"The Ballad of John and Yoko" chronicles the events surrounding their wedding, including their "Bed-In" at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel in protest of the Vietnam War: "The news people said, 'Say what you doing in bed?' I said, 'We're only trying to get us some peace'" They used their fame to draw attention to the major issues of the day.

Yeah, the "Bed-Ins" for peace. The "fifty acorns tied in a sack" references them sending acorns to world leaders, asking them the plant them as a gesture for world peace. The video also has them being interviewed inside a bag. This was to promote judging people for who they are and not what they looked like.

Paul was incredible on this track. Bass, drums, and harmonies. Paul knew his best friend was hurting and he wanted to help him despite his obvious reservations about the lyrics. This kinda talk got the Beatles in a lot of trouble before remember?

I remember being taken to the mall by my family, and I had a few bucks from babysitting, so I headed for the record store. I wanted “Let It Be,” which was in the top five on the Billboard charts. They were sold out. So I took the list (back in those days, they’d print out the Billboard Top 100 singles for the week and have them available so you could look up what song you were looking for), and I found The Ballad of John and Yoko, so I bought it. It was the Beatles, and the title sounded cool, so 🤷🏼‍♀️ This is why I still know every word to this song, 50 years later.

Late in The Beatles’ career, John would write a song and think he had to record it IMMEDIATELY, so he’d call the other Beatles and tell whoever answered to meet him at the studio. On this day only Paul McCartney answered, so John played piano and guitar and Paul played bass and drums and sang backup. “The way things are going, they’re gonna crucify me.” Maybe John knew he didn’t have a lot of time left.

The accompanying video is deceiving, George and Ringo did not play on this song, and they were not happy about it. John and Paul got together and wrote the song in the morning (together, like the old days) and were so excited about it, went into the studio and recorded it just by themselves, playing all of the instruments and doing all of the vocals.

John's original statement was not made to bring even more love for the beetles in statements he made after it he said he was trying to show people how easy a celebrity can become a diety to there followers just because people loved there music and followed them dressed like them the same as actors and other talented individuals and John was more making a mockery of how easy the younger generation was looking for something to worship other than what they grew up with from there parents if this makes any sense to anyone.
