Thanks! I research the chords in a few different ways. Mostly just listening and figuring stuff out, but also watching live performances and I've bought lots of good sheet music over the years.

+leigh richardson Practice is what makes it easier. Try simple stuff first, just a basic acoustic guitar track from a song. You need to identify the root notes of the chords, and often a good way to do that is to listen to the bass guitar for help (raising the song's pitch by an octave helps the bass stand out). If you can identify what key you're in (which chord sounds like "home"?) then you have a big head start.
