"Till There Was You" is a song written by Meredith Willson for his 1957 musical play The Music Man, and which also appeared in the 1962 movie version. The song is sung by librarian Marian Paroo (Barbara Cook on Broadway, Shirley Jones in the film) to Professor Harold Hill (portrayed by Robert Preston) toward the end of Act Two. It became a hit for Anita Bryant in 1959, reaching #30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and spending two weeks at #14 on Cash Box. "Till There Was You" was later covered by the English rock band the Beatles in 1963.

Andreas Patsalides very true. Especially noticeable when you listen to the studio version with some nice high-end headphones. They were barely out of their teens when they recorded this and they sound like top tier musicians. So much talent and creativity.

Jack Minor ..this is an intricate song..i play this song on my bass and guitar and its actually hard to play the georges lead....johns rhythm and pauls bass is easy compared to the notes george plays. What really amazes me is paul can sing and play bass flawlessy...that alone is extremely hard to do....thats talent since i cant do both at the same time.

Besides Paul's great singing, has anyone else realized what an incredible job George does with the fills, licks and fantastic jazz infused solo? My gosh, what was that spot on jazz chord does George play at the end of his solo? I'm wondering if anyone could please tell me because I've learned some of it on my Ukulele. Nonetheless, this is an example of a perfectly executed song played live without any effects whatsoever.

it's 24x355 (you bar the 2nd fret, F#, and third string from top is muted). It's a bit of a complicated shape, as you can see in the video itself, you have to press on 55 with your pinky, but still doable. You're welcome. P.S. yes, this is such fantastic and inventive guitar work, it always amazes me how George, being just 20, was such a master of the guitar.

Is it true?? Are there really 4 self-proclaimed idiots who gave this a thumbs down..?? I think this version of this song is a testament of how versatile and musicaly advanced the Beatles were at that time. Barely in their 20's they were able to play at such a high level .. no wonder they are considdered as the first band who's influence can be heard from then untill today. Listen to the bass-playing of Paul and at the same time singing...genius..as well as George his guitar-saolo..and John playing steady rythm chords while Ringo is keeping time. Just a well ballanced performance..
