We can thank director, Peter Jackson. His team developed a way to separate each individual instrument/voice as this was recorded on a 4-track. Having each aspect on separate tracks, George Martin's son, Giles was able to brighten, darken, or separate as he liked.

More like as he thought the original music had been meant to sound. He sticks to the original mono sound but gives it stereo depth that it did not get with the recording studios of the time.

I’m almost 70 . Was a big Beatles fan all my life . What is really cool is my step daughter and step son had to listen to the Beatles growing up in the house so now , step daughter especially is a huge Beatles fan . It puts a smile on my face when the next generation of kids gets excited about the Beatles. Wonderful! *** Favorite for me would be SGT Peppers. *** She really gets into the music , the youth .. How refreshing! Thank You!

What is amazing about them is the breadth of their lyrics. they wrote about everything, but also the strangest lyrics that were completely original because they were from their minds and imaginations, unlike anything else anyone wrote before or since. they were literary. poetic. they told stories, they described whole characters and moments and stories in songs. God, they were everything.

It’s a remarkable set for so many reasons ? Their ages ? The fact it was done on minimal tracks and the speed ! What is staggering is the breadth of musical styles ? Vocals are superb ❤ I think the Beatles 7 year recording period is unmatched ? Good to see you back ! You take of yourself !

Yes sir! ..can I add - first ever drum loop invented (Tmr never Knows), first acid sound invented (She Said, She Said). But back to what you said about their diversity "breadth of musical styles", that is one of the top three reasons why The Beatles are the greatest band. I know music is derivative, however if the question is asked "the greatest???", then concrete points must be established - and when you can write hard rockers for the day with (Taxman, And your bird can sing), and such progressive "art" songs pushing the norm way outside of the box with (Elenore Rigby, For No One, Love you Too) all w/o involving the guitar, throw in fun/happy/joy songs like the old Irish sea-shanty sounding (Yellow Submarine along with Good Day Sunshine) then add in a Motown classic (Got to get you into my Life) all while finishing up with probably the greatest song to influence a modern sound in (Tomorrow Never Knows), AND all song are written by the band members who all sing and play the instruments on the album - is the greatest diversity in a band which has never been matched then and still! One day I'm going to create a documentary for KZbin on The Beatles, going beyond the normal standards of docu's and prove w/o a doubt WHY they are the greatest band ever! And I just might steal this from you "what is staggering is the breadth of musical styles"...with credit of coarse! lol

Revolver is definitely one of my favorite Beatles albums, in fact it's one of my favorite from any artist. You really see how they were evolving from their earlier stuff into more complex and eclectic songs. The best bands change and grow from album to album and no one did that more than the Beatles. I remember seeing a documentary on the Grateful Dead, and some of those band members talked about how Tomorrow Never Knows really influenced them - like if the Beatles got the psychedelic vibe, then it gave the Dead the confidence to move forward. Just another example of how the Beatles influenced *everyone*, even with a deep track like that. Great reaction as always.

For the correct 'Tomorrow Never Knows' scroll down until you see a track listed as 'Tomorrow Never Knows 2022 mix'. What you heard was an early experimental take that was left on the cutting room floor so to speak. And as others have already said, the out takes in this set are very interesting, and show how The Beatles worked things out in the studio. They often "complete" a track fully, then give it a rethink and discard the work they have done and start completely over again and arrive at the version that we are familiar with. 'And Your Bird Can Sing' and 'Got To Get You Into My Life' are two examples of this, both with several different versions.

♥ so glad to see you reacting to this! Revolver is my favorite Beatles album, hands down. I can still vividly remember discovering Revolver in my mom's records and putting it on the turntable and by the time the album finished my life had literally changed. This was the album that made me want to learn how to make albums (big credit goes to engineer Geoff Emerick). I can honestly say if it wasn't for Revolver I probably would not have become the professional recording audio engineer I am today. It challenged and inspired me then and still challenges and inspires me now! I love this new deluxe edition - Giles Martin did an incredible job remixing it and it sounds AMAZING. I've heard this album a thousand times and hearing this new mix it sounds new and fresh and I'm able to hear so many new things now. And I love love LOVE the outtakes and demos (John's songwriting work tape for Yellow Submarine is just *chefs kiss*). I'm super excited to see what they do for Rubber Soul!

@@CrystalShannon4 Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to respond. It is "funny" because you mentioned your heart hurting for the pain I went through. I had that exact same way hearing you speak of your dad. We all share the common experiences of joy and happiness as well as anxiety and pain. Losing someone close to us whether in a relationship or their passing, I think is one of the most painful and traumatic. Nothing can really prepare you for it and when you are in that moment everything seems so dark and bleak. It is difficult to see or find any happiness. Not to sound "goofy", but going through certain things lately has made me realize more of why I'm here in this journey called life with everyone else. And it might be just to share some joy and kindness amid the pain. I don't know if that was "goofy", intellectual, or metaphysical. Probably "goofy".. 😉 By the way, I haven't looked enough at your channel to see if you have reacted to Pearl Jam yet, but that is another of my favorite bands (as the list grows ) Anyway, if you ever have a moment please check out their song Black. I would definitely suggest watching the MTV Unplugged version. It would be a great reaction, but more importantly, I just hope you hear/see it. Nice to see ya! You know, I read something recently, about how in the U.S., the album that was considered the Beatles' best album was Sgt. Pepper, while in the U.K., it was Revolver. U.S. opinion started to change after the Beatles catalogue was released on CD in the late 80s/early 90s, which used the same track list as the original U.K. releases. Had we gotten the "correct" version of Revolver in 1966, things would have been different. It is their best album, overall.

If you get a chance to watch the whole of "The Beatles Anthology" documentary series they made in 1995, you have to see the section talking about creating "Revolver". It included this scene of the surviving Beatles and George Martin at a mixing board while running a playback of Take 1, which is hilarious. They all state that opening part sounds like it was performed underwater, and George Harrison says the backing drum rhythm sounds like a rhumba!

😎👍 Paul was pretty obsessed with descending major scale bass lines. Besides "For No One," there were the verses of "Penny Lane," the chorus of "Hello Goodbye," the bridge of "Lady Madonna" and just about all of "Mamunia." The two true predecessors to "Piano Man" however, were the Moody Blues' 1965 hit "Go Now" (which you'll even find on Paul's 1976 album "Wings Over America") and "Mr. Bojangles" (recorded by numerous different people). Not only do they revolve around descending major scales, but like the Billy Joel tune, they're both waltzes.

if you ever visit the UK, take a trip to Liverpool. You can visit all the places where they grew up. You can see John and Pauls childhood homes, look out of the bedroom window they looked out of every morning. You see Strawberry Fields, and all the places that made them who they were, the vibe, the areas, the landmarks, the places that formed them. Its quite emotional if you're a Beatles fan

Wow, it's been a year! You know, it actually seems LONGER! I feel like it's been TWO years! FIVE years! So many albums! So many changes! We (YOU) packed A LOT in a year!!!! I love hearing the outtakes on this, even though some of them are very rough! It was always assumed that Paul wrote "Yellow Submarine", not knowing that the verse seems to have originated with John! Paul said he was falling asleep and the CHORUS for "Yellow Submarine" popped into his head; I wonder if he was playing around with John's unfinished verse in his head and that led him into the chorus. Very cool. Love hearing that it's one of the string players who makes the final decision to play "Eleanor Rigby" WITHOUT vibrato. It was obviously George Martin's idea to give Paul a choice......but it turns out he couldn't tell the difference! And it's one of the session players who chimes in and says it's better without vibrato (quite rightly!). Those are two of my favorite moments. I'm not a big fan of the remix.....they removed the warm amp hum from the beginning of "Taxman", right off that is sacrilege! That amp hum puts the listener right in the room with the band, a "getting-to-work" feeling. I'm not big on remixing classic stuff, the mixes are performances unto themselves, and when you start messing with the blend and the panning, even just a little bit, you can throw off the whole thing and that's what happens in most cases (imo). I'm sure you know, just from recording, how just panning something ever so slightly, or just tweaking the EQ ever so slightly can suddenly make a mix totally pop. PS: Love the packaging on this!!!

Crystal, another great analysis! I was hoping you'd do this one! This and Abbey Road are tied for my favorite album of all time. This mix offers something both new and old. New in the sense that today's technology allows a presence that makes it sound like it was recorded yesterday, a whole new listening experience that breathes new life into the songs. Old in the sense that it reminds me of the many hours, days, months, and years I spent playing the original vinyl album. Something had been lost in the previous CD mixes, the warmth and breathability that this version brings back for me.

Crystal, I was so excited in my last post I forgot to add this. Maybe you could do a separate reaction not only including the original version of Tomorrow Never Knows remixed, but also the remixes of the singles Paperback Writer and Rain. Also, the outtakes on this deluxe version are a revelation. The acoustic version of Love You To, the original version of Rain before the slowing down of it, and The Byrds style version of And Your Bird Can Sing definitely deserves a break down of them. BTW you should definitely do a dive into the Byrds first 5 albums. Their musical growth and change of style is revelatory like the Fabs. The Notorious Byrd Brothers album is the literal blueprint for current Radiohead!

Happy November, Crystal!! Oooh, I am so jealous! Saw this in the store, haven't picked it up (yet!). Great review! "Revolver" is my favorite Beatles album, and in fact, I would credit it for opening the door to me to popular music in general. When I was about 4 years old (this was back in the 1970s), my aunts from the Philippines visited us and brought over as one of their gifts this album (it was an orange-colored vinyl LP). I was transfixed with the music, played the album to death, and scratched up the record fairly quickly...too bad, if I had kept it in excellent condition, maybe I would be retired by now haha. Very Cool, isn't it? I've been listening to this all week... and the verdict is WOW! This is a benchmark release because, thanks to new tech, they can remaster these recordings that were, until now, were set in stone. I can't wait to hear what they do with the rest of the catalog... at the risk of repeating myself ... WOW! I understand the urge for more Beatles... Well, there's so much more to thrill to than just the stereo mix of the album. There's the mono mix (a completely different animal!), the stereo AND mono mixes of Paperback Writer and Rain... and then there are the demos and outtakes. Not to mention the other Super Deluxe editions (Sgt Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be.), Let It Be... Naked, The 2 BBC albums, the rest of the Anthology sets and, a wonderful release from earlier this year, Get Back~The Rooftop Concert!! Aside from all of these, if I recall, you'd skipped the versions of Let It Be and Get Back from Past Masters. I guess you must've thought that they were the the same as the album versions... They're not. So, you see, there's plenty of goodies to keep you occupied for quite a while. Cheers!

@@CrystalShannon4 This album never had a good stereo mix because stereo was something new in 1966. That's why on songs like Taxman and some others in the original stereo mix the drums and bass are in the left channel and not in the center as it should be. For that reason I always preferred to hear the mono mix of Revolver more than the stereo. But now this new remix really does justice to this masterpiece. Everything is now more balanced, clear and many details that were buried in the original stereo mix are heard. Hi Crystal. I was just thinking about you and that you once said that you heard every Beatles song. Just checking: have you heard their Rarities album? On it there's a lot of interesting alternate takes and such. I remember that on it there's a version of, Help! with Paul as the lead singer. It's, as far as I know, only available on vinyl. Have a good day!

Fantastic reaction to a wonderful remix of a wonderful album; however, I've NO IDEA what your media player/streamer was doing playing that version of "Tomorrow Never Knows"....! What you played out was the "Take 1" mix from the first Sessions disc..!! 😆 The real version on the actual stereo remix is version you know, but in a new and clearer remix - as with all the other songs you played. 😉 It's a great remix, and I've been waiting over 50 years to hear a proper stereo mix of this album; it puts the punch and power of the original mono LP back into the stereo that was never there before... 😉 The 'new' mono version is actually well worth listening to as well.... it's so clean and clear - better than any of my original UK 60s pressings, and the 2014 mono release; it almost has a 3D sound to it if you can listen between the two speakers...it's uncanny!! 👍

Crystal, you know Sir Paul McCartney wrote a book where he talks about his life through his songs and lyrics? Its the most beautiful book you can imagine. If you don't have it, treat yourself, or drop a hint to your loved ones that it would make the most magical Christmas present for you :) xXx

When you talked about mood change, I thought George Martin directing harmonies like that, but also those inter mood changes are intricle in keeping the Beatles fresh every bar... Even for 50 yesrs 🤓👍

Giles has done a great job, it's only after hearing the new mix I realised so many of the shortcomings in the remastered one. I always quite liked the naive, hard stereo panning of those early albums, but definitely from 'Rubber soul' onwards they all would really benefit from being fully remixed, and now the technology is finally here to do them justice. Everything stands out, but for me I have a new found appreciation for Ringo's contributions to the band, Giles has brought out subtleties that were pretty well lost in previous releases., Ringo's drums were lost to various degrees in all the original overdubbing process, now he is centre stage (literally) and the bass and drums are driving from where they should always have been. The new technology rewrites what can be achieved from these old 4 tracks. Purists may dislike it, and feel Giles dad's work is the definitive versions, but as Giles likely approached this project, this is how George Martin would have wanted it to sound if he'd had the choice.

Crystal, I think you're at the point with the Beatles catalogue where you're ready for it: the Giles + George Martin-produced Love album. It's such a treat. Do give it a listen.

What a wonderful birthday treat to hear you react to my favorite Beatles album! (Or maybe second favorite, I always go back and forth with this and Abbey Road hehe) It may have been pointed out to you in other comments, but the Tomorrow Never Knows you listened to at the end was one of the outtakes that were added as a bonus (the actual one is still on the album too). If you feel like you don't want to end putting out Beatles content, I would highly recommend a listen to all of the outtakes. They give a fascinating insight into the origins of all of the songs on the album. I don't know if you watched the Get Back documentary, but it is so clear that the Beatles had so much fun working together and making music, so it is a joy to listen to/witness their creative process, especially with songs I've known so well my whole life. ALSO since you reacted to Taylor Swift's new album, are you possibly adding modern albums into the rotation? If so, I couldn't possibly recommend Ashlyn by Ashe more highly. It feels like modern pop with heavy influence from older music as well. I think you'd absolutely adore it. She also just released a second album, Rae as well, which was also phenomenal. You've reacted to 6.5 of my top 10 albums so far, so I might have to recommend them until you get them all (the others being Ashlyn, Graceland by Paul Simon, Melodrama by Lorde, and the other half of Tommy). I hope you have an amazing rest of your day, sending love!

Good to see you on KZbin again. You are now a full fledged Beatles Fan if you have no favorites. 😁 At least it was George Martin's son [original producer]'s son Giles, who did this work with loving ears and hands, and not some hack halfwit.
