I was last there in 2001 and they'd had to put an old 101 units back on service (late due to engine trouble as well), as I understand it, because the new units squealed all the way up. The 101 units, of course, having the fish-bowl front windows gave a perfect view of the entire line. It was fantastic.

That would’ve brought back memories for me. They should get them back on there as a heritage train set!👍

Thanks Tim. One of those lines that seems to get better the more times I use it. I must stop off at Betws-Y-Coed next time and try the miniature railway 👍

Excellent video as always Mark. I've travelled the Conwy Valley on a few occasions while completing the Ffestiniog Round Robin from Telford. That's an excellent day out, around 10+ Hours, just over £40 including single trip on the Ffestiniog
@LetsMakeaTrip2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew, yep I’m not sure how many know about the Ffestiniog Round Robin. I had a great day on it a few years back and the guard on the Ffestiniog Railway said he very rarely saw the tickets for it. Totally agree, it’s a good value day out with plenty of track miles for your money.

Thanks for this video Mark. Appreciate you giving an insight into what this line is like. I've never done it and it's on my list of things to do/places to go. I could easily spend a few days exploring different parts of that line. Thanks once again, hope you're keeping well and look forward to more videos from you. Cheers.
@LetsMakeaTrip2 жыл бұрын
Cheers John, yep only regret from doing this was not to stop off at more places en route. Betws-Y-Coed in-particular and the miniature railway would’ve been worth a look. Also Conwy, although not on the line itself, you can get off at Llandudno Junction and walk across the bridge 👍

Hi Simon, cheers mate. If you look in the description the music is normally in there as it’s off the KZbin audio library. This one is ‘Fractal of Light’ by Chris Haughan 👍

Noswaith dda Mark. A lovely looking line with beautiful stations. Have to go there one day! I thought the benches on the disused platforms at Llandudno were a bit weird though. Cheers for now :-)
@LetsMakeaTrip2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Daz. Yeh Llandudno has changed a lot over the last few decades. I never really went there when I was younger tbh but I think a lot of the Welsh coast stations used to be grander than they are now (Barmouth and it’s super-long platforms for example).

Hi Mark I stumbled upon your channel through KZbin recommendations after watching Scotts plains trains everything. I love these type of videos they are so much better when they are narrated like you and Scott do. They are very enjoyable and informative and they take a bit of stress out of traveling abroad knowing you have a good idea what to expect thanks to you. I also have a quick question which UK train ticket website would you recommend is there like a train version of Skyscanner where you can view the whole month of ticket prices and choose the cheapest day because I'm never fussy about the exact day. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you for your time and well done for a very watchable channel. Cheers.
@LetsMakeaTrip2 жыл бұрын
Hi Arthur, well many thanks for the kind words - appreciated. I normally use TrainPal for tickets as you get a few quid off here and there using their promo vouchers. They tend to be reasonably good with their split tickets aswell (though I have found cheaper doing it myself). Apart from that, I don’t profess to know too much about it tbh and I’m not aware of a ‘train scanner’ type app (though it would be a great idea). I think the complexities of the UK train ticketing system would render it quite difficult. Whatever you do, don’t use a website/app that charges booking fees (like Trainline). Good luck! 😊

Wow an early Mark surprise on a Friday 😊 Another line in the UK that I've not done... Yet, but I did nearly die in a kayak in Betws-Y-Coed on a stag weekend... But that's another story! 🇪🇦🏴

@LetsMakeaTrip2 жыл бұрын
Haha, well spotted Jimmy! Yes I liken this line to some of the branch lines I did in Cornwall last year. Great to explore and my only regret with his was I didn’t give myself time to stop off at some of the lovely looking stations along the way. Holiday nearly over now mate unfortunately 😐

Next time you visit Blaenau Ffestiniog take the narrow gauge trains down to the other coast or that I like better the other way up to Blaenau Ffestiniog, something to write home about.
@LetsMakeaTrip Жыл бұрын
I’ve done it a few times. Agree the journey from Porthmadog to Blaenau is the best one and if you can get a seat in the observation car at the back, even better 👍
I wish TPW ran loco hauled trains up and down these scenic lines to get extra revenue as it could be a good cheaper alternative to rail tours as they can be quite expensive.
@LetsMakeaTrip2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, I think the Cambrian Coast line had to stop the excursions because of the signalling they now use (that may have changed so happy to be proved wrong if there’s any up-to-date info on that). Not sure about the Conwy Valley line. Never heard of any loco-hauled services but agree, if possible, it’s a great idea.👍
