. Rubber Soul was mentioned in your video, and although it is great, and shows further maturity, the Help album strikes me as a lot more fun, and the one I tend to go for first. It is consistent almost to the degree of Revolver, in my opinion, if less groundbreaking.

14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy 13. Act Naturally 12. Tell Me What You See 11. You Like Me Too Much 10. It's Only Love 9. Another Girl 8. The Night Before 7. I Need You 6. You're Going To Lose That Girl 5. I've Just Seen A Face 4. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away 3. Ticket To Ride 2. Help! 1. Yesterday What a great album. This is imo the first Beatles album with true masterpieces, such as Yesterday. At this point Beatles's songwriting was top notch. The covers are the only weak songs from this album. A side is the best.

This one's way too tough to rank for me, as I REALLY dig every tune on it...'Ticket to Ride' would be my Number One track, though...and my Number One Beatles Track full-stop as it happens except for 'It's All Too Much' perhaps, yes...? (In fact, I know I've told you guys this story before, but what the heck...I once sang 'Ticket to Ride' with a local Beatles tribute band after they'd seen me happily singing along to every Fab tune they played in the front row of what was a very small venue in Porthmadog, North Wales...cue me desperately trying to make sure that I remembered all the lyrics while singing my own heart out...it must have worked somehow, because I distinctly remember one Scouse lady coming up to me at the end of the show and saying that I sounded better than the band...admittedly, she WAS very drunk though, yes...?!). Hwyl until next time...I await Rubber Soul with interest, yes...?

The truth is that Beatles fans always agree on the worst song on each album, I don't. My list: 14: Tell Me What You See (Lethargic and hateful, one of the worst of the Beatles) 13: Act Naturally (I hate country music, but with Ringo singing it doesn't feel too bad) 12: Another Girl (Same though Ringo doesn't sing) 11: It's Only Love (Okay, weird though) 10: You're Gonna Lose That Girl (it's fine too, though I don't understand why it has those out of tune harmonies) 9: The Night Before (I like its melody and rhythm) 8: You Like Me Too Much (It's a very nice song) 7: I Need You (It's very cute) 6: I've Just Seen A Face (It's a fast-paced song that makes everything clear) 5: Dizzy Miss Lizzy (It has a lovely beat, though I understand the hate) 4: Ticket To Ride (This song is great, at all times it remains perfectly engaging) 3: Help! (I love its melody, it's cool) 2: You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (Underrated is little for this song, it's really great) 1: Yesterday (Easy makes my top 10, few songs manage to be so thoughtful)

14. I need you - Terrible composition. Probably Harrison's worst track. Makes ear cancer. Completely dull and boring. 13. You like me too much - I expect something like that, as a LP filler from average 60's bands 12. Tell me what you see - Routine work without any particular memorability 11. Act naturally - The next "Ring-o-long"... You can never be angry... 10. Another Girl - The next Routine-track. Has its moments in the film, without visual support, rather average 09. The Night before - A rock track, that doesn't really work by Beatles standards. Not fish, not meat. 08. It's only Love - Nice Lennon-Pop-Ballad. But as we know, he can do more.. 07. Yesterday - For all its historical significance, the track is veeeeery sentimental and is perhaps a bit overrated (I value "Michelle" higher and as really brilliant). 06. I've just seen a Face - Wonderful Folk-Pop. 05. You're going to lose that girl - An absolute # 1, if that had been released as a single. 04. Dizzy Miss Lizzy - A wild banger with Lennon's fantastic rock voice. In the few live versions that are known, more powerful, than on the record. 03. You've got to hide your love away - John Lennon goes Bob Dylan and is almost better here, than Dylan himself. 02. Help - Classic with Lennon backstory. Great, and I practically never use that word, cool Gretsch guitar playing from Harrison. 01. Ticket to ride - A shade better than "Help". Influential pre-hard rock, great live track (e.g. Blackpool 1965). So I have 3 for 10 Pts., 2 for 9, 3 for 8, 2 for 6, 1 for 5, 1, for 4, 1 for 3, 1 for 1 ("I need you" is my least popular Beatles song, together with "The long and winding road" )
