I instruct at Camarillo and I love showing people Santa Paula! It's just all about the love and fun of flying! Also a very good spot to teach new pilots about uncontrolled airports with short runways and abnormal procedures.
@Bill4LE4 жыл бұрын
Ya it's super abnormal but so fun! It's definitely a place to go if you love aviation!

This was so much fun to watch! I grew up at KSZP and learned how to fly there. We who know it well are completely spoiled by the constant "airshows" that happen there, and consider it just an everyday thing. On behalf of all the KSZP locals, we love that you love it! What's not to love, right?

i wanted to make sure correct before i commented. most of my Dads freinds that flew out of Santa Paulo are now my Dads age 85, i cannot say for certain that they might have been slight legends in 1972. you may know? Michael Kurilla T34, Mira Slovak ( mr. mennen P39 reno air races and Mira Slovak messerchmidt. Mira & Bill congratylated by president Eizenhower for hi-jacking plane ( both pilots for an air tranport in communist controlled / invasion of Poland ) at time i was only 11. uncle Mikes son Eric michael Kurilla runs Fort Brag n a 3 or 4 star general. im just remeniscing. thank you for nice video.. may skies prevail, i missed Oshkosh thus year

I have flown in and around Santa Paula many, many times. It is a hard airport to work with but it makes you better for having had the experience. Other runways all seem luxurious after Santa Paula!

My flight instructor, CFII, Donnie Lucy is out of SZP. Solo'd at OXR, shortly after, WHP, then SZP to meet and pickup instructor for more lessons. The good price of 100LL fuel is part of what drives the traffic at SZP, the other aspect is the quality of food /breakfast at The Flight 126 Cafe, on the airport. Always worth the flight, always worth the wait. Saticoy Bridge, The Junkyard, and the Golf Course are the major markers, coming in from the West. Lot's of biplanes, Stearman's, Pitts, EZ 300's, Harmon Rockets, you name it, on down to ultralites, gyrocopters, lots of experimentals, too. "Runway 22 with a left departure, to the east" is a pretty common expression heard from pilots at Santa Paula, as well as "22 straight out". Very nice video, you captured the raw action that goes on at Santa Paula on a nice weather weekend.

Best video of your series. Loved the foothills approach to Santa Paula and the impromptu air show was great. Departing was like merging onto an LA Freeway, find your opening and goooo...good stuff

getting my ppl out of camarillo. my instructor says the old head santa paula pilots use first notch of flaps to kick them over the power lines on final.
